Rating: Summary: Entertaining Han and Leia Vignette Review: "Recovery" takes us on a journey to discover what happened after the events of "Balance Point."The Solos have escaped to Correllia, but that turns out to be unwise; immediately, assassins are on their trail. Han soon takes care of that little problem. Readers are then treated to a space battle, a race to Coruscant, and a Republic Senate vote that will either destroy the Jedi further or grant them a little breathing space. Characters from earlier and future story lines abound. Thracken Sal-Solo appears early on, and is his usual nasty self, a demonic figure that will stop at nothing to make himself a hero (with the events of Denning's "Star by Star," he's going to have a problem getting Centerpoint operational again....) He's only too happy to bid farewell to our duo as they depart for a safer haven, assisted by a trio of Barabel Jedi. These characters are a welcome addition to the NJO -- you will see more of them in "Star by Star." Denning has husband and wife still working through the issues of Chewbacca's death and its aftermath. Everyday emotions are played out in a variety of ways, especially when it comes to understanding the damage that's caused when a spouse takes the easy way out of a situation. "Recovery" is of tighter construction than "Star by Star." There's much more immediate character development, and it doesn't go off on subplot tangents. One would assume we have the e-book constraints to thank for that; certainly, the author didn't have 600+ pages to fill, and it shows. A caveat: seems to me there's a continuity issue involving Viqi Sheesh. Other than that, a well-constructed story, easy to read (I used the Microsoft Reader format), and well satisfying.
Rating: Summary: Great Short Story Review: .... In my opinion, this was the best chapter in the ebook so you'll want to be able to read it. The entire story was very well written and was an entertaining tale. There's a mixture of humor, action, and a little romance. The scenes between Han and Leia were very deep and touching without getting all mushy. The story begins three weeks after the events of Balance Point. Han and Leia are at a hospital on Corellia where Leia has been mostly in a coma during that time. They must leave in hurry after an assassination attempt on Leia's life. On their way out, they pick up a few Jedi passengers and C3PO is also along for the ride. They must get to a safe place where they can obtain fresh bacti for Leia and another injured Jedi and then eventually home to Coruscant. Of course, along the way they have one adventure after another. Han and Leia also get a chance to mend their relationship. Troy Denning managed to pack a lot into 100 pages.
Rating: Summary: Finally someone got the Leia character right! Review: After six books about Leia addressing the senate or helping refugees, we finally get some of the wit of the original Leia character back. With Han Solo playing the straight man and not whining about Chewbacca, Leia and the Barabels put a lot of humor and excitement into this ebook. There is a short senate scene toward the end, but it's not too boring. The Adobe version is a little blurry. You might want to try the Microsoft reader instead.
Rating: Summary: Nice non-essential intermezzo Review: After the events depicted in Balance Point, Han Solo is forced to take a detour in order to get his wife some desperately needed medical attention. However, their stay on Corellia is cut short by an assassination attempt as well as the unwelcome appearance of major pain-in-the-butt Thrackan Sal Solo. At the last moment, unexpected help arrives. A wary Han Solo reluctantly accepts the offered help and concentrates on finding out who is plotting to murder his estranged wife, who he wants to win back so much.... The book, while fast paced and a joy to read, is simply too short to employ much of the space-opera genre's story-telling techniques. While stating it is too short implies (in my case) I really like Denning's writing, I also think Star Wars authors should shy away from writing shorter episodes. Crucial events in the saga are ruled out almost per default, so the appeal of these E-books remains limited. If you are patient, this short story will probably end up in paper-print one way or another. If not, this book does introduce some new characters that will be appearing again in 'Star by Star' by the same author.
Rating: Summary: A fun novella - especially for fans of the New Jedi Order Review: Although short Recovery manages to present a good story and tie things up nicely by the end. Although this book isn't destined to be a classic or required High School reading it keep me entertained from start to finish. The new characters introduced are well portrayed and there is nothing in the story which seems out of place or irrelevant. If you're looking for a quick afternoon read - or if you want a place to start in the world of eBooks this book comes with a solid recommendation.
Rating: Summary: Book stuck on one computer! Review: Beware ! Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Recovery [DOWNLOAD: ADOBE READER] is completely and absurdly protected!!!! Once you get it, you better pray you'll never need to change your computer nor reinstall your Windows nor ever have your hard disc giving up on you as long as you wish to read it! You can't even lend it to someone, like ordinary books! I feel like I've been traped and robbed, since I won't be able to take it to read on holiday on my laptop, and can only read it at my temporary workplace (only place I currently have an Internet connection). Moreover, I must say, Recovery is not at all necessary for the overall New Jedi Order story line. I also found the writing sometimes confusing. So you won't need to spend 3 dollars to know it's content: The story starts with Leia recovering in a hospital. Someone makes a killing attempt on here, which Han stops. They later flee taking with them a young woman in a bacta tank and some beings turning out to be some Jedi I never heard of before. Leia struggles (successfully) for her physical recovery and to get reattuned to Han after their long separation. The story ends with Senator Viqi Sesh trying to get a senatorial vote to outlaw the Jedi and being twarted by Leia and Co. The 1 star is for the hope given by the analogy of the attempt to outlaw Jedi with this world's war to trap customers with all sorts of utterly unfair limitations to the products they bought (like this eBook and CD with errors that will only play on a limited amount of players!). May the Force Be with You and the drakness of silly overgreedy publishing companies soon be obliterated ! Karine
Rating: Summary: I'm only halfway through it after buying it two months ago.. Review: but I am definitely enjoying it. It is very much a little breakaway story from what I consider an interesting series. I was not much for Star Wars books before I picked up the first in this series and now I am definitely hooked.

Rating: Summary: This whole EBook thing is really bad. Not Recommended. Review: First, when you purchase this Electronic book, your order is not processed until the next day so do not expect to download it until the next day. Second, you have to download this Acrobat Reader thing and if you already have the full Adobe Acrobat, you still have to download and install the reader program or you cannot download the book from the website. Third, you cannot print the book or even copy it into a word processor to print it. What good is it then? How am I supposed to read it? I certainly cannot read it here on my laptop screen! The book is 97 pages (Minus the copyright-coverpages etc.) in 8 chapters. Not long enough for the 3 bucks I had to pay for it in my opinion. About the book itself? I don't know. Until I can figure out how to print the frickin thing, I won't be able to read it to review it. But in all honesty, even if it turned out to be the best book in the entire world, I will still never buy another EBook again. This whole EBook thing is pretty stupid. Why in the world can I not print the thing? How do they expect me to read it if I can't print it? Do they expect me to go out and spend a few hundred bucks on a Palm computer thing just to read a book? I don't think so! Never again. I think I just wasted 3 bucks.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother. Review: Fist, let me say this: While recovery is a good story, with rich character development and a lot of the old Han solo "burn em down and ask questions later" charm, I hurriedly downloaded and read it and then went out and bought the softcover version of Star by Star, and to my surprise I found the exact same story in the first part of that book. So, for a lot of SW fans, downloading this particular E-book is a waste of time and money.
