Summary: A fitting conclusion and farewell to Midkemia
Review: This was one of those books that I wanted to keep putting down. Not because it wasn't very good, but because the more I read, the closer I was to finishing it! Unlike other multi-series novels (the names of which I won't go into!) "Shards of a Broken Crown" neatly tied together all the previous novels characters and plotlines in a neat and tidy package. Definitly a 10! I hope Ray Feist will bring us some more tales from Midkemia, if not, it was a great ride! The highest praise I can give this book is that 6 months from now i'll start with "Magician:Apprentice" and re-read them all again!

Summary: Good book but too many characters to tie up loose ends...
Review: hOverall a good book but in some ways Too many characters in the book. I can not wait to find out what the shadow council will do....

Summary: 3rd book should have been the end.
Review: I first read Magician when I was in 4rth grade. It was the book that really turned me on to the fantasy genre and in the eleven years since then I've read the riftwar saga straight through ten or fifteen times. Alright, I'm a nut with little to no life, but I really like Feist's work.

I was, however, disappointed with Shards of a Broken Crown. I bought it last night and read it straight through in one sitting, so maybe my impressions haven't fully matured yet, but I have to say I thought the work wasn't up to his usual standards.

This book seemed to me to be a filler book that simply tied up a bunch of loose ends from the previous three books in the Serpant War saga. There seemed to be little in the way of character development in this book - with the exception of Dash. The rest of the characters are very static and fit into the molds they've been placed in during previous novels. The characters who are introduced in this book are frankly rather boring. Dash's love interest is an interesting character, but we never really get to know her. The Prince of Krondor is another flat character that could have been interesting. He just sits in the standard jerk mode.

Even Thomas and Pug - the old standby characters that everybody loves - don't do many lively things. Admittedly, Pug's anger at the end is interesting, but on the whole we learn nothing new about either character.

After character development my next complaint is with the way the plot is delivered. Eric's fight scenes, so well done in Rage of a Demon King, are fairly boring and usually cut short.

And the whole Nalar thing seemed thrown in at the last minute. We get to see the General planning his spring conquest in the prologue, but we never hear from him again until - whoops - his whole kingdom has degenerated into a virgin sacrificing cult. Some time spent developping this plot line would have helped. I certainly wasn't surprised when it happened.

In all, I think that this book was the worst in the series. However, in comparison with what some other authors come up with it is still a very good book. I'd like to see another book come out with the next generation of Midkemia heros - with some original ideas. Another great setting, in my opinion, would be based in the Hall of Worlds.

Summary: Review of Shards of a Broken Crown
Review: This is by far one of the best Feist books to date. Unlike most authors he is not afraid to kill off an important chacter. This important because in war people have to die. The battle scens in this book are out standing. Feist lets one of his best qualities shine, his ability to show war strategy and still be life like. Fans of the series will not be disapointed in this novel of epic proportions at all. One last word. If you are affraid to read this book because you think it will be a simple rebuilding story you are wrong. Almost every question to date is answered. Execpt who Nakor REALY is.

Summary: Excellent Story. Well rounded!
Review: Love the story. Glad Feist left if open for more books. I can already guess what that series will be called (XXXXXXXWAR). Just read the book and enjoy the series. I am now re-reading the series and will get to Shards again in 2 days. :) Saw a review somewhere that led me to believe that it wouldn't be as well rounded. It was a lie. Good story. Everyone you know and love will be here to advance the storyline. Now the wait begins :( Waaah!

Summary: OK, but was a big "string-tier"
Review: I thought that the book was good but that the overall story suffered in that there were too many characters to keep track of. There was a lot of pages spent just tying up loose ends of all the characters that were used throughout the series. I think the story would've improved greatly had the sub-plot involving Kesh been dropped and those pages devoted to more details about the war against Fadawah and the "evil" behind it.

Summary: Best of the Midkemia/Serpent War Saga
Review: Like a lot of "Final" books in a series. There are so many loose ends to bring to conclusion; however Mr Feist does an extremely good of doing this. Without getting boring. This a book that will be read straight thru, as the action seldom falters from cover to cover. It does however, leave openings for further books which gives us Midkemia fans hope for a new saga.

Summary: Again, we want MORE
Review: Just finished it. Loved it, but now I want to know what happens next to Dash, not to mention Jimmy. It would also be nice to know about... well we will just have to wait.

Summary: What more can one say?
Review: Well, the fans of this genre are in agreement: Feist is a great author! He has a talent to weave a story, and once involved, it is hard to leave it. I'm sure this book will continue the traditon of the prior ones, and hopeflly surpass them both. I beleive he can continue this great storyline for a long time.

Summary: Praise for an outstanding author and his work
Review: Like most everyone who has commented on this author of magnificent fantasy sagas, I am in total agreement. His books are well written and totally engrossing. He started me off in the world of fanatasy novels. The only thing I have a complaint about is the wait for each novel to come out. It always seems like an eternity to wait for his next book, especially when you really want to know what happens next and find out that you have to wait another year or so. It's worth the wait though. I would recommend his work to everyone who has an interest in fantasy or not. I am also in agreement with what one person commented early...I wonder what his next work will be about...hmmmmm
