Summary: That wasn't any fun!
Review: Old war movies were obvious as to which character would die next. It was the guy they just spent some time on so that the viewer liked him, then the sniper would shot him in the head, or the land mine would go off. In Star Trek it was the new character that beamed down that got killed. I am not asking for only the new guy to get killed but...

The SW universe spent a lot of effort, and in turn asked us to invest some emotion in caring for Anakin. He was developed over a long period of time. His greatness was foreshadowed in hugh doses. We kept wondering how he would evolve when he reached adulthood. Now we'll never know.

It can be a great story placing a beloved character in great peril, then devising an ingenius escape. So anakin is placed in great peril. The reader wondering... Wow is this guy in trouble now, wonder how he gets out of this... oh. they killed him. guess i wasn't supposed to wonder how he gets out of this one. he doesn't.

The Rogue and Wraith Squadron books were interesting, and maybe some of it was that pilots do die in battle. So the writers had to kill off an interesting character sometimes. But how much fun would it be if they really kill off Wedge, Horn or Face? It would not have been fun at all.

This was supposed to be fun. It isn't any more.

Summary: Best so far.
Review: A friend of mine introduced me to the world of Star Wars books, being an old fan of the original movies myself. I started out with the Timothy Zahn books, some of the best science fiction I've read, and have worked my way through the timeline to the New Jedi Order series.

I have been an avid reader of these books since I finished the first of the series, Vector Prime, and I'm still reading, nine books into it. What really sets this series out from the rest of the Star Wars stories is the unique characters. While the old cast is still around (Luke, Leia, Han, etc.) a new group of characters has arisen and grown throughout the series, making you become somewhat attached to them, which is why I think this series is such a good read.

The story starts where the Edge of Victory books leave off. Anakin Solo, Han and Leia's son, decides to lead a Jedi strike team into the heart of the Yuuzhan Vong to destroy a new organic weapon the Vong have created to counter the Jedi. Along the way, we experience the bonding and emotional struggles the team faces, as well as the side story of the Vong mounting their final push coreward.

Overall, I highly recommend Star by Star. Troy Denning does an excellent job of keeping the story smooth throughout the myriad of various authors in this series. It has action, emotion, politics, everything you need in a good book.

Summary: Star of a Series
Review: I think that this is the best of the New Jedi Order books and certainly one of the best SW books ever written. Troy Denning knows what he's doing, and writes convincingly and heartfully. I was absolutely distraught at the loss of Anakin. In my humble opinion, Anakin is one of the most interesting and believable non-original-trilogy characters ever introduced. He was a character you could sympathize with and love. Killing him, while upsetting, did also ring true. It gave everything more weight. But as this series continues, and I see the quality of writing going down, I wish more and more that Anakin had been spared. The series isn't worth it. Let's negotiate with time, and trade whiny Jacen in for his little brother. Anyone with me?

Summary: BROKE MY HEART
Review: Not kidding, this book broke my heart and threw it into a meat grinder. After reading the chapter where one of the Main heroes meets their untimely demise, I put the book down and cried my eyes out. It took six weeks of grieving for a person that doesn't even exist before I could finish reading it. Even talking about it makes my eyes tear up. And with each new book coming out it gets harder and harder to read, not because they were poorly written but because of the attachment I developed over the 8 pervious novels with that character

The Yuuzhan Vong have released there deadliest weapon, the Voxin, a reptilian/arachnid like blood hound that literally sniffs out Jedi, and is mercilessly hunting down and slaughtering the defenders of the universe.

A darling plain is thought up, a group of Jedi, including all the Solo children, will allow themselves to be capture, so they can infiltrate a Vong world ship and destroy the source of the Voxin. A mission that could very well be suicide mission.

Back on Corusant, a respectable senator has been bought out by the Vong, and is open the door so that the Yuuzhan Vong can invade...

This is by far one of the best book chronicles of any genre, and is emotionally raw, you can literally feel the pain and anxiety the characters are going through. The New Jedi Order is par with Jack Ryan, Dune, Mission Earth, and The Wheel of Time.

