Summary: This new installment of the NJO series take a different view
Review: Dark Journey, the newest book in the NJO series, is different than the others in this series. Unlike the previous books, and especially unlike the most recent books, "Dark Journey" deals mainly not with the ongoing 'Vong invasion as much as it deals with the internal conflict of Jaina Solo. With their daring escape off of the worldship above Myrkr, the Jedi under Jaina's command return with Anakin dead, another Jedi kidnapped, and Jacen captured by the Vong. Further along in the story, Jacen is presumed dead, but not everyone is so sure. With the "deaths" of her siblings, Jaina is sucked into the dark side and takes a temporary apprenticeship with Kyp Durron. They story then takes them to the Hapes system, where a scheming ex-Queen Mother has her own plans for Jaina. The Dark Journey takes you through the ordeals of Jaina Solo and how she deals with the Dark side and her own destiny. While it contains less action then previous NJO books, this installment continues this ongoing saga excellently.

Summary: Author needs to compare notes more
Review: The main storyline about Jaina going to the darkside didn't bother me. What bothered me was the author being inconsistant with details. I'm about to get really nit picky...the opening battle scene doesn't match anything Troy Denning wrote in Star by Star. The Jedi were to rendevous with the Errant Venture (which everyone on the Falcon knew that was where Ben was), not going to any planet they could make it to. Kyp felt Jacen die (sorry to spoil it), so you would think that he would have felt Anakin die, also. If not, he should have heard rumors because the New Republic people did. It seems to point out in Star/Star that Jaina is 19, but in this book the author keeps referring to her as 18. She also makes a reference about Tenel Ka having two hands when we all know she only has one. Mara just disappears; the strike team Jedi were suppose to leave with Luke, but end up leaving with Han and Leia; Lowie just disappears also; and the ending seems to be rushed: there is no mention about the battle ending before everyone decides to make the next move for themselves, it sounds like the battle is still going on when the book ends. I relize that this was probably being wrote at the same time as Star/Star, but the authors are suppose to check with one another. Not only that, but how did some of that stuff get pass the proof reading?

Summary: A wonderful read, well worth the wait
Review: Finaly, a book dedicated to Jaina, and focused on her side of the story. After the death of her younger brother Anakin, Jaina solo is consumed by her grief, but refuses to cry in front of others. The shield that she builds around her heart stops the people who care about her from understanding the way she is grieving. Characters such as Kyp Durron, Jag Fel and Zekk, return to her and try to help her though her pain, but she still refuses to take the warnings from her friends about the dark-side and how consuming and overpowering it is. Tearing away from those who love her, she embarks upon a journey so dark and so powerful that her family and her friends may not be willing to stand by her.
Not only is this a great book, but it reads very well. I couldn't put it down! I had to find out what happened next. There are many surprising turns that made me laugh and cry. In this book Jaina is brought into a light that she has nerver been seen before. The relationships and the connections she has made through the course of her life play a great part up in the book.
My advice is to read Dark Journey and to enjoy every moment of it, because a good book like this doesn't come around very often.

Summary: Why?
Review: I was deeply saddned when I read in Star by Star that one of my favorite jedi had fallen. Anankin was an important characture to the books and I found him to be fiesty and sweet, and then to find out that Jacen has also been finished by the aliens in this book is a total travisty. I enjoyed Jacen just as much as his brother. And I don't like the turn that Jaina has taken. But after everything that she has been through you can sort of understand. I am anxious to see where it goes from here, will they be able to recover Jacen so that Leia can come to terms with this death? I gave it 4 stars because even though its tough to accept there has to be a purpose to this logic and the writing is intriging. I enjoyed this book in a way because it was addictive.

Summary: Awesome!!!!!
Review: This is a great addition to the Star Wars: New Jedi Orders series. Ms Cunningham spins a great tale of battle, intrigue and romance. Taking up right after Star by Star left off we follow Jaina Solo to the Hapes cluster and her subsequent campaign against the Vong. Included are Anakin's funeral, Jacen is killed...or is he? and sparks fly between Jaina and Kyp Durron. Throw in Prince Isildur, a hijacked Yuuzhon Vong frigate and the treacherous political dealings of the High Court of Hapes and it's a rollicking tale well worth owning.

Summary: Finally a completely satisfying NJO novel!
Review: Jaina becomes the lead jedi after the fall of her siblings and treads the dark side. Deciding to take the fight to the Vong rather than being a jedi pacifist, she takes on unexpected allies and action. Features the surviving stars from the YJK series, Lowbacca and Tenel Ka, plus Kyp Durron, Jag Fel, Han Solo and the Princess all seek shelter on the Hapes Cluster after the fall of Coruscant. Refugees overcrowd the system and the presence of Jaina make the Hapes Cluster the next target in the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. Great writing, with exciting new developments in many of these characters, plus some great space battles, a little lightsaber action and a good ending make this a very satisfying read compared to the so far mostly upsetting NJO series.

Summary: A Teen's Opinion
Review: This book was one of the best Star Wars (New Jedi Order) books I've read. Each chapter is designed in a format that leaves you wanting to see what happens next. As you probably know, Dark Journey focuses on Jaina Solo, this is defiantly a book that left me spellbound. I didn't expect the things that happened, but when they did I enjoyed the feeling of being mystified. Elaine is an excellent author and I sincerely hope she adds more to the SW universe. She has a talent for displaying emotions and making you think you know what's gonna happen next until she does the exact opposite! VERY good book and I HIGHlY recommend it for all readers!! Now my rating is my opinion, I read A LOT, and I LOVE star wars. Please do not think that just because I loved it means you'll love it. Everyone's opinion varies. Thank-you for the attention you've given my thoughts on this book:-)

Summary: Can she escape the dark side?
Review: Elaine Cunningham is the perfect author for this book. She has already wrote one book about escaping the dark side. "Daughter of the Drow" is one of my favorite books. Cunningham is once again deciding the fate of a powerful female character. Jaina Solo is my favorite Solo child and the one I thought least likely to go down that dark path. I guess the Yuuzhan Vong bring the worst out of jedi. As expected, Cunningham keeps the old characters in character and introduces new characters that will surely play larger roles in the next additions to the series. My advise is to buy this book and perhap get other Cunningham books. She really is the premier author of strong female characters.

I will let other reviewers spoil the action, steal the climax, and destroy the ending. Does Jaina Sole escape the dark side?
Get the book and in 300+ delightful pages you will have the answer.
