Summary: Made history become alive.
Review: I enjoyed the story tremendously but like the recent hit movie, Titanic, the Doomsday Book did more than just entertain me. It made me see history in a new way. In stead of just a steam of facts from a textbook it became stories of "real" people that affected "real" lives. The Doomsday Book made the Dark Ages come alive. It was still "Dark", but now it was also a place where people cared, sarificed, loved, etc. I was touched by her story and I feel sure most would be also.

Summary: Terribly dull.
Review: I usually browse the Hugo and Nebula award winners looking for a good read, so I picked up this book anxiously. Boy, was I dissapointed. NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS BOOK. Page after page, there is little action, little conflict, little story. All in all, this is a very dull book. The description of medieval life is interesting, but readers should stay away if they think they are going to read a good sci-fi time traveller novel.

Summary: . my favorite book .
Review: I consider this to be the best book I have ever seen in print. The characters of Connie Willis easily are the most vivid and human that I have ever encountered, and I would recommend this over all other titles.

Summary: Over-rated and slow paced
Review: amazon recommended this book but i found it very slow paced and drawn-out. Nothing innovative here. I would suggest something else.

Summary: The world is full of people who just don't get satire...
Review: ...and Connie Willis is not one of them. Like _To Say Nothing of the Dog_, _Doomsday Book_ manages to be madcap, bitingly satirical, and poignant all at once.

Kudos to Ms. Willis. They don't come any better than this one. But if you're irony-impaired or can't handle a story that does three or four things at once, better go read something less complicated.

Summary: Good, but s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out too far in the middle
Review: I nearly gave up on this book halfway through. I'm glad I didn't; the last third of the book made it all worthwhile.

The story, as a whole, is well written. The author has a way of poking fun at certain character traits that works rather well. Where I ran afoul of her style is with the way that, for most of the middle of the book, the characters are always on the verge of figuring things out.

This sort of drawn-out, pained suspense annoyed me to the point where I wanted to reach into the novel, grab certain characters, and shake them vigorously. It's somewhat frustrating to find that, 200 pages later, a fundamental question that was *almost* answered earlier is still *almost* answered now.

Some people have commented that you could skip about 200 pages in the middle and hardly miss a beat in the plot. They're correct. However, you would also miss out on some clever dialog, and you'd never get to know certain characters in a way that makes the final hundred pages so poignant.

Summary: Very good, not fantastic
Review: I am a lover of fantasy and science fiction, and had high hopes for this book. Mostly, they were realized. I fell in love with Mr. Dunworthy and Mary, though not with Kivrin, whose character seemed rather undeveloped. I have to credit Ms. Willis with having the guts to write a dark novel, where not everyone lives happily ever after. However, I was disappointed by the amount of loose ends left over at the end of this novel. Did Ms. Willis simply become tired of the story after five years of writing? Overall, good book worth reading, but I don't expect that it will become a long-lived classic.

Summary: memorable time travel story
Review: I really enjoyed this book. Although it took me a little while to get into the book l was very interested in both of the two stories intertwined. The tragedy of the black death really affected me, maybe because of the children or just the utter helplessness of it all. The characterisation of Roche was very memorable; what a fantastic character.

Summary: I stayed up all night reading this book!
Review: Even though this book is very sad I think it's worth reading 'cause it's also very good.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Greatest book i've ever read
Review: I read this for a class and it is now my favorite book andMrs. Willis my favorite author. I have to try to get a hard cover copysince i've read my paperback 6 times and it is falling apart. If you like this read "To say nothing of the dog"...it reintroduces some characters such as Mr. Dunworthy and Finch and has a compelling story line.
