Summary: Excellent "fantasy" series
Review: I have read many of the reviews of both Jordan and Goodkind, and I find one thing funny. Most of the people writing these reviews act like they are professionals who review for a living. They nitpick little nuances all over the place, or try to draw deep, soul-searching conclusions to each of these novels. Instead, they should enjoy them for what they are...fantasy. The purpose of fantasy is to allow a person to leave the everyday, humdrum of their life and go to a different plateau in their mind. It is pure entertainment similar to Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and so forth. Stop analyzing these works to death and just enjoy them for the fun and deviation from life's norms that they bring.

Summary: Interesting...the Comparison Jordan versus Goodkind
Review: Well, first I'd like to say that this is becoming somewhat akin to a newsgroup in terms of postings. Obviously many of us have read both of these authors, so let me put in my own two cents!

I read up to the middle of book three of the Wheel of time books. I did enjoy them, but about the middle of book three (and it was over a year ago that I stopped reading it) I remember getting irritated with the protagonist for not accepting his destiny in life. He seemed to be a broken record, always complaining about his situation. I asked a good friend why he stopped reading the Jordan books and his feelings were the same. Now this disappointed me, because I really enjoyed the universe and the details, yet my interest waned. Maybe the books start to roll along a bit faster after the spot I stopped, I'm willing to entertain that idea.

Enter, Terry Goodkind. His protagonist, Richard, dealt with many of the same internal conflict issues that Rand? did. Yet after a few hundred pages he accepts his destiny and moves on. We know that he would rather be a woods guide, but he accepts (like in real life) that one must go forward with their destiny. This is what encouraged me to continue blasting (and I read all four books in about 2 months only reading a couple hours at night)through the books. I enjoyed the way that the history of the world is slowly unfolding, for example, how Nathan enters the story. Sometimes details are good, other times they get tedious. I think Goodkind creates a great balance of detail and enrichment that inspires me to continue reading on. Furthermore, he rarely uses the "split party---alternate chapters" method of creating stupid false drama which many authors do. He leads me to the micro-climax(if you will) and then ends the chapter rarely leaving me hanging.

I have to admit, though, that I found "Blood of the Fold" to be an "intermediate" or "stepping stone" book compared to the other three. It needed to be written, but (although I read it just as fast)I didn't enjoy it as much as the other three.

I've enjoyed the nights reading Goodkind. It's given me something to look forward to. I was sorry that I finished the series so quickly. Is he better than Jordan? Is Michaelangelo better than Rodin at Sculpture? Its a matter of personal opinion and how one interacts with the work of art. That's why we see the heated debate here. As much as I prefer Goodkind, I wish I could get back into Jordan (hey I still would have 5 books worth of adventure!)

At any rate, I eagerly await Goodkind's next novel!

Summary: Both Jordan and Goodkind are incredible writers.
Review: This is a little strange writing a review for a book that isn't out yet but this seems to have been turned into a foruum for debate on the merits of Jordan's Wheel of Time series and Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I began by reading the Wheel of Time. I must say I love it's complexity. While I was wainting for the Path of Daggers to come out, I read the Sword of Truth series. I found I loved it almost as much. I find the drama and complexity of Jordan's world more interesting. He has a way of ending each book satisfactorily without ending the series. Goodkind is a different type of writer. I would scorn any who say that he copied from Jordan. I see many similarities between the two but that is only because they are both fantasy genre and their topics of one man fated to fight an unrelenting evil, are alike. I think that Goodkind isn't quite as smooth in his forshadowing of later books as Jordan is. I think this will get better with time though. All in all I look forward to book 5 with as much anticipation as I already feel toward book 9 of WoT series, though that is likely 2 years away.

Summary: THE BEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Terry Goodkind is the master of suspense. I was captivated from the very first line of the very first book "It was an odd looking vine". I wish that I could convince everybody to read this series because I want them all to experience the feelings that these books bring forth. They not only deal with fantasy problems but real life dillemma's also. I am awaiting the next book, Soul of the Fire with GREAT anticipation!

Summary: The Sword of Truth is very cool
Review: I would just like to say that both Rober Jordan and Terry Goodkind are exceptional writers of fantasy, however, to me I do not believe that a story is interesting if it never seems to end. That is what lacks in The Wheel of Time, the books don't seem to get any thing accomplished. Where in Sword of Truth, each book gives the reader a hell of an adventure and story. I can't wait for the Soul of the Fire and I hope that Richard keeps wielding the sword of the truth for all time.

Summary: Goodkind is of a good kind.
Review: Okay all of the people out there say that Jordan and Goodkind copy each other, your right they do copy each other. But not for the reasons you think. They do it because the element of Fantasy remains the same in alot of books. That's just the way it is. Tolkien copied Grim's fairy tales, they had dwarves and dwarves have beards, all of them. I respect Goodkind and Jordans writing style, because as much as they seem the same they are completely different. And if nobody likes it, I don't care in the words of Zedd, "It's the toasted toads' truth."

Summary: The sword of truth series is amazing
Review: If you like fanatasy, you will love the Sword of Truth series. All of the books follow 3 consistent characters,(2 main, 1 supportting) throughout multiple adventures that lead one off of the other. These are definitely worth picking up and spending a week with. I can't wait for Soul of Fire to come out.

Summary: this is a great book
Review: I'd first like to say that if you don't like the book don't write about it. Terry put a lot of work into all his books. I'd like to see you people write a book. He did a exellent job at all his books. Some people are so rude and have no fealings for the writer. This book has everything. I love Richerd and Kahlan and i'm so happy that they are toghether.

Summary: Goodkind is no Jordan... Thank God!
Review: This is mostly in response to anyone who says Robert Jordan is better than Terry Goodkind, or vice-versa.

Detail and elaboration does not constitue greatness.

Would anyone pick a winner from Earnest Hemingway and Charles Dickens? It is a matter of opinion and the individual preference of each reader. I, personally, prefer Goodkind's style -- follow a small group of characters and allow the reader to form a bond with them. But, that is only me. I am not going to be so arrogant to say I know which writer is better. Better has never been and will never be a fact that someone can prove in 1000 words or less.

So please, I came to this site to read educated opinions about Terry Goodkind and his new book. If you want to praise Robert Jordan, search for "the wheel of time" on amazon.com...

Summary: Long live Terry Goodkind.
Review: Mr. Goodkind is the best author I have run across these past few years. No other author has had me so excited about and waiting so impatiently for his next book. I have, and will continue to collect his books in hard back. His books have a consistant quality that we have all come to expect of his work. He has had me on the brink of tears and laughing hysterically with the story twists and turns. I never know what to expect. The concepts are useful (the Wizard's rules) and I have often quoted his work. And I will do so again. In reference to a negative personality. All I can say is....Wizard's First Rule, People are stupid.
