Summary: Off the beaten path of the usual, truly inventive
Review: Although the fifth novel in this series is not as up to par on adventure as the last four books, it is certainly the most interesting and fresh. New characters are explored, new places, new enemies, and above all new MAGIC. The multiple story lines keep you starving for the next chapter, and the end finalizes almost nothing which leads you to believe that this book was just a starter for its sequel. Something big is going to happen in the next book, and this book was written simply to whet your appitite. Richard was the true hero in this novel, but the end sets each character (Zedd, Ann, Richard) in an opposite direction which will most likely have each of them working in different locations to stop Jagang. No doubt, it will take all of them to defeat him.

Summary: Good book, Bad fans
Review: I really enjoyed the book. Albiet it wasn't the best he's written it was still a good book. It kept me engrossed till the end and left me wanting the next book to come out, which is exactly what a book should do. What i didn't like was checking out these reviews and seeing all these people knocking Goodkind. There was no way in hell he could have kept every one of his books going as strong as the first four were. First of all it's not possible, second if it was it would be boring cuz the last thing i want to read is a series of nothing but sword-play and magic. One other thing that gets me is the fact that people could so blatantly insult the man's hard work. Writing books is what he does best and if you think you can outdo him then let's see it.

Summary: Not up to Par
Review: Hello people, this is not the best book in the series...this book ranks fifth. I consider wizards first rule and stone two of my favorite all time books. However this one was not up to par. Anybody that disagrees go back and read the 1st. You can't say it enough....."chicken monster"???????????? come on, really!

Summary: Impressed yet disappointed.
Review: Wizard's First Rule was without a doubt my favorite fantasy book of all time. Subsequent books in the series have only bourne out this impression-each is a marvelously crafted continuation of a stunning storyline. They entertain, develop characters, and yet manage to stand alone in their own right. Epic serial at its best! Soul of the Fire, however, is something of a departure. Rather than leaving one with a sense of closure, as the others do, Soul ends on an unresolved, down note. Furthermore, Soul spends a minimal amount of time (about 1/3 by my guesstimation)with the characters we've come to know and love or loathe. Goodkind appears to be enthralled with his new, undiscovered land of Anderith. Still, the book is well written, cunningly crafted, and a joy to read, once one sets aside expectations and preconceptions. The end is still a sticking point, though. Goodkind has set up the premise for the greatest Sword of Truth book yet, if he resolves the question of the Imperial Order. Though I'm rather disappointed with Soul, I'm more anxious for the next book than I was for any of the previous ones (if only to wash the taste of this one out of my mouth!). Mr. Goodkind, please deliver what I'm thinking will be the greatest book in this series yet, and I might even buy it in hardback!

Summary: QUITE A DISAPPOINTMENT
Review: Although I really liked the other books in this series I was really disappointed in this one. It is not often that I consider not finishing a book, but it certainly happened here.

Also, what is the huge obsession with sex in this book? Do we really need to know these kinds of things to read this? I usually read a different type of book if I want to know about peoples sex lives.

Summary: The book starts good then it fizzles out.
Review: Oh boy was I dissappointed. Are we sure that the same author actually wrote this book? The first few chapters are written in the manner that we are used to seeing, and then all of a sudden your asleep. Word of Advice, don't purchase the book, check it out of your local library and save yourself $25.00.

Summary: Great book but watch the spoilers!
Review: First, to the person who wrote the review below me, watch the spoilers! What you did was a very rude and unintelligent thing. But as for the book, it was very well written in Goodkind's usual style and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series. About the only complaint I have is that the book was a little slow to get started.

Summary: This book was not on par with the other four books.
Review: I am dissappointed. The author spent to much time and effort developing characters I did not care about. The series has been about a number of main characters. Those characters, while present in the story, really do not progress or develop to any significant degree. The underlying story does not move at all. The Midlands are still at war with the Imperial Order and nothing really happened. Jagang makes a brief, meaningless appearance.

I did like the fact the magic dissappeared. It was creative. Magic still had to be addressed but in a different light.

In short this appears to be a book written soley to meet a deadline and pick-up a check. Before I buy the next book, I will wait for the paperback.

Summary: Not really worth the wait
Review: This long awaited installment to the Sword of Truth series seems to have fallen short of expectations. Goodkind makes many small mistakes, in descriptions of events that have occured in previous books. It almost seems as though a different author wrote the book. In Temple of the Winds he seems to promise an intersting development between, Chandalan and Cara, as well as Ann and Nathan, then leaves Nathan out of the story completly while leaving Cara and Chandalan acting as complete strangers.

It is decent addition the series fleshing out an interesting world, but not quite up to par with Goodkinds previous books.

Summary: Disappointing...not worth the wait
Review: I only picked up on the Sword of Truth series recently, and was aware of all of the fan comments regarding similarity to, copying of, etc., the Wheel of Time series by Jordan.

And I did almost quit reading in the middle of the second book when the Rada Han collar was introduced, since there is a nearly identical plot device in the Wheel of Time. But I stuck with this series, and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the books, and my own emotional connection to the main characters.

After "Soul of the Fire," however, I don't think I'll read the next one. I certainly won't pay for it sight unseen in hardcover, as I did for "Soul."

My strong impression with this book is that Mr. Goodkind had very ambitious plans for it, but simply got tired of writing towards the end. How else do you explain the ridiculously telescoped series of events at the end--Zedd as Raven drops off the journey book and nobody questions why it happened; the Sword of Truth materializes wrapped in a towel and nobody questions why it happened; Cara appears, and nobody questions why it happened--I could go on and on.

If Mr. Goodkind is tired of this series, then he should move on...I would gladly buy into another book of his if he wants to start something new.
