Rating: Summary: Still Good, but a disappointment Review: Ok, this is definitly Goodkind's worst book. But still better than most I have read. While he does use most (maybe all) of the ideas Jordan created, he puts a new spin on them. All in all, its not too bad.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: yeah, it is obviously goodkind borrowed some ideas from jordan, but i haven no problem with that because goodkind makes them work better. 'sword of truth' series may not have such and endless stream of characters like 'wheel of time', but that's a good thing. goodkind makes you care for the characters in his books. you form a real emotional attachment towards them. jordan, on the other hand, has never been able to achieve that kind of emotional bond between the reader and the characters, partly because they're just too many. so, after read 'soul of the fire' i now certainly rank the 'sword of truth' series above 'wheel of time'.
Rating: Summary: I CANT WAIT UNTIL REAL SWORD OF TRUTH NOVEL APPEARS Review: I'VE BEEN DUPED! THE COVER SAID "A SWORD OF TRUTH" NOVEL BUT, INSIDE I FIND THAT THE STORY FOCUSES ON CHARACTERS THAT AREN'T RELEVANT TO THE SERIES. THESE CHAPTERS FELT LIKE FILLER, NOW I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER TWO YEARS FOR THE NEXT ONE. IS IT JUST ME OR IS ANYONE ELSE READY TO SEE A CONFRONTATION BETWEEN RICHARD AND JAGANG. I HOPE THE NEXT ONE IS ACTUALLY ABOUT RICHARD AND CO.
Rating: Summary: WELL WORTH THE WAIT! Review: Soul of the fire was a very long awaited addition to Goodkind's Sword of Truth series that lived up to it's readers' spanning patience. Goodkind's work far outshines that of Robert Jordan, so I really wish people would stop comparing the two. Soul of the Fire added the story of many new characters, who may or may not (I'm leaning towards the latter) appear in later novels. This was a refreshing change, showing that Richard and Khalan are NOT the only two people the story involves. The chimes' presence forces everyone to rely on thier wits rather than magic, and give the reader a much better sense of Goodkind's world. If you're an action freak who dosen't care about story: skip this one. It takes a really intelligent reader to appreciate this well written sequel. Goodkind had better keep his story going, or he's going to have many angry fans!
Rating: Summary: READ THIS; ITS FROM A BITTER PATRON Review: do not get me wrong, i thought goodkinds books were good.... but he totally ripped off robert jordan. seeing as how robert jordan was published first, terry goodkind took the same idea and watered it down. take the names for example...richard, and rand? hello. these books scream rip off. no one can beat robert jordan. his books are by far superior. TERRY GOODKIND IS A RIP OFF!!!! HE STOLE HIS MATERIAL!! if you want to e0mail me and discuss this further, please do- i would like to see a good defense set up for terry the cheat goodkind. fletcherama@yahoo.com
Rating: Summary: HEY YOU!!! READ THIS!!! Review: Okay, first of all I recently read Goodkinds books this last fall they are phenomonal, and I didn't read anything else for a while, other books in my opinion not being as good as Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, until I began reading Jordan's Wheel of Time. The Wheel of Time is as good as the Sword of Truth, I found some comparisons I'll admit, but they are much more different than each other even with those similarities. Goodkinds books are great, I regret I haven't read this book yet. But Goodkind I know will not let me down, the other four were great, and this one I know will either be better or as good. And that's the bottom line, because I said so!!
Rating: Summary: A disappointment Review: This latest book seemed to do hardly nothing for the existing story line of the series, and only developed new characters which did relatively nothing but add length to the book. Also, the book ends extremely fast, and leaves way to many loose ends. Overall, the book wasn't on near the same level as those before, and I was rather disappointed by the story, and it's conclusion.
Rating: Summary: Not up to his usual Review: While enjoyable and well written, I found this book to be sub-standard for Goodkind. He devotes too much time to peripheral characters that end up doing nothing in the end, and the majority of the plot is incredibly predictable. There is no real development of the main characters in this one. Still, it makes for some light, entertaining reading.
Rating: Summary: Goodkind took two years to write this?! Review: I must say that the Sword of Truth series is one of the best I have read. However, Soul of the Fire was just horrible; over half of the book was devoted to a developing a new group of characters who were boring and really had no effect on the ongoing storyline and it felt like he just threw in the returning characters to say it was a Sword of Truth book. My opinion, read the first four, skip this one (just find someone to tell you a Cliff's Notes version) and wait patiently for the next.
Rating: Summary: Not sure I want to read this. Review: Okay, basically this is my problem. I read all of Goodkind's books up to this point and loved them up until the temple of winds and blood of the fold. I felt that the story was left incomplete always. Like when they destroy whole armies, but never say what happened to their leader (Dreamwalker, I don't remember names because it has been over a year). Anyways I recently started Jordan and by the second book realized that I didn't need to read Goodkind because they are the exact same books. If you can't see the similarities in names (Sister Verna:Verna Sedia, both guide characters), devices (collars that take control of magic users and use them to the controllers will), and groups (Aes Sesai:The sisters and Blood of the Fold:Children of the light) I don't think you have read enough of either books. Now I will say that I found the writing to be different. I think Jordan spends way too much time giving character description (I almost feel he gets paid by the word like Dickens sometimes), but I feel he gets more in and you feel the part of the story you just read about is more complete. Goodkind is all action and page turning. You never get bored with what is going on and when you finish you want more, a lot more. Basically each author is awesome in their own way and should be read by any fantasy lover, but I felt a need to tell anyone who is going to read Goodkind and Jordan to read Goodkind first or you will lose quite a bit of what you would have because of the predictability of the story. It's like watching Jurassic Park before you read the book so the movie is good, cuss otherwise it is a total crock.
