Rating: Summary: I love his writing Review: Just had to say it. I remember back when Wizard's First Rule came out. Terry was on BIX (an old chat room place in 1994 or 95 before the internet hit it big) and marketed his novel by chatting about it.I identify so much with his characters and enjoy his stories.
Rating: Summary: He does it again... Review: I tend to disagree with the few reviews I have seen which place the same state on Goodking as with Jordan. Though I have yet to get as far as book 9 with The Wheel of Time...I have heard from many sources it is declining BADLY. This is not the case with Faith of the Fallen. I think the book is just as good as all the rest, which were the BEST. This series has become my favorite, and I am anxiously awaiting more should it come. I suggest this series as a read to anyone, even non-fantasy reading people. Excellent!
Rating: Summary: Imagination in its finest Review: The Sword of Truth series has brought up the fantasy world into higher levels regarding the plot and its complexity. I enjoyed this series immensely and couldn't put any of the books of this series down while reading them. Those who appreciate fantasy will be delighted with this wonderful series. Terry Goodkind has certainly proven that he's THE (!!) Master of fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Completely redeems the series Review: To be honest, I was extremely disappointed by the ending of Soul of the Fire. It seemed as if Richard and Kahlan were giving up, and the story didn't seem to be complete. Faith of the Fallen turned my disappointment into elation. It not only stands as a great work by itself, it also turns the end of Soul of the Fire into something brilliant. If you are a follower of this series, please don't let Soul of the Fire make you give up. If you aren't a follower of the series, read it, just so you can experience this book.
Rating: Summary: Not a fan of FOF Review: I understand there is no way any one man or woman can write a book that everyone can like, but they can write a style that will attract people. I was very interested in Goodkind's 1st 3 books of the Sword of Truth series. He wrote in a style that I very much enjoy and he brought in some very interesting characters. It was a new world to me from what I had been reading. He was building it great through the 1st 3 books. Then he turned stagnant. I was really disappointed with the way be spent almost the entire 4th book to build the Anderith culture up along with a few characters just to kill them in the end. Sorry for those who haven't read the book. As far as FOF goes he went and changed his style, which is what I was reading the series for. He got so preachy when I was expecting wizard duels and for just a few weeks I'd like to see Zedd sit down with Richard and train him. And I only speak for myself but I wish he would quit bringing characters and other various items and magical things just for the story and them never mentioning them again. ie. The cloak of invisiblilty, Brogan and Lunetta, The Chimes, and Nadine. I will 100% retract this review when and if Terry will write a few more books and and tie up his many loose ends. I just want him to go back to the style that I came to like in the 1st few books. Email me with your thoughts D72polara@yahoo.com
Rating: Summary: FOF is good if you like tragedy Review: Bottom line: Terry Goodkind lost his edge after Stone of Tears. Sure his stories kept up, but they were nothing like the first two. Instead, Kahlan and Richard are perpetually apart, only put together long enough to be sent away from each other once more. In FOF it happens again. Kahlan has to get better from being beaten to a bloody pulp and Richard doesn't get to use any magic. There's a whole lot of death that really shouldn't have happened and a lot more misery. Still there are amazing fight scenes, good wizard stuff (from Zedd and Warren) and theres even a promise of Nathan but don't get your hopes up. No Shota either, or any mention of the Mud People. Goodkind removes any interesting characters that might have added light to an otherwise dark, depressing, and very very sad book. On a lighter note, it gives you good insight on what happens when Communism goes all wrong.. but don't take my word for it... Read it anyway, it proves to satisy, but not satiate.
Rating: Summary: High quality fantasy! Review: Okay, I admit that I groaned when I read the inside sleave of 'Faith if the Fallen.' Another Sword of Truth book where Richard is seperated from Kahlan? True, the series is starting to get old. Yes, the plots are getting a bit formulaic. Granted, no new characters are being introduced. However, this book is beutifully crafted, and I found it to be an utterly inspirational tale! Goodkind's characters are really great- they are complex, which cannot be said of many other fantasy characters. Maybe they are easily seperated between good and evil, but like ordinary people, they are unsure of themselves and are not easily categorized. Putting Richard in a different setting was a great idea, and its neat to be able to see hoe he reacts down south. Some of the description in this book is really moving, especially that of Richard's carvings. Goodkind must know something of stonework, because he vividly describes the process that Richard goes through and the results. The ending was masterfully handled (even if it was a tad predictable), and was a great cap on the story. I just hope Goodkind wraps up this series soon so he can use his talents for creating new worlds and characters!
Rating: Summary: It's different, but good Review: Yeah, Goodkind's series is getting long, but this book is different than the rest. All of the other books in this series focus on the use of magic. This book focuses on the human spirit and its strength. Initially I thought the book was slow moving because no crisis was immediately brewing. Before I knew it though, I was totally absorbed in the humanity of the story Goodkind was presenting. I give this book and all his other books 5 stars, just because they are as politically motivated as they are fantastical.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe people didn't like this book! Review: Ok first of all this was by far the best book in the series. The previous book, Soul of Fire, admitidly was pretty bad. I too thought he was turning into Jordan and basically taking 1000 pages to say nothing and not advance the plot. But this book changed all that. Not only was it the great writing style we are used to seeing from Goodkind, it was DIFFERENT! How can anyone say this is the same ol' same ol'. Without giving anything away, this book seriously altered everything that was happening in Rahl-land. If the next book is anything like this one as far as writing style, plot development, and uniqueness, I will be buying it on day one!
Rating: Summary: I've already read the Fountainhead Review: I enjoyed this book more than the previous couple, but I am getting a bit tired of the preachiness of it all. I mostly agree with Mr Goodkind's sentiments (Black and White though he portrays it), but I have read it all before ala Ayn Rand's Fountainhead. We still have a pretty good series going on, but I am hoping for a resolution pretty soon. Or at least a draw back from proselityzing mode.