Summary: what the....
Review: While I was reading this, it was the best book in the world. But then...they killed Anakin. WHERE THE... WHERE... in the WORLD... did they get the idea "Oh, let's make a book where the Main Hero/Little Brother, Anakin, gets KILLED!?!?!? In this review, I am expressing my opinion only, and am not trying to stop you from reading the book. This was indeed a great book (and many people agree with me), but the death of a major character who had yet more to develop and grow... That's what ruined this book for me.
The Junior Jedi Knights series, written for kids, was based around Tahiri and Anakin's adventures together. Even in the Young Jedi Knights series, he was somewhat major. And in Rebirth, he was FINALLY developing a relationship with Tahiri. Then, a book later, they kill him! Now, many of you may understand why am slightly ticked off, and many of you may want me to stop whining. But, this is merely my opinion of the book.
There are those of you who are...irritated at my revealing of a major event in the book, but I would like to point out the fact that I am not the first to tell this secret, and I have only given away this one. There are those of you who are irritated by my "selfishness" in wanting Anakin to live. My only comment on that is that I am entitled to my opinion and you to yours.
And my opinion is that they have ruined all future Star Wars books that future authors who stick to the timeline may want to write.
This book has actually had such a big impact on my life, that i think I may become a writer, just to fix this problem. And many may hate the books I write, for their restoration of those heros, such as Anakin.
This book was a great book, forgeting that Anakin was killed, and i must thank the author, now matter how much i may disagree with him/them, because he has ultimately helped me decide what I am going to do when I grow up (I'm only 13).

Summary: Best New Jedi Order Book as of 3/18/03
Review: For any Star Wars fan, especially those who enjoy NJO, this book is must-read. It's longer than most, and contains a great story from beginning to end. Probably the best action and unfolding events of any Star Wars book.

Summary: War is pain and suffering
Review: This is a really great book, and shows very clearly that you can't have war without loss. To me, the fact that a major character dies just adds more truth to this excellent series of books.

When you put this story into perspective with the books that follow, it makes much more sense. It shows that losing great Jedi like Anakin does happen, and that others grieve and eventually draw power from the experience. Also, it allowed Jacen, who was in Anakin's shadow much of the time, to have his own terrible experiences and grow from them.

Summary: A Great Book
Review: I think you guys need to calm down a little bit. As an actor, I know that playwriters have a saying:"Sometimes you have to kill your babies." The same thing goes here. I'm sure it hurt troy a lot to kill anakin, as it hurt me and everyone else reading the book. But um, Isn't that what books are SUPPOSED to do? To be moved, isn't that the purpose of literature? His death was fantastic and not at all contrived. I have no complaints.
All in all, I thought this was an excellent book and I hope troy will write many more NJO books.

Summary: disappointing101
Review: The story was great with all the aspects being the typicall fast paced star wars we all love. But then Dennings has to go and kill off Anakin(my favorite of the Solo kids). With the death of Anakin my reviews plummetted. After the last two books bulding up Anakin as a character there was and still is no good reason to have him die. On the contrary there were extremely high hopes for Anakin as the successor of Luke Skywalker and the new affection with Tahiri. Dennings had absolutely no right to kill Anakin and send the NJO int a spiral. If I were George Lucas I would ban him from ever righting another Star Wars book again or else he might end up killing Han or even Luke. THANKS ALOT DENNINGS FOR NEARLY RUINING NJO SERIES!

Summary: A POORLY WRITTEN STORY
Review: With far too many people, especially one big character, dying and very hard to follow plot lines and even worse battle scenes.
I won't sugar coat this review, the book disappoints. I only gave it one star because we're not given the option of giving it NO STARS, which is what it deserves. Enough people have written about the of Anakin Solo by now that I'm not giving away anything by talking about his . IT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. Then Denning makes Coruscant fall to the Vong as if the rest of this stuff he wrote in this book wasn't bad enough.
I think that Troy Denning only ed Anakin off to vainly try to get his name up there with the GREAT writers of the star Wars Universe like Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole, Kevin J. Anderson and Aaron Allston, to name a few. WELL Mr. Denning, you didn't do it. In my never to be humble opinion your name belongs on the "banned from ever writing another Star Wars book" list. I truly hope that George Lucas sees to making this happen.
Since being introduced to the SW Universe by my parents I truly enjoyed reading about the Solo children, and watching them grow through all of the books they've been in since they were born. Being 16 myself, I most closely identified with Anakin as he was a lot like me in so many ways. There was great hope that he would be the successor to Luke Skywalker, not to mention the budding romance with Tahiri. All of that is gone now because Troy Denning wanted to make a name for himself by one of the Solo kids, and as I see it, for NO OTHER REASON.
Sadly, I agree that Anakin can't possibly be brought back. If someone finds a way I'd love to see it happen. But, since it can't, along with Anakin dies my interest in the Star Wars Universe. It was fun, but when you children for no good reason, and this book gives NO good reason for, or outcome from, Anakin's , you lose me as a fan.
