Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Refreshing Review: All these years and Pern is still the most richly imagined world in fantasy today. Any Pern fan will loved this. I did. I recommend it.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: OK, only because of Pern Review: Any book about Pern is worth reading, because there may be at least a snippit of dragons in them. This book had very little. Any author can write stories about unappreciated younger daughters. Nobody writes about dragons like Anne McCaffery. I wish she would spend more time doing it!...
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A Lady or a Drudge? Review: Continuing the story of Pern's deadly plague that began in the novel Moreta, Dragonlady of Pern, Nerilka, once the overlooked middle daughter, of a selfish and greedy Lord Holder, becomes the oldest living daughter. Unable to condone her fathers refusal to help the sick and dying, Nerilka abandons her family to become a drudge in the household of a neighboring Lord Holder. Here she helps to organize the relief efforts of this household, supports the daughter of the house and the Lord Holder himself through their grief, and earns the respect of the Lord Holder. The tenacity of Nerilka herself and the relationships that develop between Nerilka and two surviving members of this family form the nucleus of this novel.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I reread it once a year, as I do all my Pern books! Review: I am searching for an obscure science fiction trilogy that was illustrated by the same illustrator of Nerilkas story. When I saw these illustrations, it clicked in my memory. The only thing I remember about the trilogy is that some king was eaten by owls. Can anyone help?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Facinating and Insightful Review: i found Nerilka's Story to be a facinating book that looked into Nerilka's past and present life and shows us through her actions what her pet pieves are and how she tolerates things. i have been a major Anne McCaffery fan ever since Damia and this one rates right up there with Renagades of pern.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A sensitive portrayal of a hidden woman Review: I found this to be a most poignant portrayal of Nerilka. In some places it moved me to tears, not only through the description of the devastation, but the emotions so well described. It has made me wish over the years since I first read the tale that Ms. McCaffrey would expand on the themes touched upon in this particular time in Pern's past. The characters are vivid and one can understand just how the events would come to pass. Probably a better read for women than men, as most men don't like to be told they don't notice "plain" women :-)
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Jewel of Pern from a different prospective Review: I had read reviews for Nerilka's Story most of which gave the impression that Ms. McCaffrey's time and effort had been wasted writing the book. I however beg to differ. This book told a truely unique story of a girl who is nothing speicial other than the fact that she is the Lord Holder's daughter. Nerilka is a middle daughter of a large family and she has no one who really cares for her except her mother and a few siblings. When her mother dies and her father takes his mistress for a wife she is pressed into labor for a woman she despises, sewing dresses for her stepmother. She finally runs away to help the over worked healers fighting the Great Plauge. Her journey leads her to Rautha Hold where Lord Alessen is trying to salvage his distruaght hold. She works for a month making serum to innoculate all the people and animals of Pern when a devistating thing happens, making Lord Alessen more miserable, to the point when she agrees to make him a cup of poison after leaving a heir to Hold Ruatha. With her loving patience she is able to salvage a life, make a distraught man tentativly happy, and create a place for herself in a world where her father didn't even know her name.

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Good story, but seemingly written for children Review: I have enjoyed all of Anne McCaffrey's books, especially the crystal singer series, and although i did enjoy this book i found the style to be that of a childrens' book, the edition i had even had illistrations, how cute! I think Ms. McCaffrey may have been under pressure to produce more Dragonriders of Pern books and got this one out as quickly as possible. Good book to buy for your young relatives, nieces and daughters should be your target.
