Rating: Summary: Another great one! Review: Another great book in the Nightrunner series, wonderful, but I didn't love it as much as the first two. Still, I highly recommend it. Alec and Seregil are very cute together. I just love them ^^ It definitely leaves some loose ends hanging though... I hope another one comes out soon!
Rating: Summary: Great Series -- Read them all! Review: Well, to start out, I am only in the middle of the second book. However, I believe that the third will be just as good, so I gave it a five. I chose to write this review under the third book because it seemed to be the most appropriate place for a review of all three books. They're great! At first I thought, as some others did, it was just going to be a normal, sorcery and thievery book, but it quickly changed into a unique fantasy novel of political intrigue. I haven't much to say other than that they are really great. Try the first one, if you like it, buy all three and read 'em! If you don't, well, all you have to do is return it to the library! Anyways, I happen to know Mrs. Flewlling's son, he goes to my high school. He was able to get me a copy of her next book, still to be published. I don't know how much I am allowed to say, because, well, it's not published yet. But what I read on those 700 some 8 1/2 by 11 pieces of paper astounded me. It is what got me reading her first three books. The forth book is about the childhood of that one queen mentioned in the first book. Well, I can't remember her name but it is the queen that grew up as a boy and then found out she was a girl. When this book comes out, GET IT! It has got to be her best written book so far! I loved it! It was impossible to put down, seriously. My hands were glued to it. The ending is perfect too, although you may argue that it kind of leaves off for a sequel... Well, I guess I can hint at the title. It is going to be called something like "The Bone Doll," look for it this summer. At least, that is what her son told me. I hope it comes out soon, cause I can't wait to buy it! I know it sounds like I am lying or I am trying to hype up sales for her next book, but it is only because I truly think that you really ought to at least read it, if not buy it, because it you read it, you'll wanna buy it. Rating: Summary: A good book - but not as good as her others Review: Let me just say this: I will follow Alec and Seregil anywhere. However, I was a little disappointed by this book - the first two were great, full of adventure and great characterizations. This book had a Seregil that I didn't really recognize. Yes, he was depressed, but all the life had been sapped out of him, leaving not very much for the reader to care about. I also found the lengthy time spent in Seregil's homeworld to be a disappointment. To be honest, I wanted to see how the war was going, not read endless discussions of the diplomacy involved. I have to say though, that I did enjoy the relationship between Alec and Seregil, and the devotion that Alec showed, even when Seregil was having problems coping. I also enjoyed the other relationship that was developed over the course of the novel. I hope the next book with Seregil and Alec ties up some of the loose ends that the book leaves open.
Rating: Summary: Not so sure about this one Review: I read and liked the other two books. This one is not so good so far. I admit that I've only just begun reading it, and have temporarily paused as I've reached a point where I recognise I'm not enjoying it. For one thing, there are certain things in Fantasy novels that I like less than other things. Usually that includes politics, long unpronounceable names with apostrophes and hyphens and accented vowels, and a few other things. Well, so far it's been a lot of political goings on, a lot of Aurenfaie words I can't pronounce and keep getting mixed up, and... okay, I admit it, the homosexual relationship that Alec and Seregil are having makes me uncomfortable when I read about all their romantic looks and caresses and stuff. It just does. I'm kind of disappointed in myself, but it's true, and there ya go. Those three factors combined have not helped. But even worse is how miserable half the characters are feeling, how slow the build-up is at first, and the fact that the plot seems forced and deliberate, just so it can continue. It's not like it's a part of the series so much as a totally different story, coincidentally using the same characters. And unlike some people perhaps, I didn't ever care at all about Seregil's past. Without Nysander, it's lost a lot of the charm I enjoyed in the other books. With Seregil no longer a nobleman by day, cat burglar by night, some of the better adventure is missing. With Alec all moony-eyed with another guy, I can't help but be distracted (clearly he should've ended up with Beka). Not to mention everyone seems to treat sex like it's a toy. Nope. Sorry. Don't like it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent work, as always! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed all three of the Nightrunner books so far, and am looking forward to any future books in it as well. Lynn Flewelling's writing style flows so well, and the stories are just plain engrossing, from the plots and political intrigue, to the characters and their relationships. The relationship between Seregil and Alec, in particular, is amazingly well done in all three, and it's gratifying to see how they've grown in a few years, and to see them with a more equal partnership than they had at first, both in and out of their talimenios bonds. Well done, Ms. Flewelling, and I look forward to more!!
Rating: Summary: Different, but still good Review: Traitor's Moon is different from Lynn Flewellings former novels, but it's not as worse as many reviewers maintain. 1.:This is not a "good boys - against - bad boys - novel" where the bad boys get their well earned trashing, but a book about political intrigues and loyalities, where the grey area is dominating. When "smiles are concealing knifes" there're not only enemies on the other side of the fence, but also within your own trustworthy allies and friends. So if you're looking for some great battle that will solve all problems, you'd better go and read something else. 2.: Alec's and Seregil's relationship deepens - I wonder why some other reviewer feel so uncomfortable? One thing is clear, you can't expect that after being alone for almost 2 years they're not making love. I want to emphasize the expression "making love" because that's what they do and what they feel. There're no perversions nor detailed descriptions of their sexuality (like in so many other books I don't want to mention now), but a relationship that is developing along the way. 3.: Seregil's going home. Don't expect some happy family gathering or some emotional scenes of reconciliation though. As a "Ya'shel ki" (half-breed soul) he learns not only to accept his fate but also his past. Revealing some rather interesting details about his family, his exile and the world he lived in Seregil's unbelievably complex charakter is shown once again. 4.: All fans of Beka and Klia can claim themselves lucky. Lot's of time is spent on their development and on their problems. Both profitate the most of the plot by gaining new friends as well as enemies. Beka's love affair with an Aurenfaie sets some promising complications in motion. I liked the book and would recommand it any time, but it's certainly not a stroke of genius.
Rating: Summary: Neverending story.... Review: Altough I've loved the first two Nightrunner books,I've lost patience whit this one.Seven hundred pages of bickering and negotiations are too much.I hope in Nightrunner number four.
Rating: Summary: The saga continues... Review: I can't begin to say how much I have enjoyed the Nightrunner Series, and especially "Traitor's Moon". The book takes Alec and Seregil (along with Beca - in charge of her own troops at last) back to Seregil's home - a home from which he has been exiled. The book succeeds on many levels, it's an exciting adventure, but also explores the themes of isolation, family strife and prejudice. The interpersonal relationships are beautifully written, and Alec & Seregil's growing bond is a joy to read. Though I have a large number of book cases in my home, there is one special shelf that contains Tolkein's "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings", Ursula LeGuin's "Earthsea Trilogy", and Raymond Feist's "Riftwar Saga". Flewelling's "Nightrunner" series has been added to that shelf. I anxiously await the next installment. (And thank you, Ms. Flewelling, for make each book a self-contained story within the overall story arc of the series!)
Rating: Summary: Fast Paced Fun Read Review: I have read the first two books in this series. The plot moved quickly. I was never bored. I can not wait to finish the last book.
Rating: Summary: Best yet! Review: A bit slower moving, with less fighting this book focuses more on the characters. In this book you go deep down into the characters souls and hearts, learn about why they are the way they are and learn about their pasts. Still just like the other books, I couldn't put it down. My only regret is that this is the last one written so far, and now I'm forced to sit and wait for Lynn to write another!
