Summary: GOOD, BUT NOT AS GREAT AS THE OTHERS
Review: I have loved this series more than any other books I have ever read. The characters are developed so well, you feel like you know them personally. I would probably recognize Richard if he walked down the street! Also, the story is told so well as to make it an "epic of awesome proportions". The world Goodkind has created seems so bright and alive to me. Here is where the critique comes in. Soul of the Fire was a little too random for me. It's been months since I've read it, but as far as I can remember, there were times when I would think to myself, "where did this come from" (i.e. The whole subplot of Anderith). I don't know if Terry was running out of material, or what. And the ending really disappointed me. I stayed up all night long to finish it, because I was so excited about what was gonna happen. But after it finished, I kinda sat there and said, "huh?" My first thought was that Terry Goodkind had to turn the book in by 8 a.m. the next day, and sat up all night writing the last few chapters. All in all, though, I love this series, and I am gonna read book 6. I am crossing my fingers that some old characters are brought back (i.e. Chase) and that Kahlan uses her power to possess and control a one-eyed, axe-weilding bodyguard. Cheers Goodkind!

Summary: Ian's Review
Review: Okay so basicly the chimes are loosed by Kahlan in saving Richard's life and he must banish them in order to restore magic. Cara is sent to recieve Richard's sword and finds two kids, Fitch and Morley, stealing it. And Zedd is turned into a raven after his soul is stripped from his body by Reechani the queen of the fire.
This novelwas appealing to me because it had a lot of suspense in it and that kept me reading ever onward. Also some other reasons are that the characters were portrayed as real people and reacted in ways that you would expect them too...except maybe Richard, Zedd, and Fitch. Also the fact that it is book five in a series that I've grown too love and have read all along didn't hurt it at all.
This book is mainly for the sci-fi audience I believe. It is also for you if you are deep into swords and magic.

Summary: The Least Entertaining 'Truth' Novel of all...
Review: Having read the ENTIRE 'Sword of Truth' series. I have to say this one was THE strangest and most out-of-place of them all. I have to say it WAS well-written, and I still enjoyed it, but it left me disappointed because at least HALF of the book took place in a city called, 'Anderith' in the South-Western portion of the Land created by Mr. Goodkind. That means half of the book centers around characters that we've never heard of before, and it isn't until the very end that they tie together with Richard, Kahlan, Zedd and the others we know and love. After reading 4 books that went into detail about these people, and developed situations that I was interested in seeing resolved or at least touched upon, this book did an about-face and went in another direction entirely. Now when a book surprises me and does the unexpected I am usually happy...however that was far from my thoughts as I progressed in this book. It was more confusing than surprising. I kept wondering, "WHERE is this going and WHY is it going there?" Even after finishing it, and reading book 6 ('Faith of the Fallen') I STILL am perplexed at why Goodkind went into such detail about these people only to abandon them in the next book. It just didn't make sense, and still doesn't. I hate to irritate those who enjoyed this book, and I almost feel apologetic for being critical, but the more I think about it, the more I am disappointed with Goodkind for setting us on a specific (and entertaining) path only to take a detour that just goes outside what he has had us come to expect for 4 straight books. Now I don't believe that author's should always be predictable, far from it, but 'Soul of the Fire' seems as though it were a different fantasy story world altogether. Now let me say this: Goodkind more than redeems himself with book 6. 'Faith of the Fallen' is a true fantasy masterpiece (especially after this one...). Now with that said, I still enjoyed it, as quirky as it was, but it just didn't elevate itself to the lofty heights we have come to expect from the fantastic 'Sword of Truth' series. Read it, you'll need to anyway just to understand the series, just be aware of how different it's going to be.

Summary: I'd give this zero stars, if I could.
Review: I enjoyed all the Sword of Truth books prior to this one, and the Faith of the Fallen was a remarkable comeback. Soul of Fire lost me as soon as the Killer Chicken showed up. I only finished it because my sister assured me it got better after that. She lied.

Do yourself a favor, and don't waste your time. I agree with the reviewers who suggest skipping straight to Faith of the Fallen.

Review: Good book. Best of the Series. Look at the ratings! there's nothing more to say.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Read the series, skip this book
Review: While I have enjoyed the overall storyline, this is the black sheep of the series. The novel the other ones don't want to talk about.

This installment is a pain to read. It leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth and thinking 'What was the whole point of the last 600 pages?' The only good thing is that all the people you grow to loathe (and in an 'oh please don't make me read more about him' way not an 'oooo, he's so evil and bad' way) end up dead in the end never to return. The only bright spot I can remember was how one of the nobles got revenge on his religious based king and his cheating wife.

I recommend the series. It is entertaining and enjoyable, but I also recommend to go from book 4 to book 6. You can totally skip this book and not miss anything in the series.
