Rating: Summary: A truely great book. Review: A book by two of the best authors. This is like a really super good tales book and it is just awesome. I don't know what else to say. This is one of those book that i'd like to call the best book i've already read, but I've said that about a lot of books -- the chronicles, this one, dragons of summer flame, dragons of a lost star, and kindred spirits. Just buy it.
Rating: Summary: At last Review: A great book. For those of us who have missed the skilled hands in these stories we are not dissappointed. It is good to be back on Kryn.
Rating: Summary: Weis & Hickman revisit the Dragonlance universe! Review: For those of you who don't already know this (like me before I actually sat down and read it), this book is actually five short stories. They are loosely tied together and told in chronological order. They are basically designed to introduce the reader to the offspring of the Heroes of the Lance. These new characters play prominent roles in Weis and Hickman's DRAGONS OF SUMMER FLAME.The first story is KITIARA'S SON. It tells the story of...umm...well...Kitiara's son. I won't tell you who the father is since that's one of the surprises of the story (I guarantee you will never guess this one!). In it, Weis and Hickman explore some of their favorite themes: love, honor, and duty. It is a very intriguing story and very well written. LEGACY tells the story of Caramon and Tika's son Palin. We are also introduced to two of his other sons, Tanin and Sturm. Another classic tale from these two founders of the Dragonlance world. We again see the brilliant characterization and character interaction that made the CHRONICLES and LEGENDS trilogies so great to read. We get a better look at the interaction between Caramon's three sons in WANNA BET? We get to see Weis and Hickman's classic humor once again in this story (albeit, without a glimpse of a kender's topknot). The situations these three men get themselves into despite their best efforts made me laugh out loud. RAISTLIN'S DAUGHTER regales us with a legend circulating in the land of Krynn, the unbelievable story that Raistlin fathered a child. This story introduces new characters that play very important roles in DRAGONS OF SUMMER FLAME. I was kind of disappointed in this story. The characters just didn't seem as vivid as in the others. The story was interesting, but it just didn't seem to come alive for me. The last story involves Tanis and his son Gilthas. It is an emotionally charged story of elven political intrigue. Weis and Hickman again nail their characterization with this story. The elven politician that played a pivotal role was excellently drawn, although I would have liked a bit more insight as to his motivations. All in all, I enjoyed this book. It's not required reading if you're going to pick up DRAGONS OF SUMMER FLAME, but it will give you a better understanding of the characters. Weis and Hickman definitely still have what it takes to spin a good Dragonlance tale.
Rating: Summary: second generation Review: i am an avid dragolance reader, but this book was not what it was suposed to be. it made me think it was going to be a novel but it turnd out to be a colletion of short stories that were not even good. i would say pass on this one and go on to the caos war
Rating: Summary: dumb two stories Review: I didn't like the last story. Gilthas seems to be a kind of idiotic senseless non-curious ignorant little brat. For the sake of future stories, I won't expand on how stupid. I liked all the stories, but I felt a little disappointed about the difficulty of the Test in the Legacy. It just didn't seem quite as life-threatening as Raistlin's Test. Supposedly Palin is as talented as Raistlin.
Rating: Summary: Decent, but not great. Review: I enjoyed reading about Steel's background, which is a good story. The Gilthas story is ok, but seems a little over the top to me. I agree with the general consensus that it isn't Weis & Hickman's best work by any means, but it's not bad either.
Do not read the excerpt from Summer Flame if you intend to read that book! That story is best left to read in Summer Flame. I made the mistake of reading it beforehand and kind of wish I hadn't.
Rating: Summary: A Good Bridge Into Dragons of Summer Flame Review: I enjoyed this book a lot. I strongly disagree with the notion that "Wanna Bet" is not a good story. It does not portray dwarves in a silly manner. Rather it Portrays the god Reorx as the selfish god that he is. This book also introduces us to Palin, son of Caramon and Tika, and his test at the tower. It also goes on to explore the stories of many of the other hero's children. Very well done and a perfect selection of stories for any Dragonlance fan who is about to set foot in the book Dragon's of Summer Flame.
