Rating: Summary: SotF is different from the series but still worth it! Review: Sure, when I first read it, I was disconcerted by the amount of face time that Anderith got in the book. But, "Soul of the Fire" envoked powerful emotions from me, even when it came to the opposers of the Lord Rahl and Mother Confessor. I judge a book by its rereadability and whenever I pick this book up, just like the rest of the Sword of Truth series, I can't put it down, even after I finish it! This book offers a view of the world, beyond Richard and Kahlan, and I find their world intense. Plus, when I read the passages, I get such vivid pictures in my head that add to the atmosphere of the novel. It might not be to everyone's taste but I still think it is excellent. But most of all, I just love to visit this world! Every adventure in it is exciting and well worth the wait. And more than the adventure and magic, I love to spend time with Richard and Kahlan. They're two of my most favorite people. Thank you Terry Goodkind!!!
Rating: Summary: Wild Mood Swings Review: I've been a huge fan of Goodkind since "Wizard's First Rule" was published, but the latest in his "Sword of Truth Series" felt rushed and was sparse on plot. I think it has something to do with the short story he wrote for an anthology of fantasy stories called "Legends." What also bothered me was that his characters seemed to behave in uncharacteristic ways throughout the book. Ah well... Goodkind is still my favorite author and I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve.By the way -- where in the world is Gratch??
Rating: Summary: I LIKED THE BOOK Review: EVEN THOUGH I LIKED THE BOOK I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED BUT FOR ALL THESE PEOPLE TO SAY THEY DID NOT LIKE IT IS SILLY FOR THEY GOT SO DETAILED IN WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS WRONG WITH IT. ITS OBVIOUS THEY WHERE EXCITED BY THE BOOK OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE REMEMBERED SO MUCH OF WHAT THEY CALLED TRIVIAL.I MYSELF CANT WAIT FOR #6 THANKS TERRY FOR ELEVATING MY IMAGINATION.
Rating: Summary: Much worse then the first four, WHAT HAPPENED? Review: Soul of the Fire was an incredibly plodding and slow book. It doesn't start out necessarily badly, but once it starts with all the Fitch nonsense, you wonder "Why is this in the story?" The first four, WFR, SOT, BOTF, and TOTW were good and well written. This one was a large step down. If you are going to read it, get it in paperback, it's not worth the money for the hardcover.
Rating: Summary: The best is yet to come Review: Fellow T.G. fans please understand that Goodkind is actualy the GOOD kind of writer. All this seemingly boreing stories and unimportant characters (who mostly just died) will probably have some big role in the next book. Everything (I hope) will fall into place in book 6, maybe this was just a side novel to set up a great story for #6. Terry, if you read this, you're the best out there, as far as i'm concerned.
Rating: Summary: This book was by far and away... Review: The absolute worst in the series. Instead of picking up where he left off at the end of the series he brings us into a rather boring spinoff of the story-line. Where the hell were the Anders in the last book, Temple of the Winds? If their blasted Dominie Dirtch is so damnably powerful then Anderith should have been a first priority instead of the afterthought that it became. I hate the way he wrote this book. No one wants to hear about the Hakens. He really overdid the Ander/Hacken prejudice thing and it is blatantly obvious that his own political and religous opinions are shown in his books. I would think that someone with such descriptive ability would be able to insert some part of his own theological beliefs without any fourth grader in the country being able to see through his feeble attempts to hide what he's doing. All in all I'd say this book was reprehensible. To even compare this in the same sentence to The Wheel of Time is sheer lunacy because in his worst work, The Path of Daggers, Robert Jordan still made the story interesting and it was full of subtleties; Goodkind has no such style. I was pleased with this series up until this point. Terry Goodkind, while rather transparant in his efforts to subtly insert theological and political opinions, wrote four good books. They were interesting and brought the reader along for a ride. This was a waste of his time, my time and most importantly my money. I've never been more disgusted with a book than this.
Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: Very good book! I loved it. Terry Goodkind has done a very good job
Rating: Summary: A good but not great book. Review: I am an avid fan of Terry Goodkind and greatly enjoy his Sword of Truth series. However, I am a bit disapointed in The Soul of the Fire. There is too much time spent on developing characters that in the end are killed off anyway (Fitch, Stein, etc.) The main characters in The Sword of Truth series have too little action. Richard is without the sword of truth the whole novel and uses magic only once at the very end of the book. Khalan has no action at all, and very unlike a powerful mother confessor gets beaten to a pulp at the end. The development of Ander and it's people, although interesting, really adds little to the main themes of the sereis, i.e. Richard and Khalan's releationship, their friends, magic, and the fight with Jagang. I believe that if Goodkind really wanted to include the story of the chimes or that of Ander he didn't have to devote an entire book to them. Rather he could have inserted chapters towards this around his main story lines. The ending was also anticlimatic. The solving of the chimes riddle seemed to come out of nowhere and was over before you could say disappointing. However, there is hope. The story line is stll unfulfilled and hopefully Goodkind in his next book will return us back to the elements that have made this series great - Richard, Khalan, Zed and the world of magic.
Rating: Summary: Phsycological synopsis Review: Okay I was sort of angry and dissappointed at T.G.'s latest book. I think that *all* the other books were very good and exciting, but this book made it seem like he was reading the reviews too much and only focusing on what is considered exciting and popular for readers today, basically mindless dribble. It was better than many books I've read lately but I just expected more from Terry. I was also dissapointed when more of the Mord Sith didn't come into the story, they were in the ending of the last book. The beginning was pretty good but it basically went down hill from there, maybe Goodkind had sometype of traumitizing event in his life, we can only hope. But I will be reading the next book that comes out.
Rating: Summary: Well? Review: I don't know what happened in this book but the other four were great. I found half this book boring because a stupid character that nobody cares about (Fitch) took up half the book! Why not just mention him from time to time instead of having giant chapters on him?! Anyways, the good parts of the book was when it actually had the main characters like Richard, Zedd, Ann, etc. I also like the way Goodkind shows through this book that voting doesn't work. All and all I would recommend reading it just because the next book will hopefully be better.
