Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Kept me glued right till the end. I finished this book in 4 hours I was so enthralled. It is less action packed than some of his others, but no less excellent. It admirably points out the flaws of communism and the will of the people. Awesome.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: I am like many of the viewers here who gave TG 1 star for this book. I become tired of the same thing in each book, for example, Richard being captured and Kahlan off doing her own little thing against richard's wishes. I like most viewers, like to see Richard dominate, destroy, crush, and eliminate all of his enemies in the most violent gruesome way possible, be that by magic or sword. So i was dissapointed when he was captured in this book, but i promised myself i would keep a open mind about the book.I use to not be a TG fan, i just liked his books but didnt rate them as good as the Wheel of Time series. Faith of the Fallen is one of the best works of fiction i have ever read. The emotion and characterization he integrates into this novel makes it shine. I really dont care about themes in novels, i know they are there and acklowledge them, but i really don't give credit to them. The way he portrays the theme of this book, especially towards the ending, is incredibily inspiring. Im not the type of person who watches a movie or reads a book, and all of the sudden im inspired to become a spy or a powerful wizard, ect, ect, ect. But this book seriously inspired me to better my life, and to live each day to the fullest. Enjoy life. This book is a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Terry Goodkind or Ayn Rand? Review: First let me say that I enjoyed the book. However, it is obvious that Mr. Goodkind has been reading Ayn Rand lately. Quick comparison of characters Richard = Howard Roark or Henry Reardon. Kahlan = Dagny Taggart. Narez = Elworth Tooey. Nicci = Dominique Francon. Supporting charcters can find comparable doubles in Ayn Rand writings. The objectivist philosophy was handled straight forward and correctly (though with such bludgeoning force it was hard to miss the point). May I recommend that if you enjoyed this book try The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. The philosophy is handled much better and is more subtly studied.
Rating: Summary: Very Enjoyable Review: For all of you "critics" out their who want to bash this (and other) books because it's a 6th book, or the characters are not developing anymore, or because it may be a little formulaic in parts, this what I have to say....GET OVER IT. Read this book for what it is, and that is a fun fantasy novel. Ok, this book may not be a "masterpiece of modern literature" but what the hell....it's an enjoyable book. That's what counts. The story is fun, and fantastical. Maybe it is a little cliche or formulaic in parts, but who cares when it's enjoyable to read and you care about the characters. I give this only 4 stars, because 5 should be saved for those aforementioned "masterpieces of modern literature" Here's hoping that we don't have to wait another year for the next one (I know, keep wishing).
Rating: Summary: Addiction temporarily sated; now for book seven Review: In the latest installment in the epic Sword of Truth saga, Terry Goodkind delivers a taut, exciting novel that is a more than worthy addition to the series. The first part of the book is a bit slow and is mostly a pastoral interlude in which Richard, Kahlan, and Cara frolic in the mountains of Westland while Kahlan heals. Goodkind does however spice things up by providing some interesting insights into the mind, motives, and past of Nicci. The story picks up when Nicci forces Richard to travel with her to the heart of the Old World. Goodkind takes this opportunity to flesh out the Imperial Order, which turns out to be a greyish, plodding Stalinist entity. Goodkind is at the top of his form as he portrays a defiant Richard rising above his grim circumstances not through magic but simply through sheer force of character. Richard brings light into the stale darkness of the Imperial Order simply by being himself. While all this is going on, Kahlan - in full Warrior Goddess mode- leads the D'Haran Empire against the invading Order. This makes for some of the best chapters in the novel, full of pulse-pounding action, daring strategems, desperate couragen and- dare I say it- shocking betrayal. Goodkind does an excellent job skteching the daily life of an outnumbered army determined to hold fast come hell or high water. There are a few minor flaws in the novel. The writing is sometimes awkward and unwieldy in places, as it has been throughout the series, but this is a small problem, and easily forgivable :) All in all, this is a superior novel, with well-defined plotlines, and genuine characters you can't help but feel for. Faith of the Fallen fully deserves best-seller status, and I cannot recommend it enough. The best in the series since Blood of the Fold, and one of the best fantasy novels I have come across in some time.
Rating: Summary: Spectacularly Suspenseful Review: Faith of the Fallen is spectacular and I literally could not put it down. I read nearly the last two thirds of the book in one setting because I just could not stop, even at three o'clock in the morning. After looking at the cover and reading the marvelous foreshadowing of events written by the author, it is pretty clear what is going to happen. However, the events leading up are written so well, it was just impossible to stop reading. This is by far the best book of the series. Even though the end has a fantastical conclusion, it leaves me wanting to read more to know what happens next.
Rating: Summary: Hail to the new Piers Anthony Review: Faith of the Fallen has to have been Goodkind's worst book. I have been a fan since the first one, although I was disappointed in the last one, and bought this one eagerly. A waste of trees and my time is all I can say for this book. Let me see, how can you describe what he is talking about other than to see him describe his idea of communism? How many times are we going to go through the same "Richard is captured and lives as a slave, only to charm everyone around him including his captor"? On top of it all, he takes 539 pages to show everyone what he already knew? Piers Anthony died a cold death because of how he ruined his series. Goodkind is on his way to following that fate. I just wish 1) I had my money back, and 2) I had my time back. I could have been playing a Squaresoft videogame - they have more imagination than this.
Rating: Summary: Intellectual Adventure Review: This book is essentially an indictment of socialism and other poltical philosophies that place equality over individual liberty. It seems as if Mr. Goodkind read some F.A. Hayek books and decided to weave The Road to Serfdom into The Sword of Truth saga. It's almost an Orwellian fable on par with Animal Farm, but with entertainment placed on a higher priority. There aint nothing wrong with that. Anyone who knows the history of WWII well can tell you the parallels Star Wars has with the battle against Hitler. Dune has slightly veiled allusions to islam, oil, and the arab revolt. Basically, Goodkind has kind of wandered about in the past few books without any structure. In Faith of the Fallen he has taken the story to a new level. I can't wait to see where he takes it in the next book.
Rating: Summary: A compilation masterpiece Review: Unlike the other five books which slowly but inevitably built up a world of numerous factions, powers, and people, "Faith of the Fallen" takes a slightly different approach by approaching a rest stop in the nonstop action of the previous couple. After having just finished two books in a row (Book 4 and Book 5) that have greatly expanded the world of Richard and Kahlan at a cost of focus on the main characters, Goodkind reasserts Richard and Kahlan's role as the protagonists of the book. He returns to the original book's comfortable and directed telling of the main event without diverting on such a multitude of side stories that the main plotline gets obscured. Everything comes together in this book. Just the right amount of characterization, thrilling chapter enders, and action combine to offer a satisfying successor to the previous five. Lastly, unlike the deeply unsatisfying "Soul of the Fire," this book has an ending that is paced, careful and stable, offering closure of a limited sort for having finished such an engaging book without the tantalizing prequel of another in the works. The only problem that resulted from finishing this book is "WHERE'S THE NEXT ONE???"
Rating: Summary: May the Fallen rise again Review: Well i have to say that Goodkind has made another excellent feature. This book is a wonderfull look at the love 2 people have for each other and the cause that they belive in. A look at the struggle of good and evil and the horrors that they bring. If you are a fan of this series or are just looking to get into a great series of books definetly pick up this book and the ones before it.
