Rating: Summary: Best of the Series! Review: The author finally got one right! I was disappointed with the first books of the series. They were too long, and the dialogue was excessive and too modern to fit the genre. This book is more tightly written. Even though I was still disappointed with the modern english spouting from the characters' mouths, it was less noticeable. My main complaint has to do with this series and the series to which it is often compared--Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. In stringing out the story over several volumes, the publisher guarantees an audience for each, at the expense of the reader. Can't these authors write one completely new fantasy novel at a time? The authors' loyal fans would not have to wait two to three years for the story to move forward, only to discover that the actual end is not yet in sight. Mr. Goodkind, (and Mr. Jordan), give your fans some credit--end the story! Tor Books--shame on you! You care more for a guaranteed profit than good literature!
Rating: Summary: VERY INTERESTING SERIES BUT TIME TO WRAP IT UP Review: I HAVE ENJOYED THE SERIES A LOT BUT DON'T WANT TO GET INTO A ROBERT JORDAN SERIES OF 10 BOOKS SO HOW ABOUT A WRAP UP BOOK TO TIE UP THE LOOSE ENDS AND START ON A NEW SERIES AND CAST.
Rating: Summary: very very disappointed Review: Who the hell cares about some stupid ignorant people like Fitch, Dalton, Franca, Teresa, etc... The real fans want to know about Richard, Zedd, Ann, Nathan, and even Jagang, but we don't get any of that here. This book stinks! I really wished I would have waited to check it out from the library, instead of putting my money into Mr. G's pocket! I agree with the fans that say that Mr. G has gone the way of Jordan and is only dragging his series on to make money. And isn't it about time for Zedd to teach Richard something about his gift instead of lying to him and sending him off on some false erand like as if he was a little baby. Please Mr. G don't do this to your fans.
Rating: Summary: hmmm.... Review: this bk was better than the temple of the wind which was completely stupid but i think Mr Goodkind can do better. The book has no style and Kahlan gets so annoying at first, i mean i understand that this is when the get married and stuff but stil... and most of the characters just vanished i.e. Nathan, Gratch, Chase etc. And the sword of truth just does nothing in this book, what is the truth he seeks of, magic is not truth whatever u think. Anyway its not as bad as all that but it is a real let down from wizard's first rule. Anyone who was going to buy it don't bother but its still alright
Rating: Summary: (Three and a half, but...) Review: To me, it is obvious what Goodkind is doing. It seems that each book is devoted to a specific problem, which, when solved, leads to a greater problem (for instance, the calling of the chimes in TOTW which leads to the ENTIRE plot of SOTF). Terry - there's nothing great about having a 10 book SOT series. In my opinion, SOT is like a set of episodes (Richard Vs. Mord-Sith! Richard Vs. Disease! Richard Vs. the Chimes!) There is precious little connecting these books as far as time line goes. Terry, your writing style is great and your suspense is, well, suspenseful I guess. But in my opinion you need to have a complex SERIES OVERALL storyline, and not just complexity in each individual book.
Rating: Summary: Although not the best book i've read, it was still okay. Review: I found this book to be a let down after the superb writing illustrated in the first four books of this series. I found the Ander/Haken history (and the distortion of it) to be quite interesting, but other parts i found to be rather sickening (the grafic way he explaines people getting their eyes picked out by birds, both while they were alive, and after death, for exaple) And i have one question for you: where are Gratch, Nathan, and even Chase and Rachell? they were some of my favorite charaters, and we haven't seen them for quite a while. i agree with those who say that Mr. Goodkind must have had a deadline, because this book felt like it was missing a few chapters at the end. the build up was good, but the "climax" was a total let down. I am definetly waiting for the sixth one to come out in paper back, and i hope it of better quality than this one. Oh, and for those of you who say there's no humor, i've got four words for you: Chime-in-a-Chiken. I laughed for five minutes after reading that (but it could easily be attributed to sleep deprivation) %)
Rating: Summary: Although not the greatest book i ever read, it was still ok Review: I started reading this series a year ago, and i found it to be one of my favorites, even now. This book was kind of a let down from the other four. I still enjoyed the complex character building, and I found the background on the Ander/Haken history to be quite interesting. The ending was a huge let down, and left me feeling as though i had gotten a book that was missing a few chapters at the end. I missed many of the familiar characters, and I'm wondering where the heck Gratch went, as well as Nathan. I'm hoping they show up in the next instalment (which i'm waiting to buy in paperback) And as for the person that said there was no humor, well 4 words for you: chime-in-a-chicken. i laughed my ass off at that. (but it could just be attributed to sleep deprivation) =) for those who haven't yet read Sotf, Happy reading, and for those who have :STOP COMPLAINING SO MUCH!!!
Rating: Summary: Goodkind breaks the mould - an unexpected gem. Review: I am a big fan of Terry Goodkind's SoT series and when I first read SotF, I was rather dubious about the form in which the book first appeared to me. In WFR, SoT, BotF and TotW, violence was rife as disease in a medieval town. I thought that Goodkind had produced an awry book which would damage the appeal of the series as a whole - but I was wrong. In SotF, Richard is without his sword, Cara, Zedd and Kahlan are without their power and the massive armies that were present earlier in the series are practically nonexistent. Instead of war, Goodkind has dealt with, primarily, matters of the heart and leaves the main characters only their wits and each other in order to survive. I think this is a very commendable decision by Goodkind since it shows that he can rise above butchery, which other writers seem to rely on,to show that he has a deep understanding of human thoughts and feelings as well as how to weave these characters into a believable yet enchanting story.Bring on book 6!
Rating: Summary: 3 stars is a bit much isn't it? Review: Oh why oh why do they always have to have the hardcover out before the soft??? If you're planning on spending the money don't bother - but you might consider borrowing it from a library. I found it remarkably disappointing that this book could have come from such a brilliant writer. But, i still haven't lost faith, i'm hoping for a more than average storyline for book 6. And truly, Mr Goodkind if you read this comment pleease spend a little extra time on the ending - and just ignore your publishers if they have a deadline i'm sure everyone wouldn't mind if you just spent a little extra time making up a good ending!
Rating: Summary: P U! What a stinker! Review: I have read all of Goodkinds books and this had to be the worst of the lot. All I could think of was: Who were these people and what do they have to do with the story line I liked so much? I felt this was a terrible waste of paper. If there is to be a continuation of the series, I will be hesitant to read it unless I hear differently from others as to the story continuity. I expected to read more about the main characters, but what you get instead is a meaningless wandering into another story with bits and pieces of the original. Yuck!
