Rating: Summary: Good Story, but starting to reach for ideas... Review: Anybody else getting the impression that Goodkind is running out of ideas? Technically the story was enjoyable for fans, but anybody new to his work is going to be out of breath trying to keep up with the plot. Zedd is getting more and more ridiculously useless ever since the early parts of Temple of Winds. Which is sad because I generally like the character, but it seems the First Wizard position isn't the power it used to be! The logistics also boggle the mind with people seeming to travel in a few pages what took previous journeys half the book to complete. Oh well, I don't regret getting the book-the fate of the village beatniks at the end though seems cliched- but still if Goodkind can't get a better story going next time, I'd sooner he just wrap it up and end it.
Rating: Summary: The Adventures Of Bonnie Day Review: Thanks, Terry, for Writing my my own personal Adventures Of Bonnie Day. I guess that would make you Nathan? What's the future you are preparing us for? I can't wait! I know it won't exactly be fun, saving the world from destruction, but I look forward to the adventure!Peace out. How does Book 6 in October sound to you?
Rating: Summary: Thought it was Great! Unhappy people are Stupid!! Review: Opinions are like butt-holes, everybody has one. I'm sick of people saying, "he should have talked about this, what about this story line..." Write your own book. Terry, if you're reading this, you should know that I was offended by some of the posts up here. I obviously have things that I want to happen, ideas of where I want to story to go. Unfortunately, I didn't write this story, so my opinion is like everyone else's: meaningless. I thought the book was great. Way to blow us all away there at the end. By the posts, I see that some people weren't happy about the whole Anderith thing. Screw 'em. I loved the fact that you went into it, described how the best of intentions over time might lead to a surprising ending. Showing the propensity of people to want to hold down entire segments of society, so they might live in wealth was great. Showing the propensity of people to just flat out lie, to place their own sins on others, so as to both have their cake and eat it to, was great. I also appreciate the way you described how a person might be turned into a monsterous puppet, by making them feel worthless, and then providing them with a feeling of worth by doing your evil deeds. I think you've broken new ground into the nature of man, in how it is that decent people can be turned into unknowing stooges, doing someone else's bidding. The ease with which the "media" can manipulate an electorate, just by saying something over and over again. I loved the book, and look forward to the next.
Rating: Summary: Good Buy; Good Reading; Yes, the was ending too abrupt. Review: In reading a lot of the comments about Mr. Goodkind's series concerning Richard, Kahlan, Zedd, et al, one could be discouraged from following this series! I think the book was fine. It was another installment and that was ok. I am not knocked-over by this particular book, but I am glad to have gotten one step further in reading about what's up with characters I have enjoyed reading about. Indeed, the on-goings and inner workings of the Anderith "high society" goes on a bit ad nauseum. I just skipped the lavish feast descriptions, skipped the obvious sections and read on. I got the point he was trying to build. True enough, the extended chicken bit was overdone. I nearly burst out laughing when the chicken spoke! But, I got the point. The cape made from scalps must have been a bit ripe at anyone's dinner table. With the Sovereign at table, a cape of scalps? Really? And, did I miss something? With all of the Anderith taking lisence with Haken ladies, what's up with off-spring resulting? Are they "lowly, unworthy Hakens" or what? For me, the ending redeemed the book. However, because the ending was so abrupt, I didn't get to savor much of the feeling of the book. After the pages and pages of flowing description about other topics (rape must certainly be a national pasttime in the Midlands...) made the two page, ending climactic confrontation pass by a bit too quickly for my taste. Nevertheless, I thought that the ending was welldone. I like the way the Sword made its way to Richard and that he didn't have it throughout the whole story. I like the form of "justice" that came for the Anderith high-society wickeds. If you are thinking about buying this book. Go ahead. Don't read some of these emotionally negative reviews too closely. Mr. Goodkind, I am waiting for the next episode. Although, it is coming to a time when this thing needs to be wrapped up. I guess that is the way of these Fantasy novels, everyone wants series after series. It is getting a bit out of hand. I dislike tv soap operas for the same reason. They go on and on. Each episode reveals yet another mystery that needs solving. But, I will wait for the next edition and I am sure it will be a good read also. Good Luck.
