Rating: Summary: Praise for Masterharper of Pern Review: "Anne McCaffrey adds another absorbing chapter to dragon lore in her new hardcover novel, Masterharper of Pern." -Romantic Times Magazine
Rating: Summary: Praise for Masterharper of Pern Review: "With The Masterharper of Pern, Anne McCaffrey suceeds again in depicting the serenity and beauty of dragons in their symbotic relationship with humanity on a world called Pern." -Bookpage
Rating: Summary: Biography of Masterharper Robinton Review: McCaffery's recent works on Pern have been average -good in quality. They are good stories, but they aren't COMPLETELY riveting. This book breaks that trend. You will NOT want to put it down once you pick it up. The "story" of Masterharper Robinton has been a subject a lot of readers have been asking about. In this book, you get it, from his talented youth with his Master parents (a master singer and a master composer) to his marriage, and up through his installment as Masterharper. This provides an excellent chronological prelude to Dragonflight.
Rating: Summary: It was very good, one of her best Pern books Review: I read it all in one setting, it was that good. I loved the in-depth, realistic characters, and saw an interesting cross-section of life on Pern. I also liked seeing some of the scenes from other books from Robinton's perspective.
Rating: Summary: Just a decent biographry of Robinton Review: The readers asked for it...that's why Anne McCaffrey wrote it, so she claims. I read it, hoping that she could make a good story about his youth. It is vaguely interesting but basically it was a dressed up from the background biographical material to the Pern books that Anne probably wrote decades ago. There was nothing exciting about Masterharper. No great adventure, new discovery or exciting action. We find out what formed Robinton's character and skills in his childhood and early youth. We also find out how he first met all the older personalities in the Dragonriders of Pern and trilogy established friendly or otherwise relationships with them. The best part of the book was the very end where it neatly lands us from a diffrent perspective at the beginning of Dragonflight: Ruatha, when Lessa is rescued by the dragonriders and Jaxom is born.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written book! Review: I really liked this book! Anne McCaffrey outdid herself on this one, I think. Finally! a book about Robinton! And I loved the way that it peiced together things from the other books in the series! And she used my screen name in the book. That's neat too.
Rating: Summary: Required reading for Dragonrider fans (of course) Review: Any lover of the Pern novels probably has a fondness for the character of Robinton, having been an important character through most of the books. Pern addicts will enjoy the explanations of events and the tale of this characters childhood and rise to power. Without this love, however, the book is little more than average. It does have Anne's characteristicly lovable characters and her magical way of describing them without ever doing so. Die hard Pernests will love it, while dilitante fans may not.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: I was so very happy to get another Pern book, thoes of us who wait with baited breath for Anne's books are. I was also distruberd with Cameo's Parentage. This book did fill in alot of the missing information in previous books. Can we get some more books about Avias or The White Dragon?
Rating: Summary: A wonderfull telling of the life of a favorite character Review: This is a must read for any fan of the Pern books. It can be read by someone who is unfamiliar with Pern, but it is best enjoyed by someone who has at least read Dragonflight and the 3 Harperhall novels. These three stories introduced Robinton, the MasterHarper of Pern and this novel tells about his parents, his growing up and how he became the Masterharper. It also reveals details of events told as history in Dragonflight and allows us to meet as childern some of the main characters from that book. This tale reveals Ms. McCaffery's love of this character she created. This is one of her strongest Pern books.
Rating: Summary: Masterharper is quintessential Pern Review: Like some of the other reviewers, I had been a bit disappointed in some of the more recent Pern novels, but this one is vintage Pern. Immediately upon finishing Masterharper I fished out Dragonflight and I'm prepared to read through the entire Pern collection just because I realize how much I enjoy the people and their lives. Thank you, Anne, for a return visit to the characters we love the most. Cathy D.
