Rating: Summary: Great book, but... Review: I personally loved the book and I'm looking forward to the movie, but my problem with the story (not the writing or even the plot) is that it feels a lot like The Empire Strikes Back; and if fact there are several similarities that I will not mention.

Rating: Summary: Jar-Jar Binks Must Die! Review: As a fan of Space Operas and Star Wars, I'd have to say that George Lucas has made a vast improvement on the story line since the debacle with "The Phantom Menace". R.A. Salvatore's movie-tie in picks up the story 10 years after the events in Menace. Alot has changed. Seperatist are succeeding from the Republic. Senator Padme` Amidala is trying to marshall Chancellor Palpatine and the senate to stop the seperatist. An assassination attempt takes place against the senator, and from there it is only a matter of time before Obi-wan Kenobi and his teenage Padawan Anakin jump into the fray to become her protectors. The story then dives in with Obi-wan trying to figure out who is trying to assassinate Padme' and Anakin dealing with his emotions toward Padme'. The story is puncuated with scenes of action and scenes of a budding romance between Anakin and Padme', which all rollercoaster toward an intense showdown with the dark forces that are at work. What worked with this story? The parring down of Jar-Jar Binks. Jar-Jar was a complete turn off for me and other fans. Lukily Jar-Jar only makes a few appearances in the book, only covering perhaps a few pages in 2 seperate scenes in the story. However, the scenes in question made me wince and only in the last 2/3rds of the story did Jar-Jar contribute anything that was worthwhile to the progress of the story. Actually I could only wonder why he was included in the story line at all, but perhaps a rebellious George Lucas, who can't take no for an answer, stuck him in one last time (I hope)to re-iterate that "Yes, people love him!". George, George, George. Please kill off this character! He really adds nothing to the story. What didn't work? The plot. Don't get me wrong, but the plot to "Attack Of The Clones" is a vast improvement to the plot in "Phantom Menace". Unfortunately I had a number of problems with some plot holes in the story. For example, as Obi-wan was investigating the origin of a dart that was used by an assassin, he discovers that the data about where the dart came from had been wiped from the Jedi library computers. There was no real concern from any of the characters as to who or why this information was erased, and that perhaps the Jedi librarian made backup copies of the data? Never explored to my liking as well as contradictions on how the Jedi behave or how battle scenes were resolved. The battle scenes in the end where very confusing as to who was doing what or what was going on exactly. I, too, had to re-read paragraphs to figure out where characters were and when they appeared on the scene in the final confrontation. As for the Jedi behavior. I found it to be contradictory to the situation that was going on. Amidala's life has been threatened. Yoda and Mace Windu suggest putting Obi-wan and Anakin in as body guards to protect the senator. Well, after the 2nd assassination attempt fails, the 2 jedi split up under the suggestion of Yoda. Anakin to protect Padme' and Obi-wan to investgate who the assassin is. Well, if the Jedi were so keen on protecting Padme', then why put a teenage student in charge of her life? Wouldn't it be better to put another more apt Jedi, perhaps a knight in charge? Doesn't really make sense. All in all, the story is a major improvement over Episode I. I recommend reading the story to wet the appetite for the film, as well as fill in the blank as to character thoughts or deleted scenes.
Rating: Summary: Salvatore sets stage, stumbles in words Review: Attack of the Clones provides everything that is every needed in a story set in the Star Wars universe: sarships, battles, and Jedi. Yet it seems Salvatore had a hard time pulling all the good elements of Star Wars together. Often times Salvatore's descriptions are bland and uninteresting. Also, Salvatore had a bad habit of skipping events or shortchanging many major ones (one at the end involving Padme comes to mind). Despite all the negative, Salvatore does a fabulous job exploring the relationships between characters. The love story that runs predominately through the book gives depth to characters. Also, the relationship between Jango and Boba as father and son is given a surprising amount of depth considering the minor roles the two play as a whole. Star Wars fans definitely should pick this up but people who just read may be disappointed by Salvatore's inability to give strong descriptions to objects and people.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Star Wars books ever Review: When I first decided to buy this book, I was expecting for it to be another boring book, like some of the other Episode 2 books I flipped through in the bookstore. However, I was greatly impressed by R.A. Salvatore's narration of the newest Star Wars movie. He added a new dimension to the characters, and interpreted their thoughts and feelings very well. I can't wait to see the movie after reading this book. But beware, since it is technically a movie storybook, people who don't want any spoilers revealed should not read this book until they see the movie. I am going to summarize the plot, so spoiler free people, DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT! The book/movie starts off on Tatooine, where you learn that Shmi Skywalker, Anakin's mother, has been free for the past five years and is married to Cliegg Lars, a moisture farmer. They have a son, Owen, who is engaged to Beru Whitesun. You see how happy Shmi is with her new life, and also how much she misses Anakin. On Naboo, you learn about Padme's family and her new life as a senator. An assassin attempts to kill her en route to Coruscant, and the Jedi give Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi the assignment to guard her while the Jedi investigate the