Summary: The darkest book yet.......
Review: Star by Star is the longest book in the NJO order and argubly the most controversial since the first book. I was generally impressed by Denning's characterisation. A lot of them will play important roles in the future story. I heard about the death of a major character before reading the book and I was extremely disappointed by the one chosen. I disagreed 100% with the choice but it makes one wonder where this series will be heading. All in all well written, the extra pages make it a better book than most in the series.

Summary: The Next Step
Review: This is a very interesting step in the saga. Since this is going to be a 5 year saga you should know this book touches the very bottom of darkness and you can't wait to see what the next book is going to bring. Big characters that have been with us for years loose their lives and the New Republic gets one hell of a wake up. The one drawback I found about this book was it's length they should have made this a HB duology but then again after you read it where would you stop.

Summary: Dark and Disturbing
Review: This is the darkest book yet. It holds quite a few surprises.

Summary: A very good read, but...............
Review: Star by Star is a fine addition to the New Jedi Order universe. Never a dull moment for the reader. I would have given the book a better rating if it had not depressed me so. Why? The death of one of the best and most colorful characters in the New Jedi Order! I looked forward to reading each new book in the series because of this individual. I feel as if I lost a family member!
The book is dark, but well written. Some of the characters seemed a little off in the way they react to certain situations and crisis.

Summary: wow
Review: hey, this book was a perfect 5 stars, until the untimely demise of the major character that ruined my thoughts for the entire book. When i read a book, i get wrapped up in the storyline, and when something this major happens, it tends to ruin the reading experience. But, besides the major charcters death, i was rather diasppointed in the amount of other deaths. However, i accept them, as i accept (major character's name)'s death. and i will read on in the series when the next book comes in february. i encourage you to as well.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: Star by Star is one of the best Star Wars books ever, forget about the New Jedi Order alone. Some things may have transpired in the book that I didn't want to happen as a Star Wars fan, but they kept me hooked. Its 600 pages of great entertainment and doesn't leave me feeling like loose ends were typed up to keep the book short. I can't wait until February. All I can say about this for others is "WOW, great book". I'm a slow reader and read it in a day. May the force be with you, and the New Republic.

Summary: Nearly Too Much To Bear.
Review: I found this book to be very well written but I'm growing weary of the dark and depressing nature of this series. My biggest problem is I'm so sick and tired of the relentless punishment being dished out to the Solo family. It's been one thing after another for them. Death, depression, alcoholism, marital estrangement, a ten-minute reconciliation, torture, near-death experience for Leia, Leia nearly losing her legs, now another death. This 20-year plus Star Wars fan is on the verge of abandoning the whole franchise if this continues for much longer. I'm crying out Uncle at this point.

I gave this book 4 stars because of the characterizations. Despite being beat up once again, Han and Leia are actually very well written this time around. Leia is making some choices in her life that is long overdue. Han is the overprotective rogue that I fell in love with so long ago. His reaction to the events of this book show how much he has grown since Vector Prime. Anakin is portrayed as a potentially great Jedi Master and a leader on par with Obi Wan Kenobi. Of course, we can't have that because his last name is Solo. Jacen continues his own hero's journey and I have a feeling that he is the key to final resolution, but then again, his last name is also Solo so his journey will probably not take him very far after all. Jana is struggling with herself and this should lead into an interesting story for Dark Journey. The biggest surprise for me was the large role given to Lando. This is the best portrayal of Lando that I have seen in any book ever. I like his robots and I love the way he handles crisis. Luke is finally acting like the Jedi Master and leader that he was meant to be. It's great to see him in the thick of things again. Borsk Fey'lya show sides of himself that we never seen before. Kyp is also present and gets a bit of a dressing down from Han and Luke.

We also see a lot of other characters such as Zekk, Tenel Ka's and Lowbacco from the Young Jedi Knighthood books. Though I didn't read these books and am only vaguely familiar with these characters, I thought that they, along with all of the new characters, were written well enough for me to feel that I know them. All of the young Jedi on the mission are three-dimensional and I thought that Denning did an exceptional job of handling such a large cast of characters.

As far as the plot is concern, I am not too impressed. I still don't see that the big mission was necessary or worth the price that it cost the Jedi. I guess that remains to be seen in future books. The death toll continues to rise in this series and the death of thousands is taken with a gain of salt. There's also a kidnapping subplot, yawn. Kidnapping plots have been way overdone and this one in particular was very distasteful for me.

Summary: The best so far
Review: This book is definatly what this series needed. After book after book of the same exact plot. (Jedi are hunted, aliens are mean, jedi win narrow victory with losses) There is something new in this book. Not to mention a character "dies" (Which I think is highly suspect and don't think this character will remain "dead" in the next few books) The new change in this book I will call chaos. Both sides lose and win, but in the end you are not sure how things will balance. The other books make little ground at all and truthfully don't progress the war much at all. I feel this is the only book so far in this series that has done anything even remotly differnent and the only book that will be remembered after this series is done. A worthy read and well worth the price but not typical of this series.

Summary: A dark future....a broken heart.
Review: This book is being given five stars for the excellence of the story; but it breaks my heart to see what you've done with the one character who had the most potential to carry the series. It could have/should have been anyone else and they would not have been missed; what Lucasfilm, the Ballantine publishing group, and the author have done is create a huge void in the Force that will not be filled anytime soon. This book is a tragedy, in the truest sense of the word.

Summary: this books sucks!
Review: anyone who did'nt like the fact they killed Chewbacca off in Vector Prime, please don't read this book. I did'nt like how this book played on your emotions like a damned soap opera. The sweeping grandeur of george lucas's original vision is dead here, don't read this book or watch episode 1 or any of the other stupid episodes watch the original trilogy. Tenel Ka and Jacen Solo were out of character, I expected to see more of their comedic love hate relationship like Kevin Anderson and Rebecca Moesta wrote them in the young jedi knights. plus this book is too dark, we've seen enough real darkness in the recent tradgedy of sept. 11, that we long for the good guys to vanquish all evil.
