Summary: A good book out of place in a great series
Review: (DONT READ UNTIL AFTER YOU READ THE BOOK)I liked this book and I love the SOT seris but I have to say I was disiponted.I mean I did like Ficth and Beata and Dalton was awsome. But they didnt affect the "Big picture" at all almost all of them are dead, or will be. It semmed to me that the real problem with this book was that he spends 460 pages building up this story and then spends only 40 knocking it down like a card house. In a cool but VERY rushed ending. I find myself careing for ficth and hopeing he gets Beata. And after ALL the close to 200 pages Terry spends on it I wacth (and i was so shocked I almost droped the book) as Ficth just gets his skull bashed in by a mace. Never to be mentioned again. Like Goodkind never gave a damn in the first place. Dalton was a great chacter who had everything you could ask for except conpassion. If he had conpassion he could have been a hero. And even after the whole sad mess with Francea he goes a kills his wife (whome he said he loved)and himself just in the name of revenge. The chimes came in and did nothing insterting and although I really like the Creative magic and could really see the trueness of the concept...the end of the chimes and Joseph Ander was WAY to quick. And is it just me or is the old Richard I knew and loved turning more and more into an emotionless peice of cardbord( I dont mean to be that harsh but I dont know how else to say it) Now dont get me wrong I LOVE the seris and how real Goodkinds writeing is Ijust had to mention the cons of it.

Summary: enjoyed it.....but where was the other half!
Review: I have loved this series and although I agree this book is not the best, overall I did like it. My main complaint is that it seems to be half a book! The part of the story regarding the chimes was finished but the rest about jagang and the order was left unfinished. I may (or maybe not :-) wait for the paperback next time.

Summary: This book was a mojor dissapointment for readers.
Review: I think the first two books of the series were the best. I thought Blood of the fold was O.K...and Temple of the Winds was not too bad. But this book was terrible. The book had no action in it. I found myself flipping ahead as I read through the pages looking for an intersting part to read but never found one. And what confuses me is that the Series name is named after an object that only appears once throughout the whole novel. This was a major dissapointment indeed. I surely hope Goodkind is not running out of ideas because I think he is one of the most talented fantasy writers I know about.

Summary: Not the best book in the series
Review: I have to agree with everyone that said the First two books in the series was by far the superior. With the previous two I was starting to loose faith in Terry Goodkind's writting but this one renewed my faith a little. I hope that those of you who have given up on him at least read the book, get it from the library or borrow it from it friend but give it a chance.

Summary: Almost good enough
Review: One of the things that I have found amazing in the Sword of Truth series is Goodkind's ability to introduce, develop beautifully, and establish a great number of different regions of his world in the story in such a manner that they become indispensible to its continuation. Soul of the Fire, however, makes use of close to none of the brilliant settings Goodkind carefully crafted in the first four novels. This is my largest qualm with Soul of the Fire. The thing about the novel which upset me almost as much as the lack of scenery was the countless pages wasted on developing the characters Fitch and Beata. While they did serve some purpose in helping show some of the points of Anderian society (though the ins and outs of it, i.e. Dalton and Chanboor, became boring after a short while) their inclusion in Soul of the Fire seems largely unnecessary. The pages wasted on their development could've been used on elements more key to the story (i.e. Nathan, D'Hara, and more on Richard's discover of "creative magic," amongst many other things). As Soul of the Fire was, though many of you (critiquers) seem to doubt it, written by Terry Goodkind, the book was still interesting, and satisfied at least a little bit of my yearning to find out what will happen to our friends Richard and Kahlan. Kahlan's injury toward the end of the novel stongly suggests Goodkind's writing another in the series, one which I still look foward to, despite the somewhat disappointing Soul of the Fire.

Summary: changed my mind...
Review: I also believe that 'the chicken that is not a chicken' thing seemed fony, but hey, its a book.. and about the people who write reviews about the se in these books... well, I am sorry, but sometimes, that is just the way of some writers, and if u dun like it, dun read it, usually, after a few lines, u can tell how a part of the story is gonna turn out... flip the pages, and move on... also, for those that think that this did not live up to the expectations of Terry Goodkinds other writings...

I would LOVE to see any of u write a better book.., cuz it would be ammusing to see, although i do agree that he could have done better.. for those of u who have read Path Of Daggers by Jordon, u will agree that it had NO PLOT at all, but, 4 some reason, i didnt see any complaints like the ones I have been reading here about how bad the book was.. basically, if u dun like this book, dun complain, and just move on..

Summary: Question...
Review: Is it just me, or do Kahlan and Richard seem to be growing apart from each other, cuz it seems to me that they use to be more in love than they seem now, and richard seems to be obsessed with his job as seeker and more so as Master Rahl, that he has no time for the ones he says he loves. And, it I would think it more exciting if Richard actually learned to use the gift instead of always being sent away from Zedd or Nathan. I dunno, have not finished the book, but doesn;t seem to have a great story line so far, too many new characters coming at me to quickly, and am having trouble telling who is who, other than the main characters thats about it |BV| Capt. Rahl (CO)

Summary: Hopefully, this series has breathed its last...
Review: Clearly Goodkind feels he has run out of Robert Jordan's material to re-write. The first 4 books in the Sword of Truth series lacked any original thoughts or ideas, but it would be difficult to blame the convoluted and messy plot in Soul of the Fire on anyone but Goodkind. My suggestion is that he use the Sword of Truth to hack apart any further notes or manuscripts dealing with this series.

Summary: A message to the detractors...
Review: After reading only a few of the reviews here, I couldn't resist making a comment of my own. It seems that just about all of the negative reviews bemoan the lack of action and slowness of the plot in this book. Did any of you ever stop to think that it's more than simple entertainment? So what if there isn't ; it's simply a tale filled with incredible characters, and this chapter of it merely slows down a bit. Have some of you become so jaded that you can't withstand a change in pace? Is all you can enjoy magic and bloody battles? Perhaps Mr. Goodkind simply wanted to explore another aspect of the world he has created and flesh it out a bit more. For me, the description of Anderith made Richard's universe seem all the more real. Obviously, if you didn't like the book because it wasn't "action packed" and "entertaining", you don't understand what makes this series so phenomenal. Terry Goodkind should be praised for taking a chance and describing something a little different in this particular installment of the tale. Without the infusion of new characters and settings (Fitch, Beata, Dalton, Anderith, etc.), the series would rapidly get boring. For example, Cara wasn't even IN the first book, and she has become one of the most intriguing characters in the series! Dalton Campell was an amazing character provided a wonderful parallel to Richard, a comparision you would have missed if you were just reading for escapism, as many fantasy readers sadly do. My only complaint about Soul is that it seemed a bit rushed in places, especially the ending, which is why it only got four stars. Anyway, if you agree strongly, disagree strongly, or just want to discuss this incredible series, e-mail me.

Summary: Worst book in the series
Review: The book started slow, ended abruptly, I skipped most of it. Jordan's latest book is much better than Terry's one. And Jordan's latest book was mediocre. What's happening to major fantasy writers, are they getting too big for their own good, no editors? Terry I used to love reading your books, almost as much as Jordans, now I will buy paperback. This was one of the worst books I ever read, and I have read plenty of fantasy, from Jordan, to Eddings, to Salvator, to Terry Brooks etc. This book was about a killer chicken, how laughable, and characters who had nothing to do with the story! Three chimes indeed.
