Rating: Summary: It's great to find out what happened after the trilogy Review: Finally, we know what happened to the heroes and villains of the trilogy after the final movie, "Return of the Jedi". Heir to the Empire takes place 5 years after the movie, as Han and Leia are married and expecting twins, Luke is becoming the first of the new Jedi, and a new, greater power is rising in the empire. This new power, Grand Admiral Thrawn is widely unknown to the New Republic (the old Rebellion), and is only known of to the higher ranked officials in the empire. He has new forces to help him, too; Admiral Palleon, and a vicious species know as the Nhogri, loyal to Darth Vader and his offspring. Thrawn is on a mission to a mountain where Emporer Palpatine is rumoured to have hidden secret weaponry and technology. On this mission, they come into contact with a crazy Jedi Master Clone, Joruus C'baoth. They take him onboard the Chimeara, Thrawn's flagship. C'baoth has heard of the Skywalkers, and that Leia is expecting twins, both strong in the force. He first tries to kill Thrawn, but finds out that his force powers are useless against Thrawn, for he has a special creature lofted on his shoulder, able of repelling the force. He then bargains with him to try to capture both Skywalker siblings. When Luke and Leia are seperated, Luke comes into contact with Talon Karrde, after barely escaping an imperial encounter. There he meets Mara Jade, who has been insrtucted to kill him at whatever the cost. By who or why, you'll have to find out for yourself, as you will what happens next. Read Zahn's trilogy, and you can read any Star Wars book after that. Trust me!
Rating: Summary: Greatest SW novel ever Review: All I can say is wow. I am a writer (ametuer) and his style is amazing. A cold and calculating villian, Thrawn, is the best leader for the empire. He doesn't like to waste his men the way Vader could, he is better than any villian I've ever seen.
Rating: Summary: It was really true to the original trilogy. Review: It was way cool ! The way Thrawn was potrayed was really interesting. He also had a certain likeness to Darth Maul. Pallenon was classic, and Luke was really interesting. C'Baoth was really twisted but he turned out okay. And the Noghri were really interesting along with Mara Jade and Talon Karrade. I was really fascinated by Thrawn's intuition, and stabibility. Timithoy Zahns Trilogy fits perfectly with the Star Wars Galaxy.
Rating: Summary: Rightful Heir Review: I can only imagine what the pressure and expectation must have been like for the author when he took on this project. However I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he has delivered on all fronts.I think the title sums up this novel perfectly. Zahn takes over right where Lucas left off. The author remains true to the central figures; albeit ageing them just a tad. All the new characters, with one exception, are superb. I particularly enjoyed the charismatic, "chess-minded" (for lack of a better term) Thrawn, who is surely second only to Vader as the greatest villain of all time. The multiple plots are cleverly executed by the author, in a manner and style that is easy to read and understand. Moreover, Zahn stays loyal to the Star Wars theme, unlike the sordid Trek approach taken by other authors in subsequent novels. Time isn't wasted with any unnecessary drivel and there are shrewd plot twists to make you "ooh and ahh" as you read. The only minor drawback is of the new lead character Mara Jade. Zahn has tried to create a personality which is a more aggressive version of Princess Leia and this simply doesn't work. After a while, it becomes difficult to take this calamitous figure seriously. And sad to say, despite a rather intriguing personal history, the character does not improve in any of Zahn's ensuing novels. But don't let this detract you from an otherwise flawless masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: A Spectacular Plot! Review: This book is a real page-turner. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. More books need to be like this one. I hope the sequels live up to this masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, a must reader! Review: This is probably the best sci-fi book I've ever read. And beleive me, I'm not a Star Wars fanatic. I often felt like I was actually there during the story! That shows how excellent of an author Timothy Zahn is. I think this is a definent must reader! Hope you enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS AMAZING Review: ALL I CAN SAY IS IT IS AN AMAZING BOO
Rating: Summary: This book really tells us why we love Star Wars. Review: Zahn out did himself here. I thought this was the best Star Wars book I've read. I like the way the charactors have evolved since Return of the Jedi, and I love the new people. My favorite is Mara Jade. I thought her hatred towards Luke was also a a great way of keeping them alive in the woods. Overall, this book rocks!
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING! DOES NOT LIVE TO THE TRILOGY! Review: I appreciated the book because of the familiar characters, but that was not enough to cover up for all the other shortcomings. The characters seemed to have lost their aura. Even Han Solo seemed to be uptight & not as funny as he used to be. The author tried to cover so many territories that a lot of loopholes were left open. For instace, he either forgot or deliberately did not include what happened to C'Baoth after being brought to Jomark. He dwelt about the cloned Jedi master but dwindled afterwards. What about the Noghris? Will they side finally with Leia? What about Mara? Has the narrow escape made her change her mind against her plot against Luke? I think, he should have covered all this & saw it to the end, isntead of making the story long but hanging.
Rating: Summary: Will satisfy your Star Wars urge but it is a little long. Review: I thought George Lucas told a much bigger and better story in Episode IV - VI than Zahn did, and in the same amount of pages! In other words, Zahn's book is good but it's pretty lengthy. I think the story could have been told in a shorter version.
