Summary: Weird, but definitely worth a read
Review: This has been the most unusual book in the entire series. At times, I had to remind myself that it was Star Wars, but it was an incredibly interesting book. The philosophical discussions were rather controversial, but this book is definitely worth a read...

Summary: Jacen Returns
Review: I've been reading the Star Wars books since they came out, years ago. The NJO series emerged sometime during my attendance at college, and we finally have books that aren't so "happy." The NJO has put the New Republic to the test and Jacen has been lost to the Vong.
This book is a masterpiece. It is not a story with a million different sub-plots, and it doens't jump around. The writing style is totally different and very good. It's all about Jacen. If you want to to see Jacen return, become a man, and become the most powerful Jedi the New Repiblic has ever seen, read this book. You need to thank the feathered character Vergere and author Matthew Stover.
You might want to read "Rogue Planet" to learn a little bit about Vergere and the Vong.
An excellent and very different book. A totally new writing style has been introduced to the Star Wars Universe

Summary: New depth to the NJO series
Review: Though the writing style is different and the book focuses only on Jacen, it is truly an amazing story. I imagine the core team of NJO writers planned out the entire story line first, so this Jacen-only story may have been already been mapped out. But WOW, what writing!
The other NJO strories do not keep you guessing as much and don't offer such a psychological journey. Not for the fans of simple blast and slash I suppose, Traitor really draws you in and leaves you feeling like the pace is about to become breathless for the rest of the series.

Hats off to Stover for some incredible writing!

Summary: Traito to All
Review: If NJO continues down this road...I'll never ever stop reading these books. The exploration and exploitation of Jacen was phenomenal. It took awhile to get rid of his whinyness, but it's a good thing. The philisophical side of the book has forced me to read it several times already. Things will never be the same in the Jedi Universe. I have to agree with most other reviewers that the series slowed down too much in the middle books but has come back at light speed to keep us all interested. Vergere has been the key since Cloak of Deception, a good tie in. A must buy for any Star Wars fan!

Summary: A new level of Star Wars
Review: While Lucas's efforts at earlier history seem to get worse and worse (Episode 1 was a bust, and Episode 2 full of cliches without the wit of the original Star Wars [Episode 4: A New Hope]), the New Jedi Order books show a real range of interesting story and reevaluation of the original characters (as they age and, hopefully, mature) and new ones (the young Solos start to become real people). Traitor (book 13) was for me the best by far, tho it cannot be read all by itself (you really need many of the earlier books to understand the context). Matthew Stover, a newcomer to the Star Wars galaxy, shows far more insight into the Force and the Jedi---their prejudices and blind spots as well as their strengths---than anyone before. Not all that much excitement for fans of space shoot-em-ups and light saber battles (don't we get enough of that in Episodes 1 and 2?), but for those interested in human (and alien?) character development, it's hard to beat this book. Jacen evolves from student to teacher/student and gardener, true to his tendencies from the earlier books (Young Jedi Knights series as well as NJO), but far, far more. If you want to be surprised and uplifted, without having all the problems resolved by a Jedi deus ex machina, read this one.

Summary: Easily the best book thus far in the series!
Review: Traitor is by far the best, and most different, in the New Jedi Order series. It's great to finally know what has happened to Jacen Solo since we last saw him in Star By Star. Coruscant has been lost, and Jacen is believed dead. And he is. Sort of. Under the care of Vergere, the creature whom is allied with the Yuuzhan Vong, Jacen is learning much about himself. He is also learning of a new way to perceive the Force. But with this newfound power comes many questions, like how exactly will Jacen use his power? And for whom will he use it, the Yuuzhan Vong or what remains of the New Republic? This is an EXCELLENT read for any star wars fan, regardless if you've read the New Jedi Order series. It's hard to put this book down.

Summary: Amongst the Best of New Jedi Order
Review: I was introduced to Star War novels by my son two years ago. Since then I have read practically all of them. Starting from Thrawn series to the birth of Ben. All through this Jacen was considered by many a cry baby ... but if one thinks about it, he is the one who saves his Mom from Tsavong La, killed the Voxyn queen, has put up fierce fights with Yuzan Vongs, yet always checked his actions. Finally Mat. Stover has brought him into focus (something I always felt Jacen's char. deserved)so sharply that it will be difficult to weaken again. When I first started reading this book, I thought this can't be. What is going on. The style has changed. No more routine attacks, repeatedly stupid 'tricks'and brainless jumps from one place to another.
This book has an incredible plot, strange twists and most unexpected turns. A new twist to the Force. Few names to remember and yet so gripping. I read this book in one sitting. The only thing better would be to see Jacen unite with others and become a Jedi Master.

Summary: Jacen's Redemption?
Review: Traitor was a hard read. The book is full of scenes of needless cruelty and torture. Having said that, if you can look deeper, you will find that the writer tries very hard to help resolve some of the endless questions that plagued our hero in the earlier books in the series. What slowly emerges is an unspoken secret about the Force and Jacen stands at the crossroads - descend into the arms of the dark side and madness or become one of the most powerful Jedi ever.

The book lacks a lot of the action seen in the two books that precede it and the reader will spend a great deal of time in the mind of Jacen as he undergoes a very painful and personal metamorphosis. Those seeking more information about Vergere will be teased ...... is he friend or foe, Jedi master or Dark Jedi? Most of the other characters are mere cardboard cut outs including Nom Amor. This was not an easy read and by the end I was both frustrated and intrigued. Reading this series has been like riding a roller coaster and while the two books that precede it represent exciting drops, this book is best described as a slow ascent to the top of the largest peak.....one can only hope that the next book is more exciting than this. It is hard to imagine how all this will end, but end it must because I do not know if I have the patience to endure another entry in the series like Traitor.

Summary: One of the better Books in the NJO Series!
Review: Warning: if you don't want to have some parts revealed, DON'T read this review.

I really liked this book. it didn't have much action, except at the end with ganner's last stand(he sure went out with a bang!). however, it made up for it with many revealed secrets, such as there being no dark side of the force. it also shows how jacen really is the strongest of the solo children. it fleshes out vergere quite a bit too.
It's interesting seeing coruscant the way it is. it really shows that even if the yuuzhan vong are defeated, nothing will ever be the same.
Im glad the NJO series has produced some good books again. the first few books were pretty good: VP, DT:1 & 2. then the series soured with boring books like JE:1 & 2, BP, and EoV:1,&2. Then SBS came along and brought new life to the series. DJ was pretty bad, but EL:1 & 2 were great, bringing back wedge, and this one has continued the string of good books. I really liked this series (and that comes from a guy who's pretty picky about his star wars books) but my favorite part was defenately hat thet killed off borsk fey'lya early on in the series. no more whining furball crossed with windbag senator to get in the way like he did in the thrawn series and in this one too. The series is a must read for star wars fans, and this book must be included.

so long for now, and
Beware The Dark Side (wait, there is no dark side, i forgot!)

Summary: A new point of view
Review: The first thing I want to say about this book is that it was really nice to see an objective look at the Force. One of the previous editorals said that this author knew nothing about the SW universe and that his understanding was based on the role playing games. Well the Force is very intensively looked at in this book and its role in the Jedi's life. I like the take the Vegere puts on this and totally turns upside down what everyone has always believed in the Force. I think everyone takes it for granted that Yoda was the end all know all of the Force. Now we see there was others that had knowledge and wisdoms that even Yoda missed. Seeing others at Yoda's level from that time (hense the Anakin Skywalker comment) is really cool to bring the continuity thing to the forefront. Overall this a great book about a young Jedi (or not a Jedi) development and enlightenment into his place in the Force.
