Summary: I was really impressed with this book.
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I had never heard of the author before but this book had me going back to see if there were anymore titles available. I was sorry that the book ended and hope to learn more about these "live ships"

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than Farseer Trilogy
Review: I loved the Farseer Trilogy, and I thought it was impossible for anyone (not even Ms. Hobb herself) to outshine that. BUT this... it's the best "first book" I've ever laid hands on! The story itself is intriguing, and the characters have great depth. The humanity shown by the Vivacia is really fascinating (her quickening reminds me of how the Elderlings came alive in the Farseer Trilogy). The growth and development of Wintrow as a boy/priest is also absorbing. This is a series that has potential to make it big, really big. I can't wait for the next book.

Summary: How can anyone write such consistently great books?
Review: Original, unpredictable, exciting, and with faultless characterization to boot, Robin Hobb's newest series starts with a bang. The stories of Kennit and Wintrow are particularly absorbing and I can't wait for the sequel. Although I'm still secretly crossing my fingers in hope of a reappearance of our favourite ex-'Diplomat of the Knife', FitzChivalry Farseer, (last seen moping in a cabin,) I can't wait to read more of the Trader Saga. What more do you want in a novel?

Summary: I hated to put this book down, I'm ready for book two, now!
Review: As always, Robin Hobb writes a fasinating story that compells the reader to read on. Every book he writes he just gets better. This book is well worth the money and the time well spent. You will yourself not wanting to put this tale down. When you do, you'll be wondering what the characters are up to. Bravo, Mr. Hobb! Keep up the excellent work, I look forward to The LiveShip Traders, Volume 2.

Summary: A complex, well-written book.
Review: A fabulous book! The characters are complex, real people. The plot twists and foreshadowing are well done. The world Robin Hobb has created is fascinating. If you like Robert Jordan or enjoyed Hobb's Assassin series you'll enjoy this. Not a sequel to the Assassin series, but set in a different part of the same world.

Summary: Beyond belief
Review: I was unsure if Hobb could live up to her Farseer trilogy, which I thought was one of the best of series of books I have ever read, but I was not disappointed. I realize that this is not much of a review, but I just wanted to give my warmest recommendations for this incredible book.

Summary: Promising start to a new series
Review: I have never read a Robin Hobb book before but I liked the cover art on this one and decided to pick it up and see what it was about. The book jacket made it sound like it would be an adventurous read and it really was.

There are several stories going on in this book: Althea's quest to regain her ship, Kennit's quest to become a king of pirates, Ronica's quest to keep her family together, the serpents' quest for who-knows-what, the mystery of Paragon, the political intrigue surrounding Bingtown and, most compelling of all, Wintrow's story. All of these narratives are interwoven into one big, compelling, un-put-downable, can't-wait-for-the-next-volume, story.

Although it would appear that Althea's is the main story, I found the saga of Wintrow and Wintrow himself the most involving aspect of this book. Ms. Hobb has created in Wintrow a likeable, tortured young man who undergoes a tempering that is wonderful and sometimes painful to watch.

I enjoyed how such unsypat! hetic characters as Kyle and Kennit were not created as simple cardboard villains, instead one is a man who truly thinks he is trying to do right for his family (no matter how obnoxious or wrongheaded he really is) and the other a man who is consumed by ambition and not a little bit of self hate.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to the rest of the series with great anticipation. I also plan to seek out Ms. Hobb's other series of books.

Summary: Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome!!!!!!!!!
Review: I thought it couldn't get any better than the Assassin trilogy. Boy, was I wrong!!! This book is soooo cool!!! It's swashbuckling! It's gorey! There's pirates! There's- heck, you name it, it's in there if it's cool! When the next one comes out I'm getting it, pronto!

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: This is a book that I couldn't put down. In fact, I spent way too much time one night (early morning) and paid the price in sleep deprivation the next day! The characters are all so full and vibrant; it's as if Ms. Hobb didn't have to create these people, they were already there and alive, just waiting for someone to simply tell their story. This is the mark of a fine storyteller. I can't wait for the next installment.

I have not read any other of Ms. Hobb's books before; now I will go out and buy the other series. Thank you for a great book!

Summary: Excellent stuff
Review: A fresh approach, and some new ideas. Women and men with attitude and 3D characters. A good dose of humour and a fair bit of mystery. What more do we need? Makes such a nice change from the fantasy titles nowadays that seem to be written to a formula. I just hate the wait to the next one. Publish soon!
