Rating: Summary: Illuminatus Trilogy - the most important book since Ulysses Review: RAW and Shea are masters of taking all the little things we take for granted every day, and showing us how insidious and controlling they can be. This book is witty, intelligent, and well crafted. The constant shifts in time and perspective keep the reader focused hard on the text, making them think about what they're reading, rather than just absorbing it. A very rewarding read.
Rating: Summary: RAW is a genius Review: Robert Anton Wilson has had a huge inspiration on my life. Masks of the Illuminati and Schrodinger's Cat are also very awesome books. I agree with everything dhyde@infinex.com[4/<23>!] and the two people under him said. Hail Eris!
Rating: Summary: It makes you think. Review: This is one of those rare books that (for me, at least) invoked greater thought and creativity regarding the rest of the world, as I was reading the book. Even now, more than a year after the second time I read it (which was two years after the first), I find passages and concepts from the book springing to mind during my "normal" life. It is truly inspiring, in ways that few other authors have even tried to inspire.
Rating: Summary: FNORD Review: This book is a great yardstick. It doesn't say anything but helps you flush out what you believe. It is total BS, but it's all true. I like the people who like this book, I don't like the people who don't. It's that complicated. It is the 20th century version of Jefferson's enligtenment, Plato's light outside the cave. It's for people who understand why the Simpson's is funny. The most important thing for readers of this book to do is find each other, remember we're less than 5% of the population. It doesn't matter if you read this book or not. It's not a way into our world, but a secret handshake for those already there. See you at the crash Worship shows, see you smirking on the bus, see you at the revolution. ALL HAIL DISCORDIA
Rating: Summary: This book made me who I am today. Review: Although it is not the most masterfully written book of all time, this book has the ability to alter your perception of the universe in startling ways. And I think that's the point. Through the description of a supposed conspiracy, Shea and Wilson point out that we believe what we see, and we see what we choose. They demonstrate this to us by actually causing it to happen in the reader... art in the highest sense of the word!
Rating: Summary: One helluva read!!! Review: I first ran into this gem of a trilogy back in the 70's, and talk about conspiracy theory run rampant!!! Wilson and Shea take the reader on a *WILD* ride through conspiracy after conspiracy, layering such diverse ideas as Atlantis, John Dillinger, the Illuminatus conspiracy, and H.P. Lovecraft, with a dash of sex, violence, romance thrown in! This is one trilogy that will leave you wondering what the HECK is going on in this loony world we live in??? BE WARNED - this book is NOT, repeat, NOT to be taken seriously... ...or is it???
Rating: Summary: fnord Review: I give it a nine due only to the fact that you must be either mentally unstable,chemical- laden, or have read the Principia Discordia to understand it. As for quality of writing, it's mediocre, but the sheer volume of odd ideas and bizarre events makes up for it. The best thing about R.A.W.'s books is the mix (I'm hoping) of fact and fantasy.
Rating: Summary: A good book... sort of. Review: Hello. I like this book, overall. It's very convincing, and always leaves you wondering "No, that's not trueÉ is it?" Of course, not a good book for a 12 year old Roman CatholicÉ which is what I am. "Damn, that's kinkyÉ do people really do that?" was a thought that ran through my mind frequently. Overall, a really cool book. Oh, one other thingÉ the plot is *extermely* hard to follow. If you're the kind of person who gets easily distracted, or reads in front of the television, or lose your place easily, it'll take you a few reads to figure it out.
Rating: Summary: the x-files meets the outerlimits Review: IF you like consipercy books, with a demented sence of humor this is it. It covers much of history, and make sthe freemasons look like a poostman in the federal buracrecy. IF you do not mind some lewd scenes, this is great. the aurthers poke fun of evreything from JFk to themselfs. take your time reading to cath the nuances and the constant change of point of few. not for those easly offened. but great for those that can laugh at themelves
Rating: Summary: An unusual and entertaining book Review: I found this book very entertaining to read, but I have a few minuses to point out: it was a bit drawn-out and tedious sometimes, and changes between the different time-periods could have been handled better. Having said that, though, the authors seem to have done a lot of background research, and create a conspiratorial web to great effect. It is interesting to see how this secret organization, in modern times known as the Illuminati, has moved down through the ages and influenced politics and society. When you read the book you know that a lot is fact, a lot is the imagination of the authors, but pondering where the line goes is perhaps the most intriguing thing about the book, and can really give you "the chills". Read it - you won't be disappointed!!