Rating: Summary: The stories were good Review: I gave this 4 stars because of the fact that most of the stories had already been written and introduced to us in earlier novels... however the few new stories were great, but not excellent. If you're coming off a haitus, then please pick this up so you can get familiar with the new heroes... I bought it just for the new stories and I'll say that it is easier to have all the stories in one binding... rather than search through three or four others... Do I still recommend this? Yes... just keep in mind if you've followed every DL publication, you've already read most of these stories... but it is still nice to reread and get a "new" feel for the characters.
Rating: Summary: disappointing. not terrible though Review: i happen to think it was a interesting thought for Weis and Hickman to give the origional characters children to take their places in their steads as the origional characters got older and would eventually have to pass on. In fact i have to say i happen to be pretty fond of all the new warriors, ranging from Steel Brightblade to Palin Majere the white robe. I cant stress enough though as much as i regret it and as much as i love and admire the 2 authors for creating the first 3 books in DL Chronicles, all of the DL Legends, the Raistlin Chronicles, and the Magic of Krynn. I have to say its begining to show now that they are starting to loose their touch with krynn and for that matter keeping a great story continue on in this books defense i LOVE The Legacy! but i think it fits better in The Magic of Krynn, basically since its the last story in that book and it goes with the theme for the rest of the book, which is tales of all the legends of krynn. All in all i believe the Legacy was made for that book, and though it makes sense for it to be in this book id just prefer it in the other one more. definently 5 stars another good tale but definently short of perfection is the Sacrafice. Dalamar is a good addition to the story, he always brings a certain goodness to the story that makes it interesting, even if he doesnt really attend to. Tanis's son Gil seems to be a reasonable character and i love adding him on to the DL team, but the story itself is a little rushed, some parts are just to outrageously unrealistic for a short story like this, and everything could of been explained better. id give this individual story by itself 4 stars the final good story would be Kitiaras son. Weis and Hickman did a nice job making Steel come to existance and i admit it was a heart moving tale, expecially when after all the events they went through steel makes his final choice... this story too gets 4 stars. the rest of the stories, from raistlins daughter to wanna bet? are just 2 stars. i was not fond of raistlins daughter, particulary cause it was a legend, and i dont remember Raist ever taking his test during winter? and Wanna Bet was really not that good once you read the whole thing, admitenly i was entertained at first, but when the tribal people complained about having to do womens chores i began to see lame elements slip into the story. and palin was coming to the conclusions of the true power of the greygem to fast! there was no time for mystery or for them to have realization, i also thought making Reourx forger of the world into a stupid gambling ubsessed dwarf was a horrid idea. But in the end of things the Second Generation of the heros of the lance prove themselfs worthy of the title they are born to have. its a shame though they will never have another chance to shine and tell their other tales though, to me anyways that is. Im retiring from continuing on my DL adventures because i refuse to move on to Dragons of Summer Flame ( not that it sounds bad, it sounds pretty good actually ) i just dont want to see the characters i love have to finally die in a new war facing a new god i have never heard of! and to have my favorite character Raistlin have to make another appearence, when all the poor guy wants to do now is rest after his cruel life, pisses me off! so good luck to you all who continue to travel the newly paved paths of krynn while i remain with all my favorite ones i love and keep rereading them in order and retracing my steps one page at a time.
Rating: Summary: Ok, but dissapointing Review: I loved the original Dragonlance series. The characters were great and the plots were very well written. Those characters seemed like real people. They had problems, but were able to become heroes anyway. Their children, apparently, haven't inherited these characteristics. Only Kitiara and Sturm's son seems to have potential. Caramon's son, Palin, could, but the rest seemed shallow and just there to fill a role. If Raistlin's daughter exists, it seems that she would be interesting, but that's as far as anything goes. The only really part of this book that got really interesting was the last part. And it was just getting interesting because it was focusing on the characters from other books (Tanis and Dalamar). I don't know how this compares to other books dealing with these characters. I hope they are better. The reason I gave this 3 stars was because Weiss and Hickman are able to write an interesting story (even though it seems like the only insult they can write is to call someone a 'doorknob'). If you are new to Dragonlance, read the original stories first and then the Twins trilogy.
