Summary: Not what I expected
Review: I'm not entirely sure what I expected from Sea of Swords, but what I got was definitly unexpected. That's not to say it was bad, I liked the book. It's a nice ending to the Paths of Darkness series because it does tie up loose ends, including some from previous series.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not Salvatore's best work
Review: This book is worth reading but nowhere near the quality of Salvatore's prior work. The plot had a few twists beyond Drizzt and friends kill a bunch of stuff but isn't particularly great. The focus of this book was development of the Wulfgar character but he comes off as whiney and more than a bit of an ass. He makes some life mistakes that mirror issues real men face (a great opportunity to let the reader identify with this character) but his resolution to his problems are political correct foolishness to the max. I feel he has ruined this particular character forever. Also, his portrayel of the relationship between Drizzt and Cattie-Brie is weak and immature. He can do better....alot better

Summary: Sea of Swords- Exellent
Review: I first heard about the author named R.A. Salvatore through one of my friends. We were going to colorado for camp. Through the drive I found out that the book he was reading was called Sea of Swords and by R.A. Salvatore, it seemed kinda good, so I started reading it. Soon I was fighting him off the book (literaly) so I could read it. By the time the unfortunate end of the great book came, the only word that could describe Sea of Swords was EXELLENT!

Summary: Revelations
Review: This book can be summed up in one word WOW. The past comes back again to haunt our favorite rouge dark elf. Drizzit must face his past, and an assailant that will stop at nothing short of his death, and is willing to die to accomplish the deed, makes Artemis Entreri look like a bumbler.

Summary: How does he do it.
Review: RA Salvatore has done it once again with this novel of the heroic Drow Ranger Drizzt DuOrden and the heroes of the hall.
Action, Adventure, love, and fatasy, need i say more

Summary: Why doesn't it just end?
Review: Well, judging from my title, I suppose you're guessing that I have some bad things to say about this book. Really, I don't. I just wonder, why can't R.A. Salvatore get a few new characters? Why can't he just do something like The Cleric Quintete again? It seems to go on forever.

This book, as I expected was quite good. Certainly better than The Spine of the World, and also Legacy of the Drow. I suppose that I really just bought what I expected: another Drizzt Do'Urden book. I've now read the whole anthology so far, and I can say that this is much the same quality of writing found in The Icewind Dale Trilogy. The difference now, is I'm beginning to agree with many others, and I say it's getting old.

Excellent book, to be sure, but really, I am tired of these scimitar spinning, action filled books. Well, I have nothing against the action, but I believe that the characters are over-used. Before I had read the previous books, I would say that this is exelent for a light read, but now I say that I'm tired of it. That's all that takes away the fifth star. If Salvatore were to bring in new characters and change the setting, then I would surely enjoy it, if the quality of writing stays the same.

Other than that, I surely recommend this book to anyone who isn't tired of Drizzt Do'Urdan. Then again, if you are tired of it, read it anyway, you're almost there.

Summary: Fighting with Drizzt - fun as always
Review: I'll agree with some of the previous reviewers: This one was a fun read, but not RAS' best (or second or third or fourth best...).

The last battle was as great as the final battles of all of his books are, and the character development and pacing of the story were very strong. But this time the smaller battles throughout the book were too far apart, and somehow not as detailed as usual.

Compared against other books in the genre this one earns five stars, but against the other Drizzt books it's a four-star read. Very fun, but not the author's best work.

Summary: My First Encounter With Salvatore
Review: I was bored and browsing through the fantasy section at a local Vroman's bookstore...

My interests prior included only two authors: Clive Barker and H.P. Lovecraft. I had never really cared for fantasy(in the magical sense), nor have I ever found myself able to finish books when attempting to aquire a taste for it by other authors. When it comes to fantasy, I am a highly, highly skeptical person. Now, with that said, let us get to this book...

I have always loved the computer role playing games of Forgotten Realms. I was a huge enthusiast of Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale(now Icewind Dale 2 as well). As I was browsing the fantasy section, I came across books published by forgotten realms, made a little huff(as to doubt I would be interested), yet still picked up this book. As I was reading the back of the book, the name of Icewind Dale popped out. I was shocked! Without further motivation I purchased this book(Sea of Swords) and went home to attempt reading it. Remember, this was my first fantasy book that I actually showed interest in(even over Tolkien!!!).

I opened the first pages and began reading with a bored feeling. The first 10 pages or so seemed to drag as it built the story up to the time the book takes place. I put this book down and decided to read it a bit later. A week later I was again bored and picked it up. I read quite a few pages, and found myself getting very involved in the story. I started to see Drizzt, Bruenor, Cattie, Wulfgar, etc. I glanced up at the clock on my wall after what seemed like 30 minutes of reading to realize I had been reading the book for 4 hours! I had college in the morning(at 8am) and it was approaching 1am. I kept telling myself "ok, after this page I'll put it down and dogear the page"...then I was saying "Ok, after this chapter is up"...finally I was saying "Once I get to the next section"(The book is divided into 4 parts...roughly 100pgs each. When I finally put the book down, I had read from page 1 to page 265 in one sitting...and it was 4am.

I left school a bit early to get home to see how the heroes in the book would handle whatever situation they were in at that time. I finished the book that night! Immediately, I found myself wanting more of Salvatore's EXCELLENT stories and browsing the selection at Amazon. The Icewind Dale Trilogy collection, which I purchased instantly, has just arrived as of this writing. Once I am done with this review I guarantee that I will read a huge chunk of it(around 1100pgs total in the book).

In conclusion, and for those of you who are unsure or accidently fell upon this title and want further information...This book is a must. I have given up on my other authors and have soley allowed myself the luxury of Salvatore. This author WILL wrap you up in the story, and leave you fiending once the last page of Sea of Swords peels of your sticky finger from anticipation. I was skeptical at first, as you may be, but at least give this book a chance. If you aren't convinced within the first 50 or so pages, then you probably have a bad taste in literature...honestly!

Many other reviewers on this site claim that this book is "Good, but not his best". If this isn't his best, then he must write some excellent other books.

Give it a chance and read it!

Summary: Way too easy
Review: Let's first start by saying that I have thoroughly enjoyed almost all of the books Salvatore has written but it seems lately that the plots start with much intrigue and then they go POOF! the climax just disappears. Salvatore leads you to believe that that the pirate group is potentially very dangerous but when the fighting actually occurs, Drizzt & company mop up the floor with them.

I truly loved the first two series featuring Drizzt and company (have read them about five times) but lately things have just been too easy with no real challenges. Salvatore is definitlely capable of much better story telling than this. I will continue to read but I hope things improve.

Summary: Fast Paced Action
Review: I started reading the Drizzt Saga when my friend loaned me a book for my plane flight and I have bough every single one because I like them so much, but my favorite by far is the Sea Of Swords. I think this has the most action since the war in Mithril Hall against the Drow.
