Summary: Could the series get any more amazing?
Review: When I read Terry Goodkind's last book Temple of Winds. I thought that was the last book of the series and was greatly disappointed. When I found the fifth book I was estatic. Usually after writing about the same thing in so many books causes the books to deteriorate but that is not the case with this book. It is an incredible book and I read it in 3 days. The ending is shocking and i hope he comes out with his next book soon!

Summary: Outstanding (as usual) read from Terry Goodkind!
Review: In this book, the latest in the 'Sword of Truth' series, Terry once again manages to bring to life a fantasy adventure Tolkien himself would be proud of. Not just your usual re-hashed 'swords and sorcerers' adventure by any means. This would be a good read even if you haven't been following the series, but if you are following this is a must have. Within the first chapter I was drawn into it, I didn't come up for air until I was almost halfway through. Terry has a phenominal ability to 'paint' his world so well that you almost get lost within it. (Don't wait for the paperback to come out, I made that mistake on his first book. Within six months it had been read so many times it fell apart....) Definately two thumbs up!

Summary: This book falls short.
Review: I felt that this book fell short of Goodkind's previous books in the series.

Nothing much happened, and there didn't seem to be the same struggle for victory as in the previous books, there was always some great hurdle to bypass to allow victory. This time, Richard just goes to where he is needed, and happens to think of the answer.

Also, in the previous books, Richard was never left without hope, he never fully gave up, but this time it ends with him calling it quits. It feels like Goodkind stopped the story in the middle. I hope Terry returns to what made his story great in his next book in the series.

Summary: Better Than Most
Review: This is not as good as his previous books, but is better than the majority of fantasy out there. I admit the chicken was a little much (chickens usually aren't deadly monsters), but hey, it was innovative to say the least. From the beginning of the book my heart was racing. I'm only to page 160 or so, but I can tell already that this is a great book. Reading of Anderith is fun, however, hopefully Richard and Kahlan will be in the later chapters. Despite the weak points of this book, Terry Goodkind has done it again. Keep up the good work!

Summary: A crazy chicken monster?!
Review: I have read all of the Sword of Truth books, and for the most part, I have been pleased with Goodkind's writing style. I absolutely loved Wizard's First Rule and Stone of Tears, but right around Blood of the Fold, the story lines became less and less believeable. Nevertheless, I was counting the days until Soul of the Fire would come out. I tried as hard as I could to like the book, but in the end, I gave up. First of all, the "chicken that was not a chicken" seemed like a farce on a horror story. While reading it, I'm sorry, but I could not help laughing.

Second, WHY IS GOODKIND SO OBSESSED WITH SEX? I don't know about you, but I don't want to read endless chapters about the sexual preferences of characters. Especially characters who have just been introduced into the story, and who seem to have no purpose in the plot as of yet. E mail me if you feel the way I do on this, because I haven't read any other reviews that mention it--- did you really enjoy reading about the grotesque sex lives of Dalton, Tess, Bertrand, Hildemara, Stein, Fitch, and Morley???

Also, I was appalled at the number of deaths that were described in detail. I'm not against violence in books, but it seems to me that Terry Goodkind enjoys ripping every character he creates to pieces before they have any real purpose in the story. By the time I finished Soul of the Fire, the only reason it seemed that Goodkind wrote the book was to make a political statement of some kind. After all, wasn't the whole point of the book that the government was corrupt, and the people were brainless, and followed anything that they said? I suppose that if you reeeeally love the Sword of Truth books, that you will enjoy Soul of the Fire. However, I find it strange that so many people write reviews for this book that basically read- "All of Goodkind's books are so inspiring, and I love them." Did you actually read the books? Do you enjoy the CONSTANT sexual references? Can you show me anywhere that a plot was developed in Soul of the Fire? Feel free to E Mail me if you disagree.

