Summary: great writing
Review: I think that this is the best book in the NJO so far. Stover's style is extremely captivating, and it is hard to put this book down. The whole point of the book is to focus on Jacen's growth. The lack of my other favorite characters (Luke, Jaina etc) underscores that point and shows that such journeys are usually taken up on our own. Jacen's "teacher" Vergery is also a very interesting character and is what Yoda was to Luke. Even though she does not speak with a broken grammar, her questions are thought provoking and lead Jacen on the path to self-discovery.
I definitely recommend this book.

Summary: Once in a blue moon...
Review: Once in a blue moon, a book comes along which leaves your ears ringing. Once in a blue moon, a book comes along which leaves you breathless and giddy with joy. Once in a blue moon, a book comes along which compels reexamination and reevaluation. Once in a blue moon, you feel like you're growing and evolving along with the characters in the book - emotionally and spiritually!

Once in a blue moon is now.

This book is one of challenges. The challenge of writing a Jacen-focused novel, a character generally not liked. The challenge of Jacen's journey: he metaphorically, symbolically and literally journeys through HELL. Jacen's character is challenged down to the very core of his being, down to every bone in his body. The tone of the novel often borders on a grave darkness. The roller coaster ride hits some pretty low lows. In this way, Matthew Woodring Stover also presents a significant challenge to Star Wars readers.

In a nutshell, I see this novel as a microcosm of the entire NJO. This book will be to the NJO what the NJO has been to the Expanded Universe: change, evolution and veering differences. The NJO marks a time of turmoil, of change and new beginnings. Traitor achieves that end goal in some profound yet markedly different ways, if that's possible. Not everyone tends to like unlearning what they hold dear, what they hold precious. Luke Skywalker had to do it in his training and now Jacen must.

Finally, regarding Stover's prose and writing style: they blew me away. I didn't believe he could possibly top his other novels, but manages to anyway. Stover's prose: precise and vivid. Stover's style: relentless, brutally honest yet symmetric and chaotic all at the same time. Loved every word, every paragraph, every page.

Summary: Very, Very Interesting
Review: I must say that this was a great book. Got it and was done with it in about six or seven hours. It kept me guessing on who the "traitor" was. I don't want to give it away for those who haven't read it but it should make you quite happy. Now the real problem is waiting till the next book comes out. That part is just now fair.

Summary: "Traitor"?
Review: This book was excellent.

I originally bought it with a feeling of trepidation, crossing my fingers and hoping that this new author could write decent Star Wars stories. Stover writes more than decent, he writes amazing! Though, I have to admit, it is not like any of the other SW books I've read so far. It has great action (NONE SHALL PASS! comes to mind) and fairly familiar characters (Jacen, Vergere, Ganner Rhysode) but what really stood out for me was the way it explained the Force. Dark Side, Light Side... The meaning of it all... Maybe this book has more in common with philosophy than action?? Nahh. Still, I always wondered how it could be that the Yuuzhan Vong weren't visible to Jedi thru the Force... and how if the Vong WERE Force-less, Anakin could have gotten his lightsaber to work the way it did with the Vong crystal. That question was very acceptably answered to me in Traitor.

My final recommendation: READ THIS BOOK!!! Very good.

Summary: Hearts and minds
Review: ...

With no resolution in sight, it was time for a fresh approach to the conflict, and Matthew Stover has given it to us. There is less action in this one, and much philosophizing, introspection, and character development that harkens back to the ideas that sparked George Lucas' imagination in the first place. The cast of characters IS small, but ultimately it comes down to two-- Jacen and Vergere-- with the rest of the players serving as the instruments that play out their fates. There is an EVOLUTION here-- a progression not only in the storyline but in the development of the characters and relationships. Yes, there is some gruesome business here (as things tend to get when the Yuuzhan Vong are around);the action pieces are extremely violent but nonetheless deliberate and necessary. But we get revelations, and surprises, and ultimately a supremely satisfying ride. Mr.Stover has set the bar high for the authors who write subsequent entries in the saga-- it will be interesting to see what they make of the rich fodder Stover has served up.

Summary: The Jacen Solo Book
Review: Even though I generally don't like a book when it is based on one person, I think this book was well written. You must pay attention to everyword to fully grasp this book about a young jedi struggling with what he thinks is the light and the dark side and the games Verge plays. It sets the way for Jacen Solo being a very powerful jedi.

Summary: Ganner's Death, Vergere's lessons to Jacen
Review: I am a huge star wars fan. i found the attack of the clones novel early. while i was on vacation i hunted for traitor early. i found it. this boo was good and i can't wait for destiny's way but they killed ganner and what's worse ganner was only in 3or 4 chapters. "None shall pass" reminds me of gandalf "you shall not pass". i always enjoyed ganner ever since he saved corran and realized the error of his ways in ruin. why did ganner have to die? and the fact that ganner was supposed to be a as mr.stover put it "a crappy jedi" is untrue. he wasn't anakin solo or luke. ut he was a great jedi. this stupid idea of him being the worst jedi is wrong. no jedi made fun of him. jacen solo liked ganner in ruin. i jst reread it. this line how ganner and jacen never liked each other is wrong. they weren't best friends but the respected each other and liked each other. ganner did not have to die. other ways of jacen's plan working could just have him or vergere and even with ganner living. Ganner did not have to die.
Vergere is an intruiging character. Once a jedi. She certainly changed from her brief appearance in cloak of deception. she believes no lesson can be learned without pain. She taught Jacen Valuable lessons. My favorite part of the book was when she ignited jacen's saber and tied up nom anor. i hope tsavong does kill nom anor. i was really worried when jacen electrified vergere. i thought she would die. her feelings when jacen mentoned anakin skywalker hinted at how caring she used to be.
Jacen certainly went through a dramatic event and it will be interesting to see how others react when he returns in Destiny's way. I can't wait for the next njo book and encourge everyone to read traitor.

Summary: A Book For Those That Liek to Think.
Review: I have been reading Star Wars novels for years. I have read every Star Wars book out to date This is by far one of the best I have ever read. It concentrates on Jacen through the entire book so if your looking for your usual Han, Luke and all the other main characters showing up and saving the day is some big dramatic way this is not the book for you. There is no big space battles and not a lot of combat in general; but the combat that is in the book is very well written giving you a good sense of exactly what is happening. This book will make you think all the way through. It will answer some questions a lot of Star Wars fans have and bring up some new ones. Lastly this is not a book for kids. A lot of the things that are explored in the book will confuse most people; but if you are a Star Wars fan or are just looking for a good read this is the book for you.

Summary: Restored my faith in the Star Wars series
Review: This book is incredible. Grabs you by the neck from the
beginning and never lets go. Bought this book at 1pm and
didn't put it down till I finished reading it 7 hours later.
Matthew Stover has the best writing style of all the Star
Wars writers. After I read the book all I could think was
WOW!
