Rating: Summary: Greg Keyes should stay away from SW Review: In a few words heres how good the book as:IT WAS THE WORST BOOK IN THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE.NOw the little kids who read this book may htink its good, but what about us adults?I mean, that wouldve fit in better with the Junior Jedi knights. The Young JEdi Knights had mroe maturity in it.this book was a pile of bull.the NJO was geared towards adults. Not the little kids who think STar Wars is cool.THey think a little kid book is the best one there is.CMON PEOPLE BRING BACK ZHAN,TYERS,ANDERSON.They molded ths SW universe into what it was before this book came out.Now theyre gonna have a heck of a job cleaning it up.NOw,a bunch of kids read this,,they start reading the rest of the series, and write the reviews about how bad a book is.I praise everyone whos spoken out against this book.I dont apreciate newcomes like greg to come in and write for the Core SW series at the ending point.Zhan and the others don't have time to clean up the guys mess. They need to work on developing the storyline, not fixing it.And this guy is one of the slowest writers ive seen......I'm gonna get the next book by him,but only beause i own every other starwars book besides it.NOt as good as one of my friend who has all the books that are out SIGNED by the authors.....When he went to go get Edge signed,he was reluctent to go,he only went because he wanted the whole collecion.I mean common,Greg is treating the Mature SW fans like the kids this book is geared for.NJO was never ment to be a kid thing, but Greg decided he would make it one.The kids will read this book, thing its cool, then start reading the others, write reviews that the other books are all bad, throw the SW universe out of order.and ruin the whole thing.
Rating: Summary: Poor excuse for a NJO book... Review: Having seen thee original movies in my early teens and read ALL the books, Junior Jedi, Jedi Apprentice, Dark Horse Series and all the books inbetween...this should be placed in the kiddie Junior Jedi series. This is another Junior Jedi, Anakin and Tahiri Adventure and just about as short. The beginning of new info on the Vong is somewhat interesting but going down a different path than the original "awesome and invincible terror" of the universe. I do not look forward to Keyes book II. His writing belongs with the junior jedi books. If you are reading the NJO series I highly recommend SKIPPING this one. You won't miss out on much.
Rating: Summary: Well, it ain't Zahn Review: I never read the Junior Jedi Knights series, so I was unfamiliar with a few of the characters introduced. This wasn't really a BIG problem though, I figured out character relationships pretty quick. This book wasn't particularly exciting, unless you really like Anakin Solo. One of it's strong points is the new insights into the Vong culture. I really wish these authors would spend more time on Jaina though. And actually do a decent job of writing her character. And I'm really irritated that a cool character like Jagged Fel was introduced earlier in the series, then completely ignored in the later books. Same with that squadron of Chiss pilots. C'mon people, let's get these books flowing smoothly together! And for the Force's sake would SOMEBODY learn how to write Mara Jade!? Well, if you are reading the NJO series you have to read this book because you can't really skip one in the series. But if you REALLY feel like skipping it, here's the plot in a nutshell: People turning Jedi over to Vong. Jedi children too. Bad. Anakin helps to save them. His little girlfriend is captured. Brainwashed by Vong. Anakin saves her. Yay. There ya go! Read the book only if you want all the boring little details or if you were really hooked on Junior Jedi Knights
Rating: Summary: A more revealing look at the Yuuzhan Vong and Anakin Solo Review: Perhaps the most insightful and developmental books of the New Jedi Order series, Edge of Victory keeps its focus entirely on Yavin Four, the Shaper caste of the Yuuzhan Vong, as well as Anakin Solo and Tahiri. As Warmaster Tsavong Lah's demand of all the Jedi--young and old, human and alien--settles upon the worlds of the Republic, the Peace Brigade, the galaxy's biggest collaborators, have settled in wait in the Yavin system in a search for the Jedi praxeum. Acting against orders, Anakin Solo takes his X-wing to Yavin to rescue his friend Tahiri after he experiences a vision of her on Coruscant. After a few chapters, the Yuuzhan Vong transform the jungle moon of Yavin Four into their own bio-organic image, complete with Shaper compounds. Here we have an important introduction of not only a group of characters heretofor unknown, but also the first seeds of dissent in the minds of the Yuuzhan Vong. The Shamed Ones seek retribution, and one encounters Anakin, eventually allying himself with the Jedi, whom he sees as a chance for redemption. Mezhan Kwaad, a Master Shaper, snares Tahiri, seeking to transform her into a Dark side-wielding Yuuzhan Vong warrior to which she will present to Overlord Shimmra. Her plan almost succeeds, but in the end Anakin prevails, professes a love for Tahiri (at a young age, but this is fiction) and together they blast out of the Shaper compound for freedom. An important book in the series, Edge of Victory shows us the shapers, the maturing of Anakin in both his Force abilities and own personal tragedies, and introduces heresy into the mix, along with the Shamed Ones' murmurs that the "Jeedai" can get them closer to the gods. Is this then a precursor of what to expect, a civil war among the Yuuzhan Vong, soldiers versus the shamed, scientists verses priests? Only time will tell.
Rating: Summary: Best Yet Review: This is definetly the best book yet in the New order series. Anakin is a power to be reconed with. I liked the Vong character in this one also. I hope that Anakin does not fall to the dark side as he can be a great character to build the future around. I cannot wait for #2. I have it on order already.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down Review: I counldn't put this book down. I wish they would lengthen these NJO books. You are paying a couple of dollars more than the first books, but the NJO are shorter. besides that the length book was great!! I love seeing one of the Skywalkers/solos actually taking the fight towards the Vong. Greg did a good job portraying Anakin. I recommend this to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Best new jedi order release Review: I have read pretty much everything in the star wars saga, from zahn to the new jedi order and i am extremely pleased with this latest release. It's argueably the best new jedi order i've read and one of my all time favourites!I highly recommend all starwars fans to read these book cause they are great and they keep getting better the further the story goes.
Rating: Summary: A New, Welcome Prospective to the Series Review: Edge of Victory I: Conquest is a breath of fresh air to the New Jedi Order series. More lighthearted than the rest, the story revolves around the youngest Solo child: Anakin. The clever plot provides HIS personal views on the ongoing war with the Yuuzhan Vong...the ultimate enemy of the New Republic. So many other stories in the New Jedi Order series have revolved around major, central characters, like Han. I found it refreshing to find the plot revolving around one of the younger characters. Not only am I anxiously awaiting the sequel to this book (Edge of Victory 2: Rebirth) but I'm hoping for detailed, intriguing stories like this in the future...only about Jacen and Jaina...the other young Jedi.
Rating: Summary: Anakin Unleashed Review: As the Yuuzhan Vong spread their seed towards the Galactic Core, the Jedi steadily lose the trust of the very same people they have swore to defend. As Knights begin to fall, Anakin Solo is pulled to action by the Force. In a desperate attempt to save those he cares for, the power of the Force swells within him. As the grandson of the last Dark Lord of the Sith, Anakin must stuggle to remain a Jedi, even as events force him to unleash frightening new powers on his enemies. Conquest is edging in to Dark territory, and may do much to help us understand how the desire to achieve even the purest goals can lead to the Dark Side.
Rating: Summary: Edge of Victory I: Conquest Review: Excellent book in the Series. Great description and plot. I recommend for anyone who enjoys Star Wars.
