Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Enthralling and mysterious - definitely awakens your senses!
Review: The Witching Hour enlivens your senses and awakens your curiousity for the obscure. You realize that often in older families there is more than meets the eye.

Although the novel seem rather long at first glance, the journey you embark upon once the first page is opened, is one which you cannot pull yourself away from until you have reached its final pages.

Anne Rice's The Witching Hour puts its readers in a trance. You actually picture yourself as one of the Mayfair Witches, and imagine interacting with Lasher.

Its mystery hypnotizes - definitely a "must read" for all Anne Rice fans and newcomers alike!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Powerful and Exciting. One of the few good gothic novels.
Review: Though I am normally not interested in gothic novels, Anne Rice seems to change my tastes with each novel. She recovers well from the sparse, boring, and unmoving world of "The Mummy" with this feast for the senses. Like "The Tale of the Body Thief" and "Cry to Heaven," this ranks as one of her best novels ever. Do not judge this book by its length. There is nothing boring here, whether it is the entire history of the Mayfair clan, or Rowan Mayfair's mortal struggle with the daemon Lasher, this novel maintains a fast pace and deep insight throughout. Definitely one of my favorite modern-day novels

Summary: Another dark spell falls upon the reader.
Review: Anne Rice does it again! We are introduced to more of the dark residents of New Orleans, this time being drawn into a family of southern witches. Rice's background makes every page believable as we fall down the spiral with Rowan Mayfair and fall under Lasher's spell of beauty and tragic promises. One of Rice's best and darkest novels. It unfolds on the reader and envelops you until you are caught in the world of the Mayfairs

Summary: Fantastic reading!
Review: I think this is one of Anne Rice's best novels. It is a fast paced, dynamic book. I couldn't put it down. This is such a believable story that it is scary. It must have taken her years to do all the research! Don't miss this one.

Summary: I'm still tingling..
Review: I've quite methodically decided that this IS the best book, themost engrossing book, that I have ever read. If you love epic ghoststories and aren't afraid of Anne Rice's sensuous nature, the Witching Hour is one voyeuristic turn on after another.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fascinating book--a must read.
Review: Anne Rice draws us deep into a New Orleans subculture consisting of one large, tangled family. The Mayfair Witches will capture your attention and draw you into the web of their life. If you like the occult, dark novels, and ghost stories, by all means pick up a copy of this book. It's the campfire horror tale for adults

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Long but fascinating.
Review: This book was very absorbing throughout, a little too graphic but the story is great and the others in the series are just as good. Highly recommended!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A long and terrifying journey into the Darkside!!!
Review: The Witching Hours by Anne Rice draws her readers into the dark and convoluting history of an old and mysterious family in New Orleans. 300 years of tears and blood and happiness from the struggle against an evil and sinister being called the Lasher. A must read for Anne Rice fans.

Summary: This bookis what made me a huge Anne Rice fan!
Review: To be honest, I can't stand the Vampire Chronicles, and I'm glad I did not judge Anne Rice based only on those. Because the Mayfair Witch trilogy are 3 of the best books I've ever read. I highly recommend you all read the Witching Hour, Lasher, & Taltos! Oooh I still have shivers just thinking about these books. I also highly recommend Servant of the Bones - my absolutele most favorite stand-alone Anne Rice book. Happy reading!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very intriguing read, a page turner....
Review: Like another reviewer, this was my second Anne Rice book, with the first being "Interview With The Vampire". So, not having read her extensively, I must say I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

I was very drawn into the story and never wanted to stop reading, with the exception of the middle part of the history portion on the Mayfair Witches. I found this section became quite tedious after a while, as well as repetitive. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But, after the history portion the story picks up again.

Another reason for not giving it 5 stars was the absence of a family tree in the book, which I believe another reviewer had mentioned. There are so many Mayfairs and so much in-breeding that it became confusing, especially later on in the novel, when the names are mentioned again and I had at that point forgotten who was related to who. Maybe it wouldn't have been so confusing if I had read it relatively fast, for I had read it over the span of a few months, possibly adding to the confusion.

I don't necessarily agree with other reviewers who say this book had a non-ending. True, the end is an obvious lead to the next book, "Lasher". But, once the climax of the story hit, it was quite clear the goal of the book had been achieved.

I really enjoyed experiencing this book. I love the lush writing of Anne Rice and would recommend this to anyone.
