Rating: Summary: Wonderful series - not a copy of Jordan Review: I just recently spoke with Mr. Goodkind and he does not read fantasy, thus he could not have copied Robert Jordan's books. I have just begun Soul of the fire and am already pulled in; this book has the feel and pace of Wizards First Rule!
Rating: Summary: As Good as the Prior Books Review: Soul of Fire keeps with Goodkind's style and skill. He continues to develop the old characters and brings life to new ones. I listened to this and several of the other books...I think the original narrator, Dick Hill, is more skilled than the man who narrates Soul of Fire.
Rating: Summary: I have not read Soul of the Fire, therefore cannot rate it. Review: Sadly, I have to say that I have not yet read "Soul of the Fire." I would like to comment on the rest of the series, however. First, I believe this is a phenominal series. Goodkind proves himself to be one of the best Authors I've read. Not only is his series unique and imaginative, but well written and enthralling also. I encourage anyone who has not read this series to read it. I've found that the world created in this book is so real that, unlike some fantasy, it seems true to life. I am thoroughly looking forward to this book and hope it can answer some of the questions that the other books have left me hanging on for some time.
Rating: Summary: Okay, but not quite up to the standard of the other books. Review: I have read all of the books through multiple times, and im not to sure i want to read this one again. I was first hooked onto the SoT series because i found it different from others by not explaining the characters' attitudes and thoughts, like most do.But now with the fifth book, he explains to much in the begining.I didnt really feel anything exciting about it i was over three-fourths done( somewhere between page 425 and 500).It also confused me the way it ended. It is a book worth reading, if u truly like the series, but dont waste $30 on the hardcover. It aint worth it.A series i found to be up with that of SoT is the Wheel of Time.I strongley suggest you read it.
Rating: Summary: Excellence Again! Review: As a fan of Terry Goodkind and The Sword of Truth series, I must say that he continues to do an excellent job of taking my imagination to new depths. His characters are solid and easily understood. He takes his readers to new worlds with vivid descriptions. Goodkind stays on course with his story and characters, so it is easy to stay focused on the total story. I do wish, however, that people would quit trying to compare him with Jordan! The world of fantasy holds something different for each person that enters it. There are so many talented authors, new and old, that readers should just be happy that they can quit this world at any time an go to a place where anything is possible. Terry Goodkind is indeed one of the best new authors in fantacy literature and his work, I think, will stand the test of time!
Rating: Summary: Good but not quite to the level Review: Goodkind has a good series but he is not to the Level of Salvator, Robert Jordan, or David Eddings. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it but too many of his ideas were taken from the Wheel of Time. I found my self with a finished book and a feeling of De ja veaux.
Rating: Summary: Wait for the paperback version Review: While still a good read, Soul of the Fire isn't in the same league as the first four SoT books. Nothing really happens for the first 400 pages or so and the ending is decidedly anti-climactic. I wish I'd waited for the paperback. Now I have to wait another year to two years for Mr. Jordan's and Mr. Goodkind's new books to come out. Even though I was sorely disappointed with the last book in both of their series, I know I'll buy their next books in hardback too. I hope I don't regret it again.
Rating: Summary: Great, not excellent Review: Another great book to add to the series, but after just finishing George R.R. Martin's "Clash of Kings", the best I can give SotF is a 4
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Author!!! Review: Terry Goodkind is no doubt the GREATEST FANTASY AUTHOR OF ALL TIME!!! Comparing his books to Tolkiens and Jordan's books, his books are much better. The characters in the book are greatly portrayed and the storyline is great! The only other series that comes close to Terry Goodkind's the Sword of Truth series is George r.r. martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series and Robin Hobb's series.
Rating: Summary: Comparisons are inevitable Review: I wrote earlier about Goodkind's treatment on Wizard's First Rule, and I still think highly of that book. Let me say this, Goodkind is a talented author and Jordan is a talented author. They both do things at their own pace and style. When I read both books, I adapt myself to either style and immerse myself into the stories. But I like to think as I go on...checking off philosophy that the authors have hidden into their works. Both authors have succeeded that very well. What I don't like is another matter (the dealings with New Ageism and the jarring shifts of pace). The series are relentless in coming up with new ideas and new plots...I wonder if the authors are just trying to keep it alive as long as possible to generate money or its the result of their boundless ideas swarming in their head. I hope it is not from money. That's my two cents.
