Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A truly beautiful ending to an exciting and original series. Review: Although somewhat disappointed in the preceding volume, which, for me, was more like an Indiana Jones type story than what I had come to expect from Simmons, the last volume was excellent. It was well thought out, with a great diversity of characters which a reader could easily love or hate, placed in a very original, thought provoking plot. Well done! Note to the author: I found one editing mistake that you might be interested in. On page 420 Raul is inspecting his bare, pink scalp, while on page 433 Aenea is running her hands through his hair. It struck me as funny, especially since Aenea had commented earlier on a famous editor's mistake.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Many of the reviews I have read missed the point. Review: Dan Simmons has captured the essence of what all the New Agers have been saying for 30 years. From a Christian perspective, the triumph of love over even the power of established religions is the triumph of good over evil or God over Satan, if you will. The fact that may of you state the the plot was contrived and the ending foreseeable leaves me wondering at the depth (or lack of same) with which you read this folio. The story was not the purpose of the writing, but rather the Signpost to a better and attainable world.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Yes, well, its over Review: As a huge fan of Dan Simmons I was somewhat disappointed with Rise of Endymion. It never pulled me in as completely as the other parts of the story. Rise of Endymion did not seem as well developed as many other of Mr. Simmons novels. At times it seemed to me as if he hurried to get this over so he could move on to something else. However, it is still outstanding SF, and I am perhaps disappointed because the standard was set too high by the previous parts of the tale. The other novels I found I could not put down; this has taken me many weeks to read. Still, an engaging story and a universe that I enjoyed. Perhaps I am so critical only because I have become so involved in the story... Overall, I would highly recommend the entire Hyperion saga to any fan of SF (or good, engaging writing for that matter!)
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: great reading, but slow in some parts Review: I have read the first two books in the spanish version, the last two books thanks to Amazon. I found Hyperion the best, I did not matter that it didn't have a "true" ending. The next books are more space opera, but the writing is great. About "Rise of Hyperion" I have two problems. The first is Aenea, somehow she is too good to be true; she is like one of those children that know everything. The second problem is what I would call the "Dante Inferno item": the bad guys are always more interesting. I found myself going fast over the adventures of Aenea in order to go back to Pacem and the Pax. After all this is written, I want to recommend the series for the old guys that want to feel again as when they were reading Asimov and Clarke in the fifties and sixties, discovering science fiction.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What Next for Simmons Review: What can you say when one of the absolute best of today's writers pumps out the grand finale of his masterwork. This book will make it pretty hard to read any other science fiction. The book was not easy - Simmons always is challenging - but it was one of the most satisfying read I've ever had. All I can do now is wait for his next book and wonder what genre he'll take on this time.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Simply the best conclusion to a great series. Review: Sometimes I cringe when authors write sequel's to an already great storyline. This was not one of those times. Dan Simmons pulls the entire story line and unanswered questions together into a believable story. The range of imagination in this book(and series) is daunting. Mr. Simmons manages to blend philosophy, artificial intelligence, church mentality and the human soul into a great story.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: great Review: it's amazing to find out that the story has not ended jet. when i bought endimion it gave me a stimulation to read hyperion again. and again i lived with the pelgrims for about three weeks. now i have finished the books again and again there is this gag and i hope dan does not leave me waiting for a verry long time before the next book is publisched.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: a panopoly of techno-culture carried to the living end Review: a brilliant and bitter climax(?) to the Hyperion Saga. The fascinating relationship between the future (Techno Core, The Shrike, Rachel) and the terminated present (a grisly truly universal) Catholic Church- sets the tension for the unfolding and refolding of this story. Past events are clarified (The role of the Shrike, and the Cruciforms are finally revealed); favourite characters are revisited in various forms (time travel, story telling, memories); and a viscerally frightening past, entwined with the finality of the created future( so much for "free will") all mesh in a tragic tale of doom. The scope of this story and the hyper- reality of the characters is so compelling. We are called to question the very meaning of life both physically, intellectually and literally. Where else but in "Hyperion's Universe" can love,DNA, religion, techno-terror, more love, and poetry, and the transcendant all mingle in a mind boggling odyssey? read it and weep. I know I did, and will again.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Too much philosophy, not enought story Review: I like the characters, although I found Aenea a little tiresome. I like the story. I didn't mind the inconsistencies. But, there is page after page of philosophical expository that just needed to go. Like several others who reviewed this book, I skipped many pages in an attempt to get to the point.
