Rating: Summary: Actually, it's 3.5 stars! Review: I rushed to the book store and bought a hard cover (which I almost never do) because the first 2 books in this series were so awesome. I can't say I was sorry I did it, because Marillier is a fantastic writer, with an unusual ability to make you breathe her world of magic and nature. I have no fault to find with the story line, but I just found it so hard to like the heroine. I like strong female protagonists, and you really can't say this one was strong. However, JM was true to her story, and you have to respect that. After all, you can't expect to like a girl who has been brought up by a cold and distant father and an evil and controlling grandmother.AS usual, she blended this story seamlessly with her previous one, and she gives her readers such a fresh view of medieval life lived side by side with magic. The novel's journey towards the final showdown between an evil sorceress and the family which has always been her enemy, is satisfying. But, I felt a little sceptical with the reintroduction of some characters from the previous tales. For instance, why would a clairvoyant, who had seen his death decades ago, not recognize when the time had come? Why would any self respecting woman of even minor intelligence, who had been brought up specifically to recognize and wield magic and power, take so long to recognize her place in the prophecy? I am willing to work at ignoring these little glitches, because Marillier deserves the extra slack, but there's no doubt that this tale is less satisfying than the previous 2. All in all, this final chapter of a riveting 3 volume tale, left me unsatisfied, but feeling like I really should get over my little problems and appreciate a wonderful, original tale very well told.
Rating: Summary: WoW Review: The Sevenwaters trilogy is amazing! Juliet Marillier is an amazing author with an exceptional talent for intertwining emotions and action. Even though "Child of the Prophecy" wasn't my favorite out of the trilogy, it is still wonderfully written and full of suprises.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully Woven Review: I think this book is absolutely amazing. It is beautifully crafted, and weaves together fact and fiction so well that it is easy to believe that this story could have taken place. The characters have flare and personality, and everything ties in perfectly with the first two books. A great read!!!
Rating: Summary: wow Review: this book came to life as did the others of the sevenwaters trilogy. i cant even explain how good it was.
Rating: Summary: its greaaaaat!(line is officially sponsored by kellogs )hehe Review: The whole trilogy was fabulous but I have to say that Child of the Prophecy and Daughter of the Forest are by far my favorite...... Maybe because of the fact that i felt more related with these two heroines than with Liadan..... Fainne is easy to love, her mistakes and the guilt she feels for them make you pity her and brings you closer to her. The fact that she is not sure of everything she's doing but that she keeps on going, bearing with all her pain, for the sole purpose of saving her loved one's lives, proves her courage but also makes her, in a way, more humble thus more easier to relate to. Juliet Marillier is a wonderful writer, her ability to create a character that creeps into your heart and lodges itself there for eternity is amazing. Throughout the book Fainne's fears and hopes become your own, you go through the book as if the adventure was your own. These books will be a part of me forever, I cant wait to read some more of Marillier's works.
Rating: Summary: A Disappointment Review: Despite being about sorcery, this last book doesn't have the magic of its predecessors. Long and dull, it is also a bit lazy in that anything "fuzzy" is explained away as "that's what the prophecy says." If you aren't compelled to finish the series, you aren't missing out...if you are, just read the last 50 or so pages. That way you'll miss too much buildup (and favorite old characters acting out of character) to an ending that is a let down.
Rating: Summary: I'm conflicted ... Review: ... This book is great! The whole trilogy is great! I love the rising female fantasy writers because of the emotion they build into their stories. But what I don't understand (and maybe this is bacause I am a male) is why some of the up and coming female fantasy authors seem to be hanging on to sexually explicit scenes (or at least scenes with overly explicit descriptions and conversation) such as what one would find in a pulp fiction lust novel. Elizabeth Haydon is another such author who wrote a wonderful trilogy, a wonderful heart-ripping love story, but cheapened it with such imagery. Isn't it possible to have lots of emotion, reveal the evil side of humanity, and still keep it rated PG?
Rating: Summary: A good finale for the trilogy. Review: I gave Book One 4 stars, Book Two 5 stars, and now Book Three 4 stars. It is also very good, but SON OF THE SHADOWS remains my favorite of the three. Recommended reading.
Rating: Summary: Great Trilogy Review: Some people seem not to like the conclusion of this trilogy. I loved it! Fianne has to choose between conspiring with her evil grandmother to save her father's life or to deceive her and save the Child of the Prophecy and the family she has come to love. This is a wonderful trilogy full of intrigue, Celtic tales, warmth, evilness and love pure of heart. It also makes us think that we have choices on our path and to choose them wisely.
Rating: Summary: my thoughts :) Review: I don't know where to begin..this book is AMAZING! It filled in some questions that I had from the first book onward. All three of these books could be stories by themselves..but the way that Juliet Marillier ties these 3 generations together is well..magical. Daughter of the Forest opened a new world to my eyes. One that brings back nature to the world. Son of the Shadows is my fave of the three though. Liadan does what she thinks is right..instead of someone else telling her how to live her life for her. And last but not least, Child of the Prophecy. Fainne did the right thing finally! and everyone forgives and forgets...Never knew what was going to happen..not until i read it with my own eyes. That's how GREAT these stories are..because i usually know what's going to happen before it happens. Juliet Marillier kept me in suspense the entire way. I can't wait for more books by her :D
