Rating: Summary: Good Book! It's worth it! Review: I've read Dragonflight, Dragon Quest, and The White Dragon, and am planning on buying the rest. I adored this book and dragonquest. I Think my favorite is DragonQuest, but, this is WORTH IT!!!! You'll immediatly fall in love with Ruth. He's such a sweetie. I'd tatke this book anyday!
Rating: Summary: EXCITLENT~!!! Review: this is one of the best anne mccafery books I have every read! It was great! I loved the way it was written! I could read it over and over and over!
Rating: Summary: Good enough, but coulda been better. Review: I have read the first two books in the series, and I feel that this, the third, could have been better. It started off slow, and took a bit to get exciting, especially with the construction of the Cave Hold, Jaxon's illness, and his romance with Sharra. I had a couple of complains while reading it, though. For instance, why did she keep stringing along Jaxom and Menolly as a couple in the beginning of the book? It seems so obvious to me that she (Menolly) was jealous and curious about Jaxom's sordid love life with Corana, and even coupled them on trip to the Southern cove on the search for D'ram. Then, in the middle, she changes the whole relationship with the introduction of Sharra for Jaxom, and Sebell for Menolly. Well! I resented Sharra for the rest of the book, and Sebell, too. But otherwise, she made great strides in the series, keeping up an excuse to keep dragonmen alive on Pern. My only beef is, which book is next?
Rating: Summary: the best in the Pern series Review: I'm sorry Ms. McCaffrey did not continue this story line. I thought the White Dragon was the most interesting, alluringly funny and precocious of all the dragons of Pern. THAT dragon was too human...
Rating: Summary: If you love science-fiction, read this book. Review: I first read the book in high school and haven't stopped reading it since. The White Dragon is one of my personnal favorites in the series of the Dragon Riders. Who would have thought that a little runt dragon would be the answer to all of Perns problems.
Rating: Summary: An other-wordly vacation Review: White Dragon was the first McCaffrey book I read. I still remember buying it to read on vacation. Does it get any better? My body on a warm sun lit chaise lounge, my nose in the book and my mind vacationing in Pern. Crystalsinger I enjoyed the same way. Each book is a break, even if I read it in Tacoma instead of in an off season camping ground. Excuse me, I need to go read.
Rating: Summary: This is not fantasy, it is science fiction Review: Genetic engineering, travelers from earth being stranded on a strange planet, lost technology found again. This book has the best of science fiction. Folllow the re discovery of their roots in this the third book of the Dragonriders of Pern.
Rating: Summary: I'll never mock Fantasy again! Review: I always thought Fantasy with its Dragons and such like was strictly for kids and juveniles till by chance I picked up the White Dragon. Picked up and could not lay it aside. Perhaps I was wrong to begin in the middle, but now, even after reaing many of the series, White Dragon rmains my favourite Pern novel. The story of Jaxom growing to manhood, with his doubts and worries, with Ruth, Menolly, Robinton and of course Sharra, with a continent to discover, Thread to overcome and a whole new world to open up was beyond all my expectations. I immediately began haunting bookstors for the rest of the Pern novels. I also promised never again to knock Fantasy!
Rating: Summary: Read it! Review: The story of a young man, lost between two worlds, that of Lord Holder, and that of Dragonrider. Lord Jaxom,
unexpected Impresser of Ruth, the White Dragon, will never be a true dragonrider, or will he?
A fabulous story of growing up, courage, friendship, and daring.
Whenever I think dragon, I think McCaffrey, and then, The White Dragon!
Rating: Summary: What happened? Worst of the 3 dragon books. Review: This is the first Anne Mc Caffrey book I read. I found it very confusing with turns = years and Weyr = a home for dragons and their riders and other terms. I reccomend that any first time Pern readers read Dragonflight, Dragonquest or Dragonsdawn first. This book was great with Jaxom developing with a crush and the critisism that Jaxom and Ruth (Jaxom's white dragon) get because never has there been a dragonrider the leader of a hold and Ruth is a runt and white. No dragons are white. In addition to being a white runt, firelizards seem to like Ruth, which makes them unpopular with some holdfolk. Jaxom and Ruth must learn how to fly and breathe fire together without anyones help.
