Summary: Never should have been written
Review: This book was depressing to read. Rather than create new characters with which to weave new tales like Elaine Cunningham would, Weiss & Hickman decided to destroy all of our old beloved ones. At least if Cunningham screws up a book it doesn't destroy the entire series like this book did.

This book takes place 20 years after the war of the lance ends and of course the world is chaotic. But now an all-powerful daddy-god comes to kick some ass on his sons/daughters for imprisoning him. He unleashes his forces of chaos on Krynn and tries to kill everyone blah blah blah.

The way Krynn's inhabitants fight the forces of chaos reminds me of cheesy vampire flicks where the "rules" are made up seemingly at whim by the author and are different all the time.

A cameo by Raistlin helps but his role in the plot is silly and inconsequential.

It doesn't help that this book leads the DL world into the steamy pile of you-know-what that is the 5th age. When I finished this book I emailed a friend who loves DL too and told him how shocked I was; not simply with the poor quality of the story, but also with its destruction of Krynn as we know it. All in all I'd say that you should borrow this book, read it once simply to be able to read any newer books and not be lost, then give it back and wash your hands.

Summary: Chronicles volume IV?
Review: As the Chronicles Trilogy came to a close in the mid 1980's, readers were delighted with the tales of bravery, companionship, and adversity. A decade after the trilogy ended, Weis and Hickman brought us Chronicles volume IV: Dragons of Summer Flame. I was elated when I learned of the release of this novel. It did not fall short of my expectations. It is a beautiful blend of old and new generations in traditional Weis/Hickman style. This book is a great cap on the Chronicles Trilogy and is a definate five star.

Summary: i think this book is great
Review: its been a while since i read any of the dragonlance books and i have to say that this one was great. i think the characters are interesting and it has a good storyline. it also includes my favorite character, Rastlin. i do however still recomend the death gate cycle over any of the dragonlance books.

Summary: JUST as GOOD as CHRONICLES
Review: Enter Kryn, a world of adventure, heroes, and magic. The war of the lance ended 30 years ago and a lull has given the surviving members a chance to rest, recuperate, and most importantly procreate. But when bad news reaches the Majiere family, the peace abruptly ends and a new cast of heroes, Steel Brightblade, Palin Majiere, and Usha, must overcome their differences and prepare for a great war to come.

Dragons of Summer Flame is not so much a 4th chronicle as it is a stand alone novel. It requires an understanding of Legends and of course Chronicles. The stories of Second Generation are also helpful in understanding the characters that seem to come out of nowhere. We do see all surviving heroes of the lance once again, but the spotlight certainly shifts to the next generation.

This is my favorite book I've read since last finishing Chronicles and I couldn't disagree more with the reviews that say something is missing in this 4th instillation. In fact, I believe Weise and Hickman have matched their former glory PERFECTLY. Finally, a Dragonlance book with the adventure and marvel of a true fantasy epic. To my great surprise, the new characters aren't in anyway simple rehashes of their parents, a fate I dreaded since hearing the second generation books were coming. The novel is very long and juicy; something you can really sink your teeth into every time you sit down to read.

Dragons of Summer Flame is the PERFECT book for anyone who enjoyed Legends and Chronicles years ago and has been looking for that reading high again. Believe me, this book does it.

Summary: Margaret and Tracy do it Again!!!
Review: A lot of people don't like this book because certain characters die, or because the gods leave. Give me a break. The authors know what they are doing, the writing is still great, the plot intriging, and will keep you on the edge of your seat. It kept me up past my bedtime many nights, and if you havent read it yet your missing out on one of the best books in the Dragonlance saga. Get it. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: A Bad End to a Great Series
Review: Once upon a time, there was a great trilogy of books called the Dragonlance Chronicles. They were a bit simplistic, it is true, but they were a great deal of fun to read and the characters were all particularly captivating. In spite of its flaws, I came to love both DL Chronicles and Legends.

Dragons of Summer Flame (DoSF) is *not* a book that compares well to the rest of the Chronicles. Weis and Hickman start killing main characters from previous books in the Dragonlance universe right off the bat and they continue throughout the book, progressing from relatively minor characters to major ones. Nor are they content to stop there, but in the end alter the fundamental fabric of Krynn, turning it into an early edition of Earth.

The Plot is also weak, with a rather flat and predictable villian, with Paladine and Takhsis acting like scared children instead of major gods, with Raistlin brought back for a cameo role when his death was so well done -- it undid all the closure of the end of DL Legends.

I have often wondered at the reasons behind the way DoSF was written, and my conclusion is that Weis and Hickman were impelled by contract obligations to 'usher in the 5th Age' so that TSR could sell a bunch of new products. I believe they resented it and the story they wrote reflected that fact. I simply cannot believe they wrote such a horrid story by accident.

Unless you have a desire to read books about the Fifth Age of Krynn, I do not recommend this book. Stop after Chronicles and Legends. Do yourself a favor and avoid the pain of this book.

Summary: The last great DL book
Review: The chilling logic of this summation of the age of gods really makes this book, but it is not its only admirable quality. This book is a wild, chaotic rollercoaster ride (which is appropriate since the enemy is chaos) which really ties together all the philosophy and events of previous books. While it perhaps doesn't have the heart or pathos of Chronicles and Lengends, it is still a suitable ending and an exciting read.

Summary: They do it again
Review: I have been following the books of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman since the mid-80's. In this book they do it again with superb storytelling. The story is lively and they bring to life the characters and storyline. If you loved the original Dragonlance stories, you'll love this book.

Summary: A Fight Against Chaos Himself
Review: An epic tale of cousins, a child of the Irda and old Tasslehoff Burrfoot. The Irda split the graygem to ensure there safety and release Father Chaos. While the Knights of Takhisiss conquer Ansalon they are forced to join with good and fight the creatures of Chaos. The book ends fith a fight against the Father of all and nothing.

I loved the book especially Tas Because I love KENDER!!! I recommend the book to all dragonlance readers!

Summary: A Great Book For Any Fantasy Fan
Review: This was a great book i couldnt put it down, i even fell down one time walking because i was reading it and walking. There is only one thing i dont like about this book, it is how when a char. (let's say Tas) would say something the author would interupt the dialog and write 3 paragraphs then contine right were she left off so i found myself rereading more then i wanted to, other then that one thing this is prolly one of the best books in the entire series.
