Summary: Problem with book #7 on CD format...UPDATE!!
Review: I sent an e-mail to Tyndale House, (corrections@tyndale.com) and found out that there was in fact a problem with book #7 "The Indwelling" on 3 CD (abridged) format, but that it has since been corrected. The snail-mail letter I received, (dated 10/04/2001) from Tyndale, also said that there were STILL some copies of this one abridged book on CD, that were recorded using only 1 track, (like the one I had) out there in stores, so if you purchase one like that, RETURN IT TO THE STORE FOR A REFUND!!
I now have this particular abridged book on 3 CD format, which was made AFTER the track problem was discovered and corrected on later CD's. My new one is OK. The snail mail letter I received was from Jan Stob, Acquisitions Editor/General Fiction - at Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., and gave me her e-mail address as Jan_Stob@Tyndale.com if I (or you) need to contact her with any additional problems. I hope this information is helpful to anyone else out there that may have experienced this same problem.

Summary: Problem with CD Version of book #7
Review: I have all 8 of the abridged versions of the Left Behind Series, on 3 CD format. There is not a problem with volume #'s 1,2,3,4,5,6,& 8. - but, volume #7 will not change tracks. I tried all three of the CD's in 3 different CD players, and it did the same in all three. I was pretty far along into the 1st CD, when I decided I wanted to go back and re-listen to the track that was playing, and when I went to start that one track over again...the CD started all over again from the very beginning!! As a matter of fact, I hadn't noticed it at first, but all three of the CD's said "track 1" all the way through each one. This was very frustrating, but I lived through it, and just had to listen extremely closely, as not to miss anything. I took this one volume back to the Christian book store where I purchased it, and the owner opened a brand new one; we tried it on his CD player there at the store, and it did the very same thing. Has anyone else experienced this problem with this one book on CD??

This whole "Left Behind Series" is a MUST HAVE...regardless of the format you choose. It is addictive, and I can hardly wait for volume #9 - "Desecration" - to be released. I've already pre-ordered!! This is a wonderful way to enjoy this series, especially by anyone who works out of their vehicle, as I do. I do not have time to read, and really do not like to read, anyway.

Summary: Could have been better written
Review: I wish the authors had developed the characters more completely. I found myself becoming bored with this latest book, and not caring whether I read the next one. It has a good message that all of us can benefit from, so has value. . . even though it isn't well written. What I regret most is that the authors haven't made the characters in the book into "complete" people, leaving us to doubt whether we care whether the beautiful Chloe or stoic Rayford survive the next battle.

Summary: Terrible!
Review: Maybe the authors are "channeling" these manuscripts from a "higher source?" Who knows? But it's certainly getting to be like a broken record: same old - same old! If you want to drown yourself in BS then buy the book. If you want real knowledge, seek out the non-fiction books out on the market regarding the end-times scenario - and the "truth" will knock your socks off! Amen!

Summary: A bit slow, so-so payoff in the end.
Review: While book 6, Assassins, led to a climactic ending whereas Nicolae suffers a fatal blow to the head and many other events were set in motion, I expected much more out of The Indwelling.

Much of the cast stays the same with some second string characters meeting their demise. However, the introduction of a few new characters keeps the overall story fresh and moving along and keep this very long series entertaining.

My biggest disappointment with this installment was the lack of overall action. After a great cliffhanger in number 6, I expected this really to pick up after we have reached the midpoint in the series. Not really. Though I understand this is fiction based on fact, and I truly believe this book is doctrinally sound, I wanted this to be a real page turner.

It was not until the end where the indwelling of the antichrist actually takes place, and while dark, I wanted something much more ominous. The events described are indeed scary, but with only pages left before this episode ended, I felt like there was something missing.

There is some character development of Rayford Steele here as he comes to grips with his internal struggle and faith. Also there is a search for a new safe house along with the engineered deaths and cover-ups of some believers by the Global Peacekeeping Forces.

Summary: The Second Best
Review: This is a scary, dark book about the half-point of the tribulation when the devil enters the Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia. It kept me on the edge of my seat like all the other Left Behind books. This is arguably one of the best ones.

Summary: A fantastic series!
Review: I have read each book in this series and I can't wait for the next one to come out. The books really get you thinking about what the "end times" might be like. Another reason that I like this series is because they are well written and very suspenseful - I can't put them down once I start them! I found myself worried about and praying for these people like they were real and the events were current! I wasn't really interested in reading this series, although several people had recommended it to me, but I am so glad I finally picked the first one up. I've never really read any Christian books (other than the Bible), but these books have lead me to want to try other Christian authors and titles. I never thought that they would hold my attention - and I love to read.

Summary: Not up to standards of earlier books in series
Review: Authors LaHaye and Jenkins seem to have lost their way a bit in the 7th book in the Left Behind series. Instead of proceeding where #6 left off, they recap some of the events from other viewpoints and proceed only very, very slowly to the actual Indwelling itself. While there are substantial events in this chapter of the series, overall there is a high degree of filler and fluff, much moreso than the first six tightly-written books. At the pace set in The Indwelling, LaHaye/Jenkins will not reach the end of the Great Tribulation until Book 666. And that would be a shame.