situation. Obi-Wan tells Anakin to escort Padme back to Naboo, and Anakin quickly falls in love with Padme, at first she resists, but gradually she too begins to fall in love. The problem is, Anakin is a Jedi Padawan and he is forbidden to love anyone. There are a few kisses envolved, and Padme's family enjoys Anakin's company. Meanwhile, Shmi is captured by Tusken Raiders, and Cliegg loses his leg going out to rescue her. Shmi is tortured to the point in which Anakin feels her pain and decides to go to Tatooine to find her. He finds her barely alive, and Anakin's mom dies in his arms. He then goes on a killing rampage, slaughtering all of the Raiders and then going back home. He throws a little temper tantarum in front of Padme, then breaks down sobbing. Obi-Wan, in the meantime, has gone to the planet of Kamino to visit Jango Fett to investigate the attempts on Padme's life. He meets up with Taun We and Lama Su, Kaminoans, who assist Obi-Wan and then help capture him. Anakin and Padme travel to Kamino to try and rescue him, but they too are captured. They are about to be executed, but Mace Windu and Yoda lead an army of Jedi against the clones that Count Dooku (a.k.a. Darth Tyranus) and Nute Gunray (The Nemoidian Chancellor that you see in Episode 1) have been developing. You learn that Boba Fett, who thinks that he is Jango Fett's son, is really a clone. In the end of the book, there is a big lightsaber duel between Count Dooku, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda. Obi-Wan is knocked out early, so Anakin takes up the fight using both his and Obi-Wan's lightsabers. He does a pretty good job until the Count cuts off his arm from the elbow down. This is where Yoda takes over. He weakens the Count until Dooku is finally forced to run away to his ship, where he flies back to Coruscant and tells his master, the mysterious Darth Sidious, that the Clone Wars has begun. The Rebublic prepares for the war. While all this is happening, Anakin and Padme get married in secret on Naboo. That's where the book/movie ends. Overall, I think that it will be a great movie, and I can't wait to see it after reading this book by R.A. Salvatore.
Rating: Summary: More subpar writing, and familiar scenes for gimmicks Review: I've read the original trilogy of Star Wars novels, plus the books for Episodes I & II. The only decent book among them was Star Wars: A New Hope. I need more than a flashy story to give a book a good review. I was often "oooh"-ing at plot points, and wrinkling my nose in disgust at other times, when gimmicks were used to remind us of the original three stories. Here again we a have a scene in a bar or cantina where Obi-Wan cuts off someone's arm. Then there's the Han-and-Leia-esque Anakin and Padme, the latter reluctant to reveal her feelings until the frozen carbonation (or monster fight) is about to begin. Then there's the monster fight itself, reminiscent of Luke and the rancor in the dismal Return of the Jedi. The writing is simple so everyone will be able to understand it. That's nice, but I remember a prequel movie that was simple so kids could get it and it was...well, ordinary. I love the saga of Star Wars, and think Empire was the best movie ever, focused more on acting and character than special effects. I hope Lucas finds that in the movie. The book will tell you what happens in the continuing plot, and that's probably why most people will read it, anyway.
Rating: Summary: Excitement to the last word! Review: Salvatore had me rivetted to the book from the start. I loved the background look he gave us at the characters, particularly Shmi Skywalker. This story has a lot of heart. It really makes you wish that Anankin could avoid becoming Darth Vader, but I guess that's inevitable. Poor Padme!
Rating: Summary: a step in the right direction Review: I have to say right off the bat that I had real doubts about the movie, and that was one of the main reasons of buying this book. That being said, I read this book in one sitting. the story is better then Phantom Menance, more in tune with the orginals then I had hoped. It can be dark and bitter at times but there is humor and some loving moments too. Each of the divergent storylines has it's own momentum, different from the rest, until they all join together for the final battle. R. A. Salvatore, who wrote the Phantom Menace novel too I belive, seems to have, i hope anyway, gotten the feeling of the movie somewhere in this book. his writing style is very easy to understand, and i guess this is as good as a book based on a movie can be... But i have some problems with one of the main storylines. the jedi cannot marry. I really see no problems with this, if we just had the orginal movies to go on... but Lucas has let his vision be taken over, in part, by other writers. Writers that have added on to the vast universe that is Star Wars. I find it galling that Mr. Lucas would just toss out over twenty-five years of stories. There are major problems continuitaly wise if you were ever a fan of the books. I await judgement on the Boba Fett backstory until I see it onscreen. If nothing else, John Willaims has created another wonderful musical score. Go buy the soundtrack, the last was one of the only saving graces of Phantom. I have only this left to say: leave everything you have read about Star Wars at the first page of this book, or you might be disapointed. and ten-to-one, when you go to the theater too.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfull- if you like Star Wars you love this Review: This book is wonderfull. I'm about 8/10ths of the way through the book but I know that I am going to love the ending. In this book we meet Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen (Anakins step-brother and sister-in-law),Jango and Boba Fett. Watto and Jar Jar are back and C-3PO has his new coverings. Shmi is brought by Cliegg Lars who frees her and they get married. If you don't want to know what happens at the end of the book then don't scroll down the article for obvious reasons........ Anakin and Padme get married!!!!!!!!
