Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: This is by far the best book of the series. What I still can't believe is how Richard could turn on Kahlan like that. Yet Goodkind weaves a wonderful story, and Soul of the Fire manages to create new areas of imgination for loyal sword of truth readers to explore. Let's just hope that Richard can find the same love in his new flame that he did with Kahlan.
Rating: Summary: great series Review: The series is great! i don't know how those other reader's think it's bad. It is "original" , contrary to their thoughts. Goodkind came up with a genius new magic system of additive and subtractive. i don't see Jordan using that. I think he surpasses alot of authors and is one of the best.
Rating: Summary: How? Review a book that hasn't been writte? Review: Just a few thoughts on the comparison (& copying) of Jordan and Goodkind. I have read both series as far as they have gone, several times. Although there are natural similarties (ie. epic fantasy), I don't see ANY signs of copying. While Jordan has created a world and a drama that he is struggling to sustain, Goodkind took a different tack. ACTION! NEVER have I been swept up in such consistent and non-stop action. The whole series rocks!
Rating: Summary: A surprising series that really grew on me Review: I started reading "The Sword of Truth" series after I finished "The Path of Daggers" by Robert Jordan. Because of this I probably did what a number of fans like myself have also done . I compared the two stories very closely, and at first I found Goodkind to be seriously lacking in writing skills and originality. I read on anyway, since I had all four current books in my possession. A gift from my girlfriend's mother, a marvelous woman who shares my obsession with fantasy.I'm glad I continued. At first I was not deeply impressed with Terry's writing style, but I noticed something I thought was kind of strange. The first volume of the series seemed to be a warmup volume for him; He appeared to be working out his style in print. At the beginning his writing was slightly wooden, and his timing and phrasing just didn't seem very smooth. As he went along, though, he seemed to find his stride, and by the second volume I found his writing to be very enjoyable. He wrote some passages that made me cringe because of their gruesome realism, quite a feat with the written word. He made me care for the main characters. Even though the hero and heroine may seem a touch too goody-goody, he managed to bring out their human shortcomings, and I found myself at times pulling for them to do the right things, rather than yield to the various temptations tossed in front of them. I have gotten over the urge to compare every fantasy novel to the Wheel of Time series, but I have noticed one annoying similarity between the two of them. There is no end in sight for either one of the series. (AAAHHHHHH!!!!!) I thought the story was complete when I started it. I might not have read it had I known differently. Oh well. It's kind of like the pain of holding an agiel in your hand! It hurts like hell, but you find you just seem to keep doing it. Carry on, Mr Goodkind!
Rating: Summary: Similarities? Review: If I may... I, personally, haev never read any of Jordan's books. Though they're on my list of ones to check out. So I wouldn't know of any similarities between the two. What I do know is that I enjoy Gookind's books thoroughly, and that alone should be enough to say they're not totally bad. As for the whole similarities thing... Even Picasso, great artist that he was, used the work of a fellow artist for ideas. Matise... or soemthing like that. forget the name. Either way, his works were beautiful and fullfilling, despite glaring similarities significant enough that some museum saw fit to make a display solely about the similarities. That could be part of it-one great mind taking an idea sprung from another great mind and shaping it to fit their own ideas and make it their own work. Coincidentally, the copy often turns out as good as or better than the original, and vice versa. And in this world, with so many books and ideas all over, it's tough to find soemthing truly, completely original. The usual safeguard is that only one person with said ideas and plots will carry them out well enough to become well-known for it. The thing that screwed them over in this case was the fact that both authors are well-known, so the similarities are more apparent. Either way, Goodkind's books are wonderful, and I'll be sure to get this newest addition to a great series.
Rating: Summary: Damn good! Review: Don't think that you could read Jordan and Goodkind and like both? I severly disagree. I read Goodkind and Jordan both, and only after i read the reviews here did I even THINK about similarities between the books. If you want to buy either tWoT or SoT, don't worry. They're BOTH GOOD! Goodkind has a totally different style of writing and his books get better as he writes them. I wish I could say the same for Jordan (Crown of Swords, Path of Daggers, ahem, ahem...) Good luck on Soul of Fire Terry!
Rating: Summary: GOOD STUFF HERE!!! Review: Well as far as the "Goodkind copying Jordan" stuff goes all I have to say is this: JORDAN IS BORING!!! I mean he writes for like several chapters where his characters do nothing but talk, or walk, or some other mundane stuff! ACTION and a good story are what drive me and keep me turning pages and Jordan to me just doesn't supply enough of either. On the other hand I've absolutly fallen in love with Goodkind's characters, his world, and his gritty, epic style of writing! Goodkind has proven himself as a extremly talented fantasy writer! Keep it up Terry!!
Rating: Summary: This is great! Review: look I don't care whether it's a "copy" or not....this series is excellent....the whole set travel down various routes and you never know where the next book will take you....I found total enjoyment in all of them...in fact I definietly couldn't put the books down....they held me spellbound *laughs*....The depth of the characters works....unlike other series I have read ....you can read the middle book without feeling like you've come in half way through the movie.....which is great if you only want to read one book.....but I think once you have read one you will be hooked....and become a avid "goodkind fan" Can't wait for the next one to get here....please let the saga continue..
Rating: Summary: Excellent. I read it in less than two days. Review: I enjoyed his series tremendously and anxiously await the printing of the fifth book. I tried to read Jordan but found his book unappealing and it did not hold my interest even in the first few pages. However, when I began with Goodkind's series I read all four that had been published in less than two weeks. NOW when a book catches and holds your interest as well as that, I call that excellent and extremely well written as well as awesome. I have become a fan of his and await the release of the next. When this series is finished I will look forward to the next. As for Jordan, I did not find his book interesting and will not purchase the next. To each his own. However, for me it will now and always be: TERRY GOODKIND! He has an awesome imagination and when I read the books, I felt like I could actually see the images he was writing about.
Rating: Summary: I can't wait for the 5th book! Review: I came into reading Mr. Goodkind's first novel, Wizard's First Rule, by chance. I happened to walk pass a bookstore and decided that I should get the thickest fantasy book there. I could not stop reading this book until I finished the entire book. I went out to get the rest of the books in the series immediately. I was then persuaded to read Jordan's Wheel of Time. I read the first volume. Well, it is good, but not as addicting as Goodkind's. Please stop accussing him of copying Jordan's books.