I can't say that enough times-- why does Goodkind have so much sex in his books? In my opinion, the books would be a much higher quality if they did not contain half of the sexual references that they do. Terry, what happened? Wizard's First Rule was filled with wonderful ideas and was skillfully written. Again, I tried as hard as I could to like Soul of the Fire, but I couldn't. When I was about half way through, I had to force myself to read it, and that was *not* fun. After reading Soul of the Fire,I'm really going to be saddened if my book is not published for the simple fact that I believe *anyone* could have written a book that would be of higher quality than book #5.

Finally, you've got to ask-- how can one of the main characters quit??? Is this Terry Goodkind's pent up emotion about the Sword of Truth series? :)

Summary: Dalton, Fitch, and Cara saved this book from devestation...
Review: Ok, first let me say that I love this series. Ever since I read Wizards First Rule long ago, I was instantly hooked. I have to say that since "Stone of Tears" the books haven't been as good. "Stone of Tears was just too good, and I have been waiting for an installment that could match it. The search continues for me becasue "Soul of the Fire" defineltely was not it. You may wonder then why I gave the book 4 stars. It's simple. Even though the new characters Beata, Fitch, Dalton Campbel, Bertrand Chanboor.,etc were all seperate from the main story with Richard and Khalan, they still were highly entertaining to watch grow as characters. In fact Fitch and Dalton are probably, other than Nathan and Warren, two of my favorite charcters in the series. Anybody who wants to discuss this series with me, feel free to do so at Jweber@mason2.gmu.edu I just have to say that I hope the sixth book goes back to concentrating on the already cool charcters that were left completely out of this one, Adie, Shota, Ulicia, Warren, Verna, Nathan and Gratch(Where the hell did he go of to?) I loved Dalton. Anyway, email me guys cuz I love discussing this series. I hope that Richard never stops weilding the Sword Of Truth!!!!

Summary: I truly did thoroughly enjoy the book,
Review: but (there always is one, isn't there), there were a few things that bothered me...the disappointing lack of Sister Verna, Warren, General Reibisch, Berdine, and Nathan. These are some of the better characters in the series. I was disappointed with Zedd not meeting up with Richard in Anderith (but the Raven was a classic touch). And, How did Fitch get to Aydindril before Cara? And wasn't Berdine still in the Keep? Why didn't she help catch Fitch? I heard a lot of grumbling about the addition of all the new characters. But I really liked most of the new characters. Aside from the disappointments stated above, I enjoyed the book thouroughly...while not quite as good as the first two, it was about on par with the third, and far and away much better than the fourth. I look forward to the (hopeful) return to Westland. I've wanted the action to return there for quite some time now. Maybe then we'll get to see Chase or the Bone woman again (whose absence has disappointed me for the past several books), or more likely, at least Shota. And that's all I have to say about that.

Summary: Best Fantasy Series I've ever seen
Review: Loved the book. It only took six hours to read, so it took me a while, but still an excellent book, particularly sice it happened only perhaps a month total after thier marriage. How can Goodkind pack so much action in such a short amount of time? Wonderful series

Summary: Great Series Great Book
Review: But there seems to be a few missing charachters wandering about. Chase and Rachel, maybe we will see Bill soon. Scarlet? How about that one leader of the 1st file guy? Those sisters of the dark? Gratch, off in gar land? How about some night wisps? Richard's half-sister? Of course, can't forget Rikka. She goes to Aydindril, then dissipears. The ending of the 5th book was a litttle wierd though. Kahlan gets mobbed, so Richard, her, and Cara go for a vacation. Although, War Wizard Richard Rahl, fuer grissa ost drauka, The seeker of Truth, Lord Rahl, grandson of the 1st Wizard, betrothed of the Mother Confessor, brother of the latest 1st concilar, and Caharin ought to cause quite a stir. The next book should be very interesting. . .

Summary: Great Book with Modern Political Slant
Review: I thought the book was great. It was just another great book in an excellent series. What I really like was the modern political under tones. Maybe it was a coincidence, but I found it interesting that Bertrand and Hildamara Coormar (spelling?) closely resemble another famous political couple in more ways than their initials. A good read, I highly recommend it. The only complaint that I have is that I wish the books were longer and came out more frequently. *smile*
