Rating: Summary: The Sword - An Exciting Adventure Review: Upon starting this book, I didn't know if it would be good or not, because I hadn't heard anything about it. Within the first five pages, Chester's incredible writing drew me into the characters. I loved the way that Tobesijian was a regal king, and yet he was a loving father and husband too. I loved how the children acted like real children do. I also enjoyed how the emotions were portrayed with realism. Tobesijian was so valiant that he gave everything that he had to save his kingdom and his family;despite the odds. It had unexpected twists with the death of main characters that put more realism into it. Faldain was also created beautifully as a young boy who acts his age, and yet has matured a lot because of what he has had to go through. He is someone that young kids can look up to and relate to also. He goes through a lot of the struggles of a boy his age, and still has something special about him, the uniqueness that we all yearn for. It's a novel where you can become the person that you have always dreamed of being; someone ordinary who can do extra ordinary things. What better reason for reading is there than to go places you haven't been and be people you couldn't be in reality.
Rating: Summary: A Pleasant Surprise! Review: I was on my way out to vacation when I picked this book up at the counter of a grocery store en route to purchasing some last minute supplies. I had never heard of the author but the selection at a grocery store is limited so I made my choice. I was gratefully surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I rarely give the first of an untried series above a "3 stars" so don't let the ranking fool you. When I returned home from vacation, I went straight to Amazon.com to see when the release of the second book of the trilogy was. The character development is good and you find yourself interested in what befalls them after every page.
Rating: Summary: Um . . . Review: No offense to those of you out there that enjoyed this book. And no offense to you, Ms. Chester, if you happen to come across this review. However, I feel I must voice my opinions. For me, this book moved along way too slowly. I was hoping and expecting for a lot of excitement, enchantment, danger, magic, and maybe even a bit of romance. Instead, I didn't get any of that. Well, not completely. But it was a very meager amount. Also, I got too many descriptions. A few parts that described the history of some place or another took FOREVER. I know, I know. A good author has to let the reader know where he/she is reading about. But you don't have to BORE the reader. And so, I am just saying, that if any of you out there like action-packed science fiction, I don't recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Must reader for fantasy lovers! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book, and would have given it 4 stars except for the ending. I won't ruin it for anyone by saying anything more than I thought the ending was great. Chester has a wonderful, descriptive style, and her characters are vivid and complex. I had to laugh when the only negative review compared this book to a romance novel. This is a rich story, full of depth, and I'm looking forward to the next two books of the trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful Review: It has been a long time since I've read anything this engaging. It reads like pure poetry. "Gold wire was wrapped around the two-handed hilt and a row of fiery emeralds studded the straight edge of the guard. Glittering and gleaming, Truthseeker lay on the floor in humility, but even the cloth could not mask it's greatness." It's passages like that which will hook you. This book is full of them! Yes, the main characters aren't focused upon until page 111, but the beginning is necessary to the rest of the book. I do wish that there had been more than 30 pages devoted to Alexeika, but it did leave me wondering more about her, and how she and Dain become involved together in this adventure. I cannot wait until book two comes out.
Rating: Summary: Attention Getter! Review: For a first time reader of Mrs. Chester, her book The Sword, grabbed my imagination with the life like emotions and problems of her characters. Magic, mystery, along with life and death situations leave you hanging on the edge of your couch (or where ever your favorite curl-up spot is) at the end of the book and wishing you had the next to find out how good vanquishs evil. I recomend this book to all fantasy fiction readers alike.
Rating: Summary: The Sword Review: I enjoyed the book alot but when I finished I was left with questions. I would recommend this book to any who like suspense and to those who do not want it all in one book. I am looking forward to reading The Ring when it comes out.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Excellent! Review: I guess I've read about a thousand fantasy books in my life but very few have I truly been unable to put down. I enjoyed SWORD more than most of the books I've read in a very long time! I can't wait for the next segment.
Rating: Summary: Great Start ! Review: The only thing disapppointing is that there are only two sequels..However I cant wait to get my hands on them !
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: This book is excellent. It has all the twists and turns of Deborah Chester's Alien Chronicles, but it has completely different ideas forming the context throughout the story. It keeps you in suspense, not like a horror novel,it's just one of those books you can't put down. The characters sound as if they are real people and not robots like in some books that I have read. My one real complaint is that I have to wait for the other two books to come out.
