Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Well paced, nice mix of action/characters/humor
Review: This was a good book. Not up there with the greats or anything, but a very enjoyable read.

March Upcountry has a good mix of character development, action, humor (not silly), and a good story line. It kept me hooked. I recommend it, and am just starting the second in the series "March to the Sea."

Summary: Lets go "Upcountry"
Review: What should turn out to be a fine space opera as it unfolds, gets my three stars. I hold two back because, although they are essential for the overall plot Weber and Ringo are developing, two of their devices make me cringe.

Starting off with the unlikely rescue of a shaman who gives up everything for his asi helps the story but makes my asi ache.

Second, the inability to manufacture anything that provides a tactical advantage beyond the ammo/power limited weapons or eliminates the drop dead escape date bothers me. These are MARINES.

Having vented, I just ordered the second installment which I hope to enjoy as much as the first.

I recommend this book to all space opera addicts.

Summary: I will buy this series for my collection
Review: When I first found out about this book on the Baen booksite [website]I was hopeful because I liked all the Honor books (although I have gotten tired of her - I bought the last one and haven't even read it yet after a year). I wasn't sure about the other author not recalling anything I ever read of him.

I have now read all 3 of the series and think this first book is one of the best not just of the series but as it stands on its own.

The focus of the first book is to show that the Prince is not just a "dumb blonde" (forgive me all you women - being a blonde women myself, I usually don't make the joke) that his bodyguard take him for. It also is a journey into making him more than he is. It is fast past action with wonderful dialog.

It starts with everyone except the Prince's tutors hating him and ends with everyone respecting him as a person who is worth risking your life for, even getting killed for.

I love the scenes where the Prince demands that the guards carry his baggage and they hate it, only to have that baggage save their lives later.

I will purchase this book and indeed the whole series. It is worth it.

Summary: A union of writer that definitely will set new standards.
Review: While the reader first suspects and typical Royal Intrigue it quickly turns from a simple assasination attempt to a thrilling plot that absorbs the reader. Another Weber trait is being able to draw the reader to feel the emotions of the characters. While I am not as familiar with Ringo's style, there is no doubt that this was a union of styles that works extremely well.

Summary: One of the Best in Scifi this year
Review: You get to meet Prince Roger, at the start you say what an idiot, then it is Go! Roger Go! The people you meet in here are rich full people, you can see some one you know or have known, if you were in the armed forces. Pocking Good, Read the book to understand that one!
