Rating: Summary: Not her best work Review: I am truly disapointed. I had been expecting a master piece from this book the moment I laid my eyes on it, I am a big Anne Bishop fan, her books are usually detailed to the point that you find your self in them, this one was a dissapoint. She seemed to hurry on this book, she normally pours her heart into it, this time she didnt. Weak plot, not origimal mais character. If you really want a Master Piece from this author try The Black Jewels trilogy, now THAT is a master piece.
Rating: Summary: Another great read... Review: I confess to loving Anne Bishop's work. Stumbled upon her Jewel trilogy about the time the last one came out. Finished the trilogy and waited impatiently for this one. A completely different story set in the same world of the Jewel trilogy. Not quite as dark as the trilogy, but I still devoured it in one night. A must for Anne Bishop fans. An excellent introduction to the trilogy for new readers of Bishop's work.
Rating: Summary: not great, but definitely good Review: I enjoyed this book. I guess i wanted to start off with that. But in many ways, it lacked what i call the "dark appeal" the trilogy did. If you go in expecting it, you're bound to be a little disappointed. The characters are mostly "normal" blood, or what the blood who don't wear darker jewels are like. The plot line was not as complicated, or intricate. I did miss that. I did however enjoy the look at the world before Dorothea got her claws fully embedded into the entire realm, and we got the explantion of where Janaelle's spell at the end of the trilogy came from, which i was feeling rather confused about. All in all, not perhaps the best of her books, but certainly a good one worth reading and buying.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Long live the Gray Lady! Review: I had never heard of the author and had heard nothing about the book, but I am Very Happy that I picked it up! It was a wonderful read with great characters. Now that I've read this one, i'm going to buy the Black Jewel Trilogy and read it. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because it wasn't a long enough read, I finished it in two days.
Rating: Summary: Anne Bishop Review: I love all of the anne bishop blood books as well as her pillar of the world I think this book is a great intro for people who don't quite understand the inner workings of the society. I like the concepts of the invisible ring and what they stand for, I wished that it was stressed a little more in the book but it worked. Also it gives a better understanding of the virgin night and how it works, i like the description of the mental process. Overall its a great book, if you have read the black jewel and want to understand their world even more then read this one.
Rating: Summary: Different from the black jewels, but just as good! Review: I loved this book. From the time I started it until the time I put it down, I was drawn into its web.The book takes place before Jaenelle's birth (and the Black Jewels trilogy) yet after Tersa's promise of Witch's coming. It is the story of the witch and warlord who first devised the style of web described in the Queen of the Darkness. The web Daemon remembered from his past. This book had a nice appearance from Daemon Sadi, mentions of other characters from the Black Jewels triology. It was also a wonderful story. It came from the point of view of the "normal" Blood of the land. These Blood do not all wear dark jewels, do not know if Kaeleer and Hell exist, do not know Witch is coming. It tells of the final Queen who resists Dorothea's taint in Tereille. Plus, it gives some nice background on the culture of the Blood. Once again, Ms. Bishop has created a spellbinding story with wonderful characters who you love to love and love to hate.
Rating: Summary: Excellent dark fantasy! Review: I read the Black Jewels trilogy when it first came out and thought it was about the best thing I'd read in a long time. Now Ms. Bishop comes out with The Invisible Ring, a story set in the same world as the trilogy, but hundreds of years before. What some of the other reviews have suggested is that the characters weren't as well developed and they felt a bit "let down". Keep in mind that this is a *standalone* book and so Ms. Bishop did not have 3 books to develop characters. Also, only 2 of the same characters from the trilogy show up in Ring, and I think some were expecting something along the same thing. Don't listen to them! This book takes place essentially over a few weeks or months, NOT many years as the trilogy. Others have already written about the plot, so I won't go into that here. Ms. Bishop has a website that has an excerpt of The Invisible Ring posted, so I suggest that you go read that for yourself!...
Rating: Summary: Mesmerizing Review: I started this book yesterday at about 6:00 pm. I only put it down at 1:30 in the morning because I knew that I had to wake up early the next morning. I finished it by noon this afternoon. I have to say that this book CLEARLY displays Miss Bishop's ability to create emotional bonds that tie the reader to the characters, their experiences, and the manipulation surrounding them. Essentially, this book is awesome and you should all go and get it! ;-P Thanks for reading! ;)
Rating: Summary: prequel to Dark Jewels Review: I would like to give this five stars because it's Anne Bishop, but I have to agree with everyone else in saying it's not as good as Dark Jewels. It's not really the book's fault, though; it's just easier to develop characters more fully over the course of three books. I read this book after Dark Jewels and found it really helped me to understand Daemon more. Yes, Daemon is the Sadist in Daughter of the Blood, but the cruelty and terror he invokes is somewhat lessened when he loses himself in the Twisted Kingdom. Then he just becomes lovable. This book really helped me see just how much Jaenelle tamed him - well, not really "tamed" because it's Daemon, but how much she meant to him. 'I' even got slightly scared of the Sadist in the Invisible Ring, and I'm all for whatever Daemon does. That said, this was still a good book aside from Daemon. Though Lia wasn't Jaenelle (Witch, to be precise), she was still a very strong, lovable, and funny character. And Jared was also a very good character, taking on some of Daemon's characteristics as his almost protege - which is most definately a plus. Anne Bishop's humor was continually present alongside the darkness, and this book definately helped me understand the role of queens and rules among the Blood better. I would definately recommend this to every Dark Jewels fan.
Rating: Summary: *sniff* Review: I would rate this book 4 1/2 stars but i cant. I really loved this book...however, I thought the ending should've had more though. It was well written and I TOTALLY agree with the bottom review.
