Rating: Summary: Ok Despite flaws Review: I have read the entire SOT series about 7 times straight through (I know, I need to get a life) and will always love the characters, stories and settings in them. Number four, however, has some significant problems that will keep it from ever reaching the pinnacle of my readings thus far, Stone of Tears. Chief among them is the bizzare sexual violence that is present throughout the book. Sex is fine in any book, fantasy more than some, but Goodkind has managed to turn off even myself, as I was forced to skip at least 3 chapters in disgust. Too much spice spoils the soup (or something to that effect).
And what about Zedd? He is not nearly present enough in this installment. Everyone has to love Zedd, but Terry has fosaken this to give us a concentrated dose of The Seeker.
And Finally, some... familiar plot situations. Kahlan and Richard torn apart and re-united, Brother betrays Richard, Darken Rahl makes life difficult for Richard, ect. HOW ABOUT SOME NEW STUFF?!?!
Personally, just read the first three again and hope number 5 comes out like the bombshell we all know Goodkind can write.
Rating: Summary: A very enjoyable book Review: I bought TOTW a while back, in hardback of course, as I could not stand to wait for a paperback version to find out what happened to Richard and Kahlan. I love the series, and I read a whole lot of fantasy. I think Goodkind's characters are very human, and througout the books I have come to love them as friends. I cried when Raina died and I laughed out loud at Zedd and Ann's "madness". One of the things that bothered me some is the sexual violence, before you yell at me, yes, I understand the use of it, I just think it needen't be described in such detail. I also think it's a bit sad that every time a family member of Richard turns up, it has to be a psycho. I think Drefan mentioned a sister as well, will she turn up in the fifth volume wreaking havoc? Those are the reasons for me giving the book an 8. Otherwise, I loved the book, and I love the way we hear about all the different characters, Nathan, Verna, Ann etc. I'm eagerly awaiting the fifth book, and I do recommend the Sword of Truth-series to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Incredible!!!!!! Review: Goodkind is one of the two or three greatest fantasy authors today. Even though he has not written many books. The quality in unreal. I have read and reread all the books in this series 5+ times. Temple of the Winds is my favorite behind Wizards First Rule.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Great Story! Can't wait for the next one. Review: Beware - if you can't handle sex plots in a book, or are very young (or a religious fanatic) don't get it. Of course the other 99.5% of us can get it and be very pleased. :)
Rating: Summary: Why so much change in the cassette reading? Review: (Applies to the cassette, not the book) What in the world is going on here? After 80 BLISSFUL hours of listening to the first two books on cassette while going to work, the world changed. There was no unabridged copy of the Blood of the Fold, so I had to find time to read it. Then I got ready for 30 more hours of pleasure listening to another Dick Hill interpretation of Book 4. To my UNPLEASANT surprise, Mr. Hill has changed all the pronuciations of the characters, towns, mountain ranges, you name it. This is extremely distracting. SHAME on whoever had this idea!!!! The worst is the new pronunciation of Kahlan. I'm certainly glad there is only one pronunciation of Richard, or that would probably have changed too.
Rating: Summary: Ranking right up there with Jordan, Feist, and Brooks! Review: I will have to admit, when I get into an author, I really get into it.. And Terry Goodkind is no exception. A recommended read to me from a dear friend, this story holds everything in mind for the classic fantasy genre, as well as putting in some of Goodkind's personal flare. One can't help but keep on reading, trying to find out just what the Seeker will come up with next. Filled with believable and complex characters, as well as a painfully good storyline, Goodkind delivers with all of the mastery of any of his predecessors. Well done!
Rating: Summary: not what I was hoping for Review: I picked up Wizard's First Rule in an airport bookstore a few years ago, looking for light reading for the plane, but I was totally riveted for 3 days, missing a lot of sleep to finish the book. Stone of Truth was the same way. Blood of the Fold wasn't all I hoped it would be, and I kept saying "This one will be better" while I waited for the fourth to appear. Sadly, that didn't happen. Like many of other reader-reviewers, I am impatient with Goodkind's constant reliance upon sexual brutality as a plot device. Sex does have a place in the fantasy novel, but we don't need lots of it to make us buy more books, do we? Goodkind's main characters are well-rounded and lovable, though he doesn't seem to be able to handle Kahlan very well in this installment, portraying her almost exclusively as the jealous lover when she has so much more potential for depth. (Okay, if I were engaged to Richard and went through half of that, I might be a little obsessive, too.) Drefan is also a little flat and soap-opera-ish. I'm going to keep reading this series, and maybe I'll like the book better the second time, after all my friends have finished borrowing it!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: Other than Tolkien, Terry Goodkind is the only author to stir my blood the way he has with The Temple Of Winds and all the other books in the series.Took me two days to read it and when I was finished I went straight to the front and read it again.Brilliant!
Rating: Summary: Cool! Review: I love all of Goodkinds books. He has got something really good here. For those who want to know when his next book comes out, let me tell you this. I heard that TOTW does not come out in paper back until October. If I am wrong or you know more e-mail me please.
Rating: Summary: Great fantasy! Review: Terry Goodkind's novel weaves a picture of a mysterious world of wizardry and magic, without using the normal fantasy races --elves, dwarfs, exc--. The unique power of the Confessors in fascinating. This novel and series has a new twist on fantasy!
