Rating: Summary: my favorite NJO book (after rebel dream of course!) Review: gotta love the jaina/jag/kyp/zekk problems! my 2nd favorite NJO book, jaina finally gets some needed character development. i was really hoping that Anakin gets resurrected in this book, but it seems that it's not going to happen (curse you Troy Denning!). lots of politics, with a touch of humor and romance. love the jaina/jag angle with the whole Force-bond thing. finally a little something light.
Rating: Summary: DARK JOURNEY INDEED Review: Great Title, fits the book to a Tee. Elaine Cunningham is a great writer, she takes you into the mind of a young Jedi Knight and her experience in the Force. I couldn't put it down. Lots of Actions and Adventure. If I could give more then 5 stars I would.
Rating: Summary: Not in Star Wars Anymore Review: Normally I don't write a review to any book I read, but I feel I must express my outrage for what the authors are doing to the Star Wars story. First they kill off Chewie, which in itself is an outrage, but I continued to read the series feeling that it would have to redeem itself in some way. However, to the contrary, it has progressively gotten worse. ...Then to have Jaina struggling with the dark side, ridiculous. The plot in this book was small and not very well written. The only redeeming point for this book is the further knowledge of the YV technology. This is my last NJO book. I have no further interest in seeing how the next ...[book] will decide to destroy the real SW saga.
Rating: Summary: everybody is a dark jedi Review: 3 stars it seems to me that everyone is turning into a dark jedi. I think for once the expanded universe has really draged the topic into the mud in the NJO series. [main topic: The YV are unbeatable even when they lose the win,The Jedi are running off to fight or not fight the vong in their own way ingoring Luke Skywalker,The new Republic dose not wish to fight back, and finaly once in a while a good guy we love has to die.] The good points: It is short enough that you will be able to enjoy it. It seems to solve some problems and may(hints)lead to the Jedi accutally start doing something. Has some hint and playing that jania is growing into a woman Jania is using her skill at building to combat the vong(people forget that the jedi solo's had more ablitity with diffrent things {animals, building things ,makeing machines work} The Bad points: The book did not really go anywhere As I metion before we are tired of the dark Jedi's Summary of book: To not spoil it I will make it short: jania escapes the vong in a stolen vong ship. after the pain that ankins death causes her and his friends they head to a safe haven little did they know it was already taken by the vong,so they flee to the happen cluster.she deals with many problems such as her turning to the dark side;a former dark jedi Kyp;the former hapen queen ploting regaining control of hapes using jania;and falling in love. Comments: You should read this book not only because your a Star Wars fan,but because (in my opinion) it will lead to new horizones in the NJO.
Rating: Summary: Not good at all Review: This book [was not very good]. The writing was atrocious and the action left a lot to be desired. I read this book hoping Anakin would be brought back to life because he is by far my favorite character. However, I was greatly disappointed not only by the fact that he is truly dead, but also because his funeral was really [bad]. Elaine Cunningham could and should have done a much better job on the final farewell of the hero of the series thus far. My new favorite character, Jacen, might be dead, leaving me grasping for characters to look forward to reading about. Hopefully, the next book will jump ahead about fifteen years so that Ben Skywalker can become the new hero and saviour of the galaxy like his father before him. Otherwise, I see no reason to continue reading this series.
Rating: Summary: Good story idea, some disappointments.... Review: The plot was well developed and created a lot of room to really exploit the emotions of the reader, unfortunately those opportunities were more often then not left unexploited. It was a fun story but compared to authors like Stackpole it was a little hard to read. The basic flow of the book was just a bit bumpy sometimes leaving the reader unclear about the authors intended direction/meaning.. It was not a bad book by any means, I enjoyed it, but felt it could have really scored big with Jania and the trickster idea, it just didn't follow through... Joe Roy
Rating: Summary: Almost a great book Review: Loved the action - wish the Chis would show up more - they're tough enough to fight the mysterious foes from the unknown regions so let them kick some YV butt! Jaina was great as a schizoid. Have to say though, that the hole left by you-know-who's death is annoying - just after YKW had bonded with another Jedi like Qui Gon and Tahl - guess it's just the way it goes in the Expanded Universe. Yeah, decent enough and short enough to stay with.
Rating: Summary: Best of newer Star Wars' novels Review: Looking forward to next read by Cunningham. Jaina Solo presents a real and powerful female hero struggling to keep her soul in tact. Also enjoyed time-travel novel Damsel in rough by Tempesta. [Better] than expected.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Money Makin' Mill Review: I can't believe I keep buying this series. It's dark and depressing. There's no vision or hope for the future, just a refusal to quit trying. Very little actually happens in any of these books. Most of the time in each novel seems to be spent dealing with postmodern relativistic internal angst by people who are so morally confused that they can't even figure out the proper way to respond to total destruction by the Vong. An evil invader is destroying the entire galaxy and it takes several volumes to even figure out if it's OK to take aggressive action to save civilization as they know it. In this addition, Jaina turns to the dark side and back again with little more effort than getting over a snit. This volume is better than most of the series but really isn't worth the time it took to read it. Am I the only reader who has trouble with what the Vong are able to accoplish through bioengineering (shaping)?
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT!!!!! Review: When I bought this book, I thought I was in for some really depressing material, but it turns out it's a really good book! I wouldn't recommend it for Luke and Mara fans, but I thought it was good for NJO readers to see a little bit more of Jaina Solo. I love the plot in this book! I agree with other reviewers in that everything Jaina did seemed natural, but surreal at the same time. I was worried about her but hopefully she's learned enough about the Dark Side to keep her from slipping again. This book is guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats. My advice: READ THIS BOOK!!!!! Congratulations to Elaine Cunningham on her wonderful piece of work!!!!!
