Summary: One more thing...
Review: I forgot to mention how funny this book was in my last review. It had me laughing out loud at some of the lines, especially the scenes between Lando and YVH 1-1-A. Great job with the humor Mr. Allston!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not the best, but pretty good.
Review: This book was pretty good. It starts right before Dark Journey ends and covers the beginnings of a new Rebel Alliance. In the beginning it only follows the Skywalkers. Mara fans will want to kill themselves when they hear her first line, but it gets better.

Jaina really grows up in this book. You see her fall in love (I won't say with whom), deal with depression, and recover more of herself than there was in Dark Journey.

I didn't think Mara's character was written as well as in other books but, if I'm correct, this is Allston's first time writing Mara. Cut him some slack!

Luke's character was written very well. He's more active in the war than he has been in years (standard years, of course.) He didn't seem as close to Mara as in other books, though.

Yes, Kyp deserves his own paragraph.:) He is definitely maturing. He loses some of his arrogance, and is actually a help:). He also loses the idea of a relationship between him and Jaina.

You see a whole different side of Jagged Fel. I won't say anything else.

Han is really supportive of Leia in this book. A suprising thing happens involoving his grief over Chewie's death.

Leia is back!!!!! She's still grieving, (but, aren't we all?) but she is returning to her old character (literally).

All in all, this book was pretty good, except for the fact the second volume doesn't come out until May (do authors have to write so slowly?!?!?!) As I said before this book is essential to the NJO series. Read it.

Summary: Ok - but still not the best
Review: I don't disagree with most of the details in any of the reviews. Rebel Dream was a pretty good book. But it was plagued by the same thing as almost all of the NJO books (save Star by Star and possibly Vector Prime). It was too short. I think it's more of, all these doulogies in NJO could be combined in one book (for each set) and go into slightly more depth on some things. Allston actually does a fairly good job of throwing interesting stuff out though and resolving some other loose ends from Star by Star and Dark Journey. I would say it's probably second or third best of the series after Star by Star (the only book which rivals Zahn's five books.) and possibly Vector Prime.

Summary: A slightly more upbeat entry in The New Jedi Order.
Review: **Contains mild spoilers*

After the great but bleak "Star By Star," and the rather bland "Dark Journey," Aaron Allston has breathed some humor into the super-long storyarc with "Rebel Dream."

Allston writes Lando Calrissian as well as he's been written since L. Neil Smith's trilogy; the bickering between the smuggler and one of his Vong-destroyer droids reminds me of the relationship between Lando and Vuffi Raa. He handles the rest of the main characters excellent as well.

Allston does a superb job writing the Yuuzhan Vong. By introducing a new relationship, between Tsavong Lah and his father, he's made the Warmaster even more three-dimensional. The human traitor Viqi Shesh remains just as despicable.

If I had one complaint, it would be that the 'Goddess' plan seems a bit contrived, as if he whipped it up just so Jaina would have extra leverage to get away with everything she does. Nevertheless, that is just one flaw, and not enough to prevent this otherwise-fine book from receiving a five-star rating.

Summary: Fairly good
Review: I read most of the New Jedi Order books. Started skipping around for awhile because I got disappointed. This one doesn't disappoint however. The plot is good and I finally fell back in love with the characters!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Thank the Force
Review: Woo-hoo!! Finally, a book that left me smiling. This book is a joy to read, and Luke is once again a three-dimensional character and not a dilapitated Jedi. I can't wait for the sequel:)

Summary: aaron allston's triumphant return!
Review: thank you, thank you, whoever decided to bring back allston as a star wars writer. he brings back the wraiths (plus some background information on what they've been doing), HUMOR (the NJO was depressing to say the least) and lando calrissian. it's good to know that my old favorites aren't dead yet. until recently, i've been harboring the hope that somehow, some way, one of the new NJO writers will resurrect Anakin through some Force trick, but i guess it ain't gonna happen. I'll really miss him. killing Anakin was... wrong. on the other hand, at least i have the jaina/jag thing to look forward to...

Summary: Wedge Rules the Galaxy... at last!
Review: Allston's Wraith Squadron series was an entertaining diversion from the normal Rogue fair. He is a solid writer who has no qualms about going in refreshing directions with his characters. This book is outstanding for it's action and the new direction he takes some of the older characters.

Observe Luke actually do something other than "sit around like a wise man on his mountain". Wedge comes out of retirement to take his true place as ruler of the galaxy. It just doesn't get any cooler than that. The Vong bad guy in this one is actually interesting as well. The whole father/son thing is intrical to the Star Wars Mythos and it works well here to give the bad guys some much needed character and flavor. Minor characters are all well portrayed. Fans of Lando, Han, etc. will be well pleased that Allston manages to get in a lot of face time for a lot of characters. They are all in good hands. Saying that Danni Qui (or whoever) was "Almost Famous" locked her in my mind's eye as that actress. I wonder if that was intended? New characters are interesting and memorable.

The story itself is pretty tight. The direction the New Republic goes in this story is refreshing. A few minor quibbles in the details (A Super Star Destroyer should have an Admiral in command, or at least a Captain), but mostly quite entertaining. Here's hoping the Rogue Squadron/Wraith Squadron series can pick up in this new universe. And that Allston finds reason to put Wedge back in the seat of an X-Wing one more time.

Now if only Zahn would come back and expand upon the political change of this book. Bel Iblis, Wedge, and Akabar are interesting characters, and should not be forgotten in the shuffle.

Summary: REBEL DREAM
Review: It's about time the Rebellion shows up again. The old Characters return to action under cover(so to say.) Luke, Leia, Han, Lando and Wedge, and a few new characters ( from the original Star Wars) get together and plan on the begining of the end for the Vong.

Summary: who cares about episode II
Review: Rebel Dream is simply one of the best books I have ever read. Finally the heros from the original trilogy get rid of the buecreacy of the New Republic and start fighting dirty. The strategy, the tactics, the overwhelming odds, I loved it!! At best episode II will be as good as this book, no way its going to be better. I think Kyp Durron or Jaina Solo could kick Anakin Skywalkers but anyday! This book could not have come at a better time, I couldn't help but think of the real heros of our armed forces fighting the real war on terrorism when reading this book. Maybe I'm being over dramatic, but I think our special forces guys have a lot in common with Jedi Knights. HOOORAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