Rating: Summary: Well....Isn't this interesting. Review: I've just finished reading Soul of the Fire, and earlier this year, I finished reading The Path of Daggers. I am not comparing Jordan and Goodkind, the novels to me have very little commonality to them. <yes I know the collars seem very similar, the Blood of the Fold and the Children of the Light, but the Fold and the Children are both taken from the Crusades and religious persecution in our real world in the past> And both writers have different ways of "writing" or "storytelling" to me, and having read the 121 other reviews here <skiming the ones that hadn't even read this book yet> I find that the majority of people were disappointed with it. Some, I believe the more mature readers, found Terry's definite change in tone, pace and style in this book appealing, I find myself tending to agree more with the people that said, basically, "WHAT?!?!?!?! AM I BEING MISSING SOMETHING? WHERE DA BOOK BE? WHAT BE DIS STUFF? FITCH? WHO BE FITCH? OH LOOK, DERE BE FITCH WID HIS BRAINS ALL OVER DA GROUND OVER DERE. And seriously people, what's up with that ending? "Hi, my name is Richard, no one likes me, so I'm gonna go home, and the heck with all of you." And the Path of Daggers? WHA'DA HECK BE DAT? Hello, my name is Jordan, and I'm going to solve one plot twist, but create oh, I don't know, bout 20 more at the end of each book. Can you say 47 book series, at least. But you know the really funny thing. Here I am, like many, B*tching and complaining, but guess who has bought hardcovers of both authors last books, and knows for a fact that he will buy the hardcovers of each when they come out? Ya, you know it. You know why? because even thought the last book for Goodkind, and the last two for Jordan were not up to what I wanted, I still love the series, and will read them all, for the simple fact that I am simply one stubborn B*stard.
Rating: Summary: W O N D E R F U L Review: I must admit that this book wasnt quite up to Mr Goodkinds usual standard which is FANTASTIC!!!! I guess he must be getting us ready for the next exciting installment, I did enjoy this the fifth book in the SOT series though certain areas seemed to get bogged down with unecessary explainations, Dalton, Fitch etc, I didnt think Richard and the usual gang got as much coverage in the story, it did seem rushed, ie the dharan soldier suddenly turning up, Zedds experience in that place (that I wont name so I dont spoil it) The Ending, The Cara episode. I had hoped to see more developement there which unfortunately didnt happen, I had to use my imagination, which though colourful couldnt compare to Mr Goodkinds much better written description. I use to hate the Mord-Sith with a passion but now I love them, I hope he expands on their characters more they are all excellent, I also hope to see more of his Gar friend I absolutely loved him (for some reason Ive forgotten his name???? totally unforgivable!!!!) So if ever Mr Goodkind reads my unworthy review thankyou for your wonderful stories, NEVER EVER STOP WRITING!!!! PS If you want something different to read, please get yourself a copy of Isobelle Carmodys Books the OBERNEWTYN CHRONICLES and THE LEGENDSONG SERIES, they are EXCELLENT!!!!!
Rating: Summary: I'm quite disappointed by this book Review: I've been waiting for a long time for this book to come out, and I've found that my hopes were shattered. The first two books were wonderful. The third and fourth were very good, although not nearly as colorful in their writing, and the fifth one bites. Sorry, Terry, but it does. Now, I can understand, as a writer, that the author may have been under deadline, but I'm still disappointed. I guessed a lot of things that should have been surprises, and things I should have been able to grasp were obscure. What's up with that horse, Spider? Why was Zedd a raven, and if he lost his soul, then why was he good? Why did the horse rescue him if it was only a horse? Why was Kahlan beaten, what the hell was going on with the Domini Dirtch, and where were all the other characters and why were they going on meaningless errands? Explain. This book had a bunch of loose ends, and none of them tied in. I feel that with more timeand editing, Terry Goodkind could have written a brilliant book, but obviously this was not the case. I, for one, am quite disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Good but could've been better.... Review: The book, overall was good, however, the incidents involving the high society of Anderith became somewhat boring, and didn't relate much to the previous page-turners in the series.... It was also dipping a bit in the action area as well. Compared to the books counterparts, this one was more talk, less action.... Being a hopeful writer myself, you have to understand, that every book that follows the one before cannot be much better, it doesn't work that way. That is, unless, the writer is owned and run by his publishers who demand what the story shall include. Apparently, Mr. Goodkind is just telling a segment of the story as he has it in his mind, which, just by chance, contains the least amount of action..... If Mr. Goodkind wishes to contact myself, he can email me....if he reads this....
Rating: Summary: Terry's tired Review: It's clear that the passion Terry Goodkind had in the first few books of the series has dissipated. The fun stuff, the clever stuff, is gone, replaced by the rantings of a sour disposition. It's really sad when an author doesn't know when to stop. It's time to bring the series to a head--go after Jagang--and then see if there is anything left to write. This book was boring and it took the story completely off course.
Rating: Summary: RE:A reader , April 18, 1999 Review: okay, buddy You BEST not include your name/email with that piece of crap. Dude, I'm sorry but that has got to be the lamest ending to a post I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Grow up. Wrestiling is fake. Panzy. he ended his post about Goodkind ripping off Jordan with a totally ripped off line himself. "And that's the bottom line--cause I said so." *vomits*
