Summary: YEAH BABY,YEAH!!!!
Review: It's a perfect beginning for the Mallorean. It's sad though that Mandorallen,Hettar,Barak and Lelldorin won't be coming along. It was terrible that king Rhodar and Brand died during the story.Cool how Garion&co wiped out the Cult of the Bear(at last). If i could i would give this book 10.000 stars, but i can't so five will do for now.

Summary: Strictly Diet Fantasy
Review: As a Tad Williams fan who appreciates a realistic 80% mortality rate among the heroes, formidable villains, dense plotting and haunting settings, Eddings 'Mallorean' reads like a happy romp through a schoolyard on a spring day. Eddings' narrative devotes multiple pages to building up various baddies, who are then dispatched in the space of one when encountered by omnipotent heroes. Very shortly anything the villains say sounds trite and inconsequential, however threatening. The entire series should have 'Suspense Free!' stamped on it.

Summary: Very well written.
Review: I see nothing wrong with Eddings Belgariad and Mallorea books. From the man that in my mind pioneered the Fantasy genere, and maybe even gave way to books like "Wheel of Time" by Robert Jordan and "Sword of Truth" by Terry Goodkind. I for one was esctatic about the revisit of old characters, especially Silk, who is by far my most favorite. Keep in mind, that these books were the product of the 80's, and modern 90's fantasy writing was still in the works, but in my opinion, Eddings was way ahead of his time.

Summary: My Favorites!
Review: I orignally got this book, plus King of Murgos and Demon Lord of Karadas as a Christmas present years ago, shortly after book 3 was released in paperback. Once I started reading, it was instand magic. I finished the three books, and started over again, I couldn't get enough of it. Human characters, that are serious, but have a dash of humor. Not enough to be a comedy, but enough so that it isn't just dull and serious all the time. Now, I pretty much compare all the fantasy books I read to Mr. Eddings style. I love it

Summary: why fight it, the man's good!!
Review: WHy fight it? The man is good! After what seemed to be a final phase in the history of Garion and companions, David Eddings had managed to come up with some good stuff. Taking what was given in the first series, he has expanded and created a broader world for us to play in. What I particularly enjoyed was the way Garion was feeling around with this will.Suffering tutelage under his grandfather and Polgara is a task I can only eny. What riles me is the complete dismissal other reviewers have given the book, and the series. I found it enchanting the way he has explored new themes in the Codex and imported some of the Grolim ideologies into the plot, placing the reader into context as to what is really going on. Granted this book is a bit nerve-wrecking with its meandering plot as to who is the bad guys and what a surprise when we discover Zandramas is a woman! Go girlfriend! What I would have prefered is a direct confrontation between Polgara and Zandramas right there and now, but suppose that all writers have their idiosyncrasies that all devotees have to deal with. It was a bit painful that the normal set of heroes could not accompany Garion on his latest quest, but then it provided an avenue for David to explore and import new characters. Barak and Hettar would simply not have worked later on in the series. The are to impesteous to be roaming free in Mallorea. The addition of the Seeres of Kell was fresh and exciting, though she has worked on my nerves for a while. I love this book, and I am not ashamed to say that I have collected all the books this man has ever published. Long Live David Eddings... and his wife. Thanks

Summary: More than worth while!!!
Review: having read both the Belgariad and the Mallorean, also Belgarath the Sorcerer, and Polgara the Sorceress, several times, I must say that I love every one! For those that do not appreciate Mr. and Mrs. Eddings presentation, there are plenty of other authors out there, read those that please you. I found ALL of their books in these two series to be entertaining, and in a way, very like the Star Wars books, including those in the "X-wing" series. Not that they are the same in type, or content, certainly, but that once you pick up the books, and begin to know and attach to the characters, you just can't get enough of their stories. Each time I come to the end of these two series, I find myself wishing that the stories just didn't end there! KUDOS!--David and Leigh Eddings, your work is GREAT!

Summary: somebody please put a bullet in this
Review: Please Mr. Eddings, toss that typewriter out of the window...your childish musings are annoying at best, and a great blemish on the genre at worst. Cookie cutter plots, characters, and situations populate this book, and every other that follows it.

This book deserves little more than a good roasting on a spit...it's that bad.

Summary: Unnecessary
Review: This book is completely unnecessary. After you've read it, pick up the second book and read the short summary of the first book found therein. Notice how it covers absolutely everything of interest in the first book. Ponder how 500 pages can be distilled into 5 pages without leaving anything out. Conclude that, in the first book, nothing much really happened.

I'm not saying you won't enjoy this book. It's a quick read and perfectly pleasant. If you liked his previous books you'll probably like this one. It's just that the book is 5 pages of plot and 495 pages of filler. That's the price you pay for having a short novel expanded to 5 volumes.

Summary: Addicted
Review: Although I prefered the Belgariad series, I still have to read the rest. I find it strange how how little every one else has changed compared to Eriond. He's like a kid who's grown up while your back was turned. The book was still fantastic and I'm glad I stumbled across them. It would have been hard to follow without reading the Belgariad. I can't wait to finish the series to see what happens!
