Rating: Summary: An Imaginative Story Of A Boy and His Power Hungry Father Review: Based on the hot selling computer games, Myst and Riven; This book is about a boy, named Atrus, who lives quite a quiet life with his mother until his father arrives to come take him away and to teach him the ways of D'ni. As days pass on, and Atrus gets more and more experienced in the olden ways, he soon learns of a plot where his father is mearly using him a pawn in his scheme to enslave millions of people and become like a god to them... I really enjoyed this book since it gave me some insight into how the two computer games tied together as well as giving me an in depth look at Atrus. If you like reading stories full of mystical worlds and fantastic details, you'll love Myst: The Book Of Atrus.
Rating: Summary: Really cool Review: This was the first Myst book that I read. I really liked it a lot. It was interesting, exciting and all that is needing in a good book. Well then I found there were more books! So right after I finished Book of Atrus I bought the others. And I loved them just as much. You have to read all the books for everything to come in place. I recommend this book highly. I even got my friend to read this book and she loved it just as much. Anyway this is a really cool book. And a really cool story.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully exciting, pleasuring and explaining! Review: I first read this book to see if it would help me in the computer game. Then I discovered something more. It had a plot! After the first three chapters I was hooked. The storyline echanted me and I almost could not put the book down. The authors brilliantly spliced an amusing plot with keen science, logic, and fantasy. Indeed, it explained the scenario that our poor friend Atrus was in on MYST Island. After finishing the book, I found there were others and I immediately bought them. At last I knew the beginning, and the eventual "end", to the MYST/RIVEN computer games. But as I said before, it's much more than that. The lengthy books were interesting to even me, a 13 year old. The authors did a wonderful job compiling all this information together.
Rating: Summary: More Emersive and Enchanting Than Even The Game Review: This book begins slightly before the game of Myst and ends slightly after the game of Riven. This novel really serves as an introduction into the games. It answers many of the questions relating to both the game Myst and Riven. Towards the end of this novel, the reader finds out about the world Riven, which happens to be the sequel to Myst. We discover a whole new world, or two, or three, in this novel. It clears up many of the problems and ties up some loose ands that came from the games. Should you want to buy the games, I would reccommend purchasing this book first.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: It had answers to alot of the questions, such as: why do the people of Riven really like the nuber 5.The idea of it all is so interesting. A true mind and eye-catcher Another reviewer said this is not for kids. Whatever! I am 13 years of age and this book was as thrilling as any other book I have read. Plus a great cover. For Hardback.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully mystical Review: I thought this book was an excellent idea. It was completely original and a very good read. It was full of wonderful images and romanticised worlds. It also had a dark, secretive aspect which I suspect will be talked more about in the follow-up books. I couldn't put it down and I'm looking forward to reading the other books of the series.
Rating: Summary: Boring, Drab, and Simply Wonderful! Review: For those who have not played MYST, I feel sorry for you. It is tough work. (But I finally, well, cheated - don't tell anybody!). I walked around Channelwood for 12 hours! To get even, I read this wonderful book. No, it is not for children. I have heard of a friend who did complete the game without cheating. But he had diagrams, charts, and could have got a college degree in the process. MYST is hard reading. The authors show no mercy. It's as boring as MYST. But what about Catherine? Is she real or a figment of someone's imagination? What is D'Ni? How do you write a book like Atrus? How do you write a linking book? How was MYST, the island, created? Who created it? How did Atrus lose the MYST book? All the answers to the questions are in the book. And if you haven't played MYST, what are you doing owning a computer?
Rating: Summary: A great way of finding out background info. Review: I have just finished reading this book 2 days ago and all I have to say is woa the detail in this book is great just like in the games Myst and Riven. After I had finished the Myst and Riven games I found that I needed more background information. I got the book for my birthday and did not think it to be interesting at first but it was. I encourage anyone who has not read it and is a Myst and Riven fan to read it. The book explained it all to me from Atrus' birth until I freed his Wife Katran (Cathrine) from Riven in the game. It makes me want to play Riven over again. I was so pleased by the book that I am going to purchase the next book "Myst" The Book Of Ti'ana. This is possibly the best book I have ever read and so I gave it 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: A gift from god! Review: The novel Myst:The Book Of Atrus is the best book I've Ever Read in along time. The descriptive texture in the book is simply amazing . Not to mention I couldn't put It down . I would advise this book to anyone especially anyone who loved the game will get lost in this amazing book!
