Summary: The series seemed to start out OK,...
Review: First of, let me say that I picked up the first book Wizard's First Rule because I was looking for more good fantasy by new writers. Goodkind has a different style from most fantasy writers in the detail he goes into over violence, torture and sexual situations. I initially thought the first book to be a decent venture into the realm of fantasy albeit a little rough in the style of writing. With theprogression of the series to the current book however, I can no longer ignore the fact that this series is definitely not written on the level of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

Terry Goodkind is the type of writer who doesn't seem to have yet grasped the skill of building an epic tale. From this latest novel, and in fact through the series, I got the impression that he had little of the patience needed and instead preferred concentrating on all the little details involved inthe violence or sexual situations in his books. Sort of the difference between an epic movie and a B-grade one that concentrates on the sex and violence to draw fans with short attention spans. Interesting to find such an attempt in the novel writing market.

It seems from this novel by Goodkind, that he is feeling a little pressure in being compared, quite inevitably to Robert jordan and his Wheel of Time series. I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the petty references against Jordan's series, beginning with the review against Jordan's series as you open the cover of the book and continuing with the ridicule of the name 'Lurk' which is used in Jordan's series. Very petty.

I have thus far read Goodkind's Sword of Truth series hoping he would improve, but I believe this is the last of his books that I will pick up.

Summary: Another one to the A list
Review: In this amazing sequel to Terry Goodkind's "Temple of the Winds", he again immerses you in an amazing world where magic, monsters, and mayhem all seem to cave in on Richard Rahl's life. Goodkind writes with a style that makes you stay up to read the story. The phrase "couldn't put it down" is an appropriate description of what you would do while reading his books. I advise those of you who have not read any of his books yet to start with "Wizard's First Rule", the first book in the Sword of Truth saga. Goodkind doesn't bore the reader with petty details, but actually makes everything he writes interesting to the reader. Every chapter in the book supports the plot immensely and expands the comprehension the reader has of the book. He makes the characters seem as if they were real, as if you could relate to them or their situation. At times he dedicates an entire chapter to one character so you feel closer to and get to know the character better as the story progresses. The story doesn't seem too farfetched either. Goodkind tries to keep the story real as if he weren't writing a fantasy book. It's also easy to follow, as he doesn't have 20 things going on at once in the story and he doesn't jump around. Interesting, organized, and just plain fun. Buy it, borrow it, and read it, I promise you'll love it.

Summary: Please bring back the power in next volume
Review: The book was an unwanted child of the Sword of truth series. One likes it after birth but does not adore it and keeps comparing the other children. Let bygones be bygones and As much as I loved Terry's previous books, I would like to give him a chance to continue his reign as a top fantasy writer by proving himself and/or outdoing himself in the sixth book. Are you listening Terry? You are your own destiny, just like Richard. Let the sword speak the truth and win the battle of the millinium - Our hearts. Good Luck.

Summary: Going from strength to strength
Review: Wow, wow and wow again. I have to say that Terry Goodkind's 'Sword of Truth' series is one of the best I have read (and I have read a few! )and Soul of the Fire is no exception to the norm. In this book all our favourite characters re-appear and are developed into deeper personalities that we can empathise with. Terry moves away slightly from the 'on a quest style' and adds more politics and intrigue into this book which helps to keep a long running series refreshing. I particularly enjoyed the way he keeps you suspended at the end of the book, with the near fatal injury of a main character. I am dying to read the next one...

Summary: One of the best
Review: The book starts off kind of slow but as always Terry pulls it together in the end and masterfully answers all the questions. If you a follower of The Sword of Turth Books then this is a must. It may lack in action but the background information is outstanding, you feel like you know everyone. I could not put this one down and stayed up a few late nights engrossed and losing track of time. I can't wait for the next if there is such a thing.

Summary: I hope the next book is better.
Review: I enjoy this series greatly, however I thought this book was not as vivid and exciting as the others. It seems like they confront and solve their problems too easily.

Summary: Goodkind is superb!
Review: The Sword of Truth series is the best answer to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Goodkind does a great job of continuing the series and not repeating what happening in the previous novel. This book was not as great as the previous ones; but still better than the latest Wheel of Time books. I am looking forward to reading the sixth Sword of Truth book.

Summary: Disappointing and silly
Review: I hope I never get to the point where I have to read a bad 500 page book to be "up to speed" for the next book in a dying series. Terry Goodkind makes a big point of saying his books are self-contained, which is funny, considering that book 3's LAST sentence is "It all started before, in the ancient war, when were created the ones called dream walkers." Talk about a ridiculous cliff hanger! [And why did Zedd suddenly get dyslexic?]

I loved Wizard's First Rule, and liked Stone of Tears. In my opinion, and that of many others I've read and spoken with, Blood of the Fold is one of the worst books in epic fantasy. Temple of the Winds was better, but relied more on things that made no sense, like that stupid blind arranged marriage thing. It amazes me how people long for characters who haven't made an appearance since book 1! There is something about series, and soap operas, where readers feel invested so they can't give up when they see things sliding downhill. All I can say is that I'm done plunking down hard earned money on hardcover books this bad.

Summary: Great Plot Development
Review: I love the Sword of Truth series, and I always eagerly await the next book. I'll admit that I had a little trouble getting into this book at first, but it was worth the effort. I loved the ending. I liked Richard better in this one because he seemed more natural and human. I hope we get to see Richard learn more about his magic and how to use it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Next!
Review: Outstanding book and storyline, but definately a different flavor than the other four. The bad reviews are from the same people who complain when their favorite musical group "changes" (Such a nasty word). What could have brought on the coveted 5-star? Epic battles, Goodkind has a way of making you feel like your in the middle of them. The emperor has been hovering on the backburner for too long. These two armies need to scrap a little more often. Repeatedly stealing the prize before he shows up just isn't the same. So bring on number six and quickly please.
