Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A most novel novel! Thought-provoking & entertaining
Review: This book takes the classic quest, twists it inside out & upside down quite deftly and altogether convincingly, enlists the reader's sympathies on the the side of the "bad guys", creates memorable characters, is wonderfully entertaining, and unusually thought provoking. If you like fantasy, but occasionally find it a tad repetitive and predictable, this book is for you. I have recommended this book to all my friends, given copies to my daughters, and actually gotten a hardcover for myself (which I don't often do), & I have read it twice already.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The covers on my copy are all worn out from so much use.
Review: This book was a lot of fun. The premise of bad guys being necessary to creation's balance is an interesting concept that sets our heroes up for both a neat epic adventure and some speculation on who exactly the bad guys are. Unfortunately, our heroes start to sound a little bit like...well, heroes. Good guys. The best part of this book is the fact that we're rooting for the bad guys, and they risk losing us by being a bit too nice...Sam does, anyway. Valerie and Arcie are nicely consistent. Don't expect too much in the way of philosophy, but all in all, lots of fun.

Summary: This book is a great fantasy novel
Review: This book was an excellent book. It is what got me startig to read daily. This book uses all sorts of characters and dialog which just helps improve upon this book. There is absolutly nothing she could have done to make this book any better. She has I believe matched her father's writing. I hope she won an award for this book it was great.

Summary: What fun is Good anyway???
Review: This is an awsome book. For anyone who grew up rooting for the bad guys to win or who wondered what would happen if good lost this is the book for you. With a blonde assassin, a vertically challenged pick-pocket, a stick-swinging Druid, a mute Dark Knight, a sorceress eager to eat her companions, and a spying centaur who faints during a fight, this story is both funny and exciting. You'll laugh when the assassin gets hit with a stick. It's not very serious, but if you like fantasy and comedy, this is the book for you. Oh, and go bad guys!!!

Summary: Best book I ever read
Review: This is my favorite book of all time. I haven't seen it in years and have been looking for it for a long time. It is the first mainstream book I read that said, "Good needs Evil, just as Evil needs Good to exist."

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Highly entertaining fantasy
Review: This is one of my all-time favorite fantasy books. After reading far too many stories about good conquering evil, it's a sheer delight to see a story set *after* the final battle, with delightful anti-heroes and tongue-in-cheek twists on all the standard fantasy cliches. Sam the depressed assassin is a breath of fresh air into the stale world of too-perfect fantasy heroes.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Nice twist on the typical fantasy tale; 3 1/2 stars!
Review: This was a fun read; not a serious one or one that added to
the fantasy genre.

The highlights of this book are:

(1) Evil has to save the world by trying to restore the
game balance; so good people are after them;
(2) the humor is fairly good in this tale;
(3) the pacing is well done;
(4) the story is light on evil so if you don't want a serious
spread, you got it in this tale; and
(5) There are some clever outcomes for the villains; in other words, they succeed in ways that aren't usual

The areas that aren't so great are:

(1) If you wanted an in depth discussion of how evil characters would really be, you won't get it. The evil characters in this tale are more;
(2) while the characters are detailed, it lacks heart and
emotional resonance (slight exception for the main character);
(3) Not enough on details or legends;
(4) Several things remind me of a D&D game so if you hate
the game, be warned.; and
(5) A few points don't make logical sense (no spoilers here)

Overall, an above average read for veteran fantasy readers,
but this is no George R.R. Martin nor Raymond E. Feist. But then, this is her first book so I might eat my hat later. :)

Summary: Exiliratingly evil....a new insight on the meaning of hero.
Review: To my knowledge there is not a book of this kind and caliber in existence, and most certainly not in Dragonlance. The classic bout of Good and Evil turned upside down to exonerate the villians, who are the heroes of the story. Weaved into this glorious plot is a deep message about the nature of Good and Evil, making the point that someone is more than just bad or good. Feelings, memories, experiences and friendships are a part of every being. A definite must read for those of a dark nature, and a most entertaining read for those not so lucky.

Summary: This book is my favorite book and it is so good.
Review: Villains by Necessty is the best book I have ever read. I have read it about 3 times staright. This book is about how the baance of the world is going to be destroyed by the unbalance of light and dark. The light have over come the dark so much that the earth has but 6 villains. It's like ying and yang, there must be good and evil, light and dark to have a good world. This book just pulls you in and there are no boring parts, just interesting and exciting ones. This book is full of imagination and creativity. I totally recomend this book to anyone that loves and adventure and fantasy.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Entertaining and worth reading, not brilliant
Review: Villians by Necessity is a fun and amusing book about the bad guys trying to set the world right again, after the triumph of goodness and light. A definite parody of the "heroic fantasy", the book is fun and an enjoyable read. The plot is standard (anti)-heroic quest fare, and the characters are more cariacature-like than full-drawn personalities: Valerie is just nasty, Robin faints at everything, etc. Sam is the one exception, and thus the most likeable character in the book, in my opinion. He is the one who really blurs the lines between what is good and what is evil. Fun, but with its share of flaws (some of the comic bits are a bit over-done) and inconsistancies. For people who enjoyed the premise of this book, I'd recommend Louise Cooper's Time Master Trilogy: The Initiate, The Outcast, and The Master--a more serious look at the same concept. All in all, a worthwhile read, but expect fun, not brilliance.
