Rating: Summary: Best book and series I've ever read Review: I usually stick to reading horror, and finally gave in to reading Wizards First Rule after weeks of hounding from one of my friends. I was completely suprised by how caught up I got in it. Goodkind draws you in to the story and dosen't let you out. Putting it down is impossible (Sorry I missed psych the other day, Prof.), and waiting to read the next book is tortuous. I found myself begging my friend to finish the second book so that I could read it. Since it is the first fantasy book I've read, I don't know how original Goodkind actually was but I must tell all of you out there who belive that it could be more original to get real. Every book ever written in any genre follows a certain pattern. For those of you who have never read more than one horror, romance, western or war story, I suggest you do some reading. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who wants an awesome book to read.
Rating: Summary: Engaging beginning into a new world. Review: This book is a great treasure for those seeking a This book is a great treasure for those seeking a Tolkien like story. The characters and plot are both deep and encompassing. You can find that you have read for four hours instead of thirty minutes often. It is difficult to put down and when it is done it leaves a warm glow of containment yet you eagerly await the next book.
Rating: Summary: Simply one of the best Review: Ever had a book that you can't put down? Well I did with Wizards First Rule. I lost *three* hours reading this book. Truly one of the few that I could not make myself put down. The pleasure ran from start to finish, where the story did indeed finish. However Terry, managed to continue the story in the next two, without leaving an questions unanswered. Truly a masterpiece - hurry up with the next one!!!!
Rating: Summary: TYPICAL Fantasy? ... Think about it. Review: OF COURSE! This book/series follows a formula, so to speak, of Good vs. Evil; dragons, witches, magic, etc. How could it be in this genre and also be interesting without doing so? As far as copying Jordan's WoT in his plot line (suggested by more than one previous review), I don't agree, except that Goodkind follows the basic Fantasy Formula. Eddings had always been my favorite fantasy author, with Jordan bringing up second. Now, Goodkind is possibly tied for first. (I have yet to read all his books.) Jordan is a somewhat distant third. While being a little predictable in some parts of the story, I found I was much more often caught off guard than I have been with Jordan. The books have REALLY kept me wanting more. There are very few lulls in the story and the lulls are very tolerably short. I certainly couldn't say that for WoT. Overall: Excellent characters, Excellent characterizations, Goodkind knows HOW to tell a story!
Rating: Summary: Great Piece of Writing Review: I agree with the person from Berkly. IF you have read a lot of Fantasy Novels you start seeing many similarities in the books, such as plot (good against evil) and magic. You can't really be original in these catagories. Terry Goodking is a great author a deserves a lot of credit for his writing. It is one of my favorite books, but it is lacking some points. I don't really want to get into it, but anyone who reads a lot can notice the points. Great read and I recomend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! In the same genre as most good fantasies go. Review: Although Goodkind borrows a few ideas from other books, they have time and again proven to be winners. Take Shotas side kick: the old 'sword of truth bearer'. He bears remarkable resemblance to Tolkens Gollum. But that book has become a classic in its own right. I believe the Goodkind has achieved the same with Wizards First Rule. I eagerly await The Temple of the Winds. Good work!
Rating: Summary: The BEST book I ever read! Review: Terry Goodkind's Wizards First Rule was by far the best book I have read. I am currently writing a fantasy novel of my own (hopefully complete it soon) and this book has given me most of my inspiration to write it. Terry Goodkind's use of language and dialouge was truly excellent. He really "brang the book to life" so to speak. The main character Kahlan and Richard are well developed and are characters most of you can probably relate to. Some of the parts in the book are pretty nasty, but you got to take the good with the bad.If any of you havn't read this book READ IT! YOu won't regret it. And if any of you give it a 5 or lower you must have problems in the head because I have read A LOT of these type of books and I can safly say this was the best of them all. In short I agree with that fellow up top THIS BOOK KICKS SOME SERIOUS ASS!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK KICKS ASS PEOPLE!!!! Review: Anybody who gave this book less than an 8 is a total bum with no taste (except fo the neutral guy). This book was addictive form the very beginning. I just couldn't put it down! This book is a totally captivating tale of two people in love with each other who could never be together because of Kahlan's powers as a confessor. For those of you who didn't like the part where she made the guy eat his testicles it was kinda' gross, but hell, the guy and his friends were going to beat her up, rape her, and kill her!! It's called R-E-V-E-N-G-E folks, and no good fantasay book is complete without it (with a few exceptions). Compared to Terry Goodkind most best-selling authors can't write. TERRY GOODKIND IS THE BEST!!!! He's better than Terry Brooks (who isn't that good in the first place), Robert Jordan, and Melanie Rawn put together!! And for those of you who gave this book a 4 or lower you have no taste and you don't deserve to write reviews of this book!! This book will suck you in and keep you there. The story is wonderful, the writing is wonderful, and the characters are lovable. Terry Goodkind brings the book to life. The vivid descriptions (however gross they may be) are needed to bring you into the story and make you feel like you're in the world of the story! Terry Goodkind is one of the few writers who can make you cry when the characters hearts are broken, and make you feel the characters joy and love! THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!!!
Rating: Summary: Anybody who thinks this is bad, is completely stupid! Review: This was such a great book. I have read the first three so far, and this series is on my list of favorites. Yes, I agree the Terry borrowed some of the ideas of WOT, but he was also very original. The whole idea of MordSith is awesome. All Hail Terry Goodkind!
Rating: Summary: Meaningless review, while i download my mail... Review: Firstly, i'm no English lecturer and i can't tell when grammar and structure are awful or brilliant. I have no concept of 'characterization' or plot and dialogue analogy. I suppose i simply go by the 'feel' i get when i finish a novel. Before i even started this novel, my first impression was heavily influence by the vehement attacks on it's originality and incorrigible nature - i was ready for the worst. In fact, I was suprised that i could actually get through the book, based on that first impression. It at least attracted my attention till the last page, and while i don't agree with the hype over it's brilliance, i don't totally agree with attacks on the novel either(neutrality is a great thing). I guess, in the end, this is just another fantasy book to add to the pile of its genre - it will probably be a 'bargain bin' book in the near future (unless it countinues it's respectable sale figures). I was not dancing around and singing it's praise by the end of it, but for those who are in the mood for reading another fantasy, you may as well give it a go. I can't say i'm any better off now, for having read it, and i much prefer other authors - i'm not all keen on the butchery and sadism that goes on in the novel, and to tell the truth, Terry Goodkind looks a little pompous on the inside cover for my taste (but then, that's coming from a person who held off Eye of the World for 3 years, because the cover looked ridiculous). So, have a look at it if you want - libraries are always good for these type of books, and most importantly, don't base your views on the ideas propogated by reviewers...such as myself.
