Rating: Summary: It touched my heart in a way I never thought a book could. Review: 'Magician' had me hooked. I read the new version in a space of two days. It wasn't the magic, or the language or the fantasy, but all of it... the relationship between two childhood best friends who lose each other in a time of need, who fear the other is dead, and who, years later when they have both changed so dramatically and have both experienced so much pain, find each other again. 'Magician' was, to me, a heart touching book, it left me feeling emotionally worn out. Raymond E. Feist has an excellent series here, I have read them all and life seems clearer after having read the last few pages of the last book.
Rating: Summary: GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: THIS BOOK WAS ABSOLUTELY, INDISPUTABLY GREAT. I READ IT AS MUCH AS I COULD. (INCLUDING DOING MY BEST TO READ IN THE DARK!) THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE ONCEIN A LIFETIME MARVEL.I WOULD HAVE PREFFERED IF THE BOOK HAD MOVED AT A FASTER PACE. ALL IN ALL, I RECOMEND IT IF YOU CAN'T GET IT AT THE LIBRARY.
Rating: Summary: Fantasy by numbers Review: I'm nearly through with the author's preferred version of this, with the 15,000 extra words. The jacket quotes Feist saying "the book I would have written had I the talent I had today". Given that this is the book he wrote ten years ago then the talent he has today is the same as the talent he had ten years ago. Which is to say, he's an enthusiastic amateur. All who claim this as their best book ever have a lot of reading to do is all I can say. I can list a score or more of fantasy authors alone better than Feist and thrice as many better fantasy novels. It made me think initially, oh God not another Tolkien counterfeiter ! Then I thought "these characters are so two-dimensional and cliched". Then I thought "these Samurai and Aztecs aren't helping with the fantasy flavour". Basically, Feist seems to have wanted to rewrite his fantasy favourites and at the same time include influences from a myriad different sources and the result is an overspiced and undercooked dish that tastes vaguely familiar but not something you'd care to order again. Five stars ? You must be joking, lucky it got two.
Rating: Summary: Perfect book Review: this book is brilliant i just wish people would get over comparing authors to other authors and pointing out stupid similarities, which are bound to happen.
Rating: Summary: well, it was ok Review: I liked this a lot the first time I read it. Unfortunately it doesn't hold up as well on successive readings. Sadly, anything in the genre inevitably gets compared to Lord of the Rings. LOTR this ain't; while the concept of a "believable" fantasy novel may seem ludicrous, there are situations in Magician that just left me scratching my head, saying, "well, that's a bit far fetched..." Maybe I'm over the whole fantasy-epic thing, but next time I'll just pull out my other well worn novels and read them again.....
Rating: Summary: MAGIC Review: I read the earlier version Magician, as well as all the other books Raymond has written, including those with Janny Wurts. However this book is my first love it has the ability to transport me to the worlds and places that are visited by Pug and days after reading the last sentences, the images and adventure linger in the shadows of reality.Andre Piketh Eindoven The Netherlands
Rating: Summary: Best FANTASY BOOK EVER Review: The character development is phenomenally excellent. The suspense, the drama all draws you into it like a net, making you feel for the characters. They become like old friends. In shorts its a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: A great and sensual book! Especially enjoyed Pug and Tomas. Review: This book is an unbelievably spectacular conglomeration of words into beautiful prose. Every scene has perfect images, it's like you're there when they're eating meat pies and getting drunk on ale, and also you can Pug's horror when he meets the crazy king Rodric and Tomas' internal struggle is commendable. I enjoyed reading about the beatiful women in their lives: Carline and Aglaranna.
Rating: Summary: The Beginning of one Greatest Sagas you will ever read! Review: This book was the one that set my imagination on fire when I first read it. I have read all of Raymond Feist`s works and still find myself thinking back to this book where the whole universe of Midkemia and all its heroes and villains sprang forth from. Anyone that has read any of Feist`s work and liked it should read this book as well as the others to see just how far this incredible story line has come. Feist is by far my favorite fantasy author and I am sure that if you take the time to read his work , He will become yours as well.
Rating: Summary: A great book! One of my favorites. Review: An orphan named Pug is forgot about during the time of the choosing. He is apprenticed to the Magician Kulgan. Pug has troubles while he is studying. Then the Tsurani invade Midkenmia and Pug's studies are put to an end. This is a great book for all you fantasy readers.
