Summary: An must-read for Riftwar fans
Review: A continuation of the world developed in the Riftwar Saga, Feist uses this book to tell the tale of the young prince Nicholas, third in line for the rown of Krondor. Before he can rule as a noble of the Realm, Nicholas must first overcome his own inner demons in the form of a lame foot and the pressure of being the youngest son.

An excellent read in keeping with Feist's masterful world of high fantasy!

Summary: Could it be the best of the best?
Review: Actually, I would rate this book a 10 1/2 out of the Feist Midkemia series. AS with many other readers of the series, this book was my favorite, for Feist does a wonderful job with the metamorphosis of Nicholas from a petulant boy-prince to a man who comes to rule the sea in later stories. The involvement and depth of development in this story amazes me as well, for in it Feist lays the groundwork for his latest series, the Serpent War Saga

Summary: A great swashbuckling adveture. Not his best, but close
Review: After the first two pages of the Riftwar saga I was hooked. I quickly developed what I can only think of now as an obsession and finished the four book saga in week. The first two books were by far the best. I was engrossed by the magnificent idea of a boy forced to become a magician who despite his apprehensions becomes one of the greatest magicians the world(that is the fantasy world) has ever known. The saga is a must for all fantasy fans.

I was thirsty for more and so I decided to read Feist's next book Prince of the Blood. It was horrible. No it was worse then horrible it was so bad I wanted to burn it (for those of you who are appalled and rightly so fear not the feeling only lasted for a short time I would of course never actually burn a book no matter how bad it was)

A month later I decided Magician was good enough that I would give Feist another try despite Prince of the Blood, so I purchased The King's Buccaneer. I loved It. I couldn't put it down. I feigned sickness so I could stay home and read. If you are a fantasy fan you have to read this book and if you are not a fantasy fan read this book anyway.

While it is not quite as good as Magician it is close. So read the Riftwar Saga and love it. Then skip the Prince of Blood and don't give it a second thought not even for a milisecond. But whatever you do don't miss this great adventure.

Summary: Not Quite up to his usual standards
Review: Although the King's Buccaneer had some of Feists usual magic and conflict, I found that half way through it was hard to keep on reading. Things slowed down much more than in the former novels in the series. It seemed as if this novel was written to try to tie the series together, but didn't work to well. It still deserves four stars though, not his best work, but still a good novel.

Summary: A Superior, Rousing Adventure!
Review: An entertaining tale of high-sea's adventure and exotic fantasy. Goods vs Evil. Very entertaining!

Summary: WOW what an awesome book to add to the Riftwar Saga!!!
Review: An excellent fantasy tale that is awesome in just about every way. A very involved storyline with a wide variety of characters, old and new, to add brilliant colors to this book. Recommended for those who like adventure!

Summary: A Fantasy For Boys
Review: As a woman this novel left a bad taste in my mouth. A lot of women, and men, claim that fantasy novels as a whole are sexist. I disagree for the most part, but this book... well.. let's just say that its premise, in a nutshell, is that a bunch of clueless macho idiots get to dress up in kewl pirate costumes to save a ship full of naked women. I'm not making this up! To Feist's credit, the women, for the most part, are strong, intelligent, and pragmatic. Unfortunately these qualities are wasted since the plucky lasses do very little other that fend off rapists and make fruitless escape attempts. Mostly in the buff. What irks me most, I suppose, is that the heroes have far less regard for their women than the villians do. If this review makes you want to read more, by all means buy it. But if your the type of person who rolls his eyes at bikini laden beer commercials, you might want to pass for something a little more mature. Which would be anything.

Summary: Best Feist book I've ever read
Review: Feist wrote the Riftwar saga with the detail and the precision of a master. His Krondor trilogy is a bit pathetic, but only because it is obvious he wrote the video games first before the books. The Serpent War Saga started off wonderful, but ended weak. But the King's Buccaneer takes the best of Riftwar, and the best of Serpent War, and combines them into one novel. You have believable and awe-inspiring magic, combined with the rough militeristic and realistic life of mecenaries and pirates. Truely my favorite book from Feist, I recommend reading this after Riftwar, but you don't need to read Serpent War to enjoy this classic.
